The "prnd" gears lit up with boxes around them - the "service parking assist brake" came on as well. . . . I could not accelerate at all after the light turned green - had to turn on hazard lights and turn vehicle off and back on - worked fine for 10 minutes or so and then the check engine light came on, it has been on ever since. Called the dealership about this they asked me to bring it in for diagnosing, but hesitant because of all the same kind of stories that I have read on this issue. Going to have to give in though, this is a major safety concern of mine now. . . Have not seen a recall for this even though someone can certainly have a devastating accident, not willing to take that chance. . . Love my vehicle, but now I hate the aggravation that this is causing. . With all the horror stories with the same sort of issue you would think that Jeep would take care of this, I guess that this is why they discontinued the Commander?.
My 8 month pregnant wife was driving home from work and the prnd light all lit up at the same time. The dashboard read "service park assist brake" and the car quit accelerating and the lights turned off. Luckily nobody was driving behind her and she was able to restart the car. If this happens while turning onto the road you could easily be hit from the side or from behind. We had a couple other incidents of loss of acceleration, but both times the car started accelerating again after 5 or 10 seconds. In every instance the prnd on the dashboard light up at the same time.
2007 Jeep Commander failing electronic shift module. This vehicle will shift out of gear at any time without warning. Other symptoms include parking assist failure message on the dash and all gears prnd show active at the same time on the display. I contacted Jeep and warned them about this but they will not initiate a recall until forced to do so by the NHTSA.
I had come to a complete stop and when I accelerrated my vehicle it stalled as I was rounding a corner. My engine light began to flash. The prnd letters on the dash all lit up and the screen read service park assist. I have had this happen mulitple times where all the letters light up and it will not accelerate on the highway. I can usually tell when it's going to happen because it tends to struggle on acceleration. Sometimes it will kick back and then letters light up. Really annoying when it happens 4-5 times a day. Other times it happens as I'm getting on the highway and the other vehicles behind have to brake fast due to stall. Very dangerous!!.
Transmission not shifting, when @ a complete stop position, car lunges forward without any acceleration pedal pressure, while driving all "prndl " lights came on then car would not go over 30 mph even though I am stepping on acceleration pedal, when putting car in drive and stepping on acceleration pedal, engine revs but will not go, check engine light turns on, car completely shuts off while driving. Shuts off while driving @ 65 mph. Engine stalling and cutting off failure and has occurred @ least 5 times. The consequences have been that I could have been in 2 car accidents with 3 year old son in car. I also have spend time off from work due to damages and spent out of pocket expenses on rental cars. I now have a fear of driving. Due to the car lunging I have almost rear ended 10 cars, on 10 different occasions. I have taken car to the dealer several times for repairs with no success. They have updated software, performed pcm reflash, rec throttle body and injector service, replaced esm module, replaced socket.
Firstly, the event that brought this letter about took place on 03/28/2008 at 7:30 pm. The Jeep Commander I own smashed into my house. We began bbq-ing about 6:00 pm. While the food was cooking we sat in my Jeep with the doors open and engine off. (the porch was wet) after the food was done, I took it inside and my 6 year old son dylan stayed outside to play for a few more minutes. Dylan was in the front seat pretending to drive. The keys to the vehicle were inside the house and we live on a secluded piece of land in the country, so I saw no harm in this. However, a few minutes later when I heard a crash and felt my house move, I had second thoughts! at first I didn't actually realize what had happened; I was searching the house for what could have caused such a racket. Then my son came in the house hysterically crying. All he could manage was, the car, the car. At first I thought he meant a toy car and then as I rushed outside to find the cause of his hysteria I discovered my Jeep had crashed into my house. As I was stunned and staring at the unbelievable site before me, my son was still panic-stricken and sobbing. I thought at first that he had taken my keys and started the car, but the car wasn't running and I found my keys neatly on their hook, as always. Dylan couldn't make any functional sentences to explain what happened so I began to investigate. I found the gearshift in reverse, but there were no keys in the car. Since I had retrieved my keys, I backed the car up to its usual position to check out the damage. I continued my investigation and found that even with no key in the ignition and no foot on the brake, the gearshift would easily shift from park to any other gear. So due to this malfunction, dylans innocent pretend driving became real and resulted in a real accident that could have seriously injured him or one of my other children and did real damage the vehicle as well as my house.
