2 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2020

We have been having issues with our Jeep just suddenly turning off. Very dangerous situation specially since we have our kids in the Jeep with us when it happens. We could be driving on the freeway and the Jeep will just shut off and will not show no problem codes. This happens at any speed and no speed. We turn the Jeep on a let it warm up. About 2 minutes later it shuts off. We have to turn it back on. Then we would be driving at speed below 30 mph and turns off. And most dangerously on the freeway when it just turns off and we have to pull over and this is hard specially because the steering wheel is so stiff. Hopefully Jeep/Chrysler can do something about it.

3 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2019

While driving straight in the fast lane on the highway at around 65 mph, my vehicle suddenly shut off with no warning and I noticed that all dashboard warning lights came on. Fortunately, there was a fast-lane shoulder that I was able to steer it on, or I might have been killed by oncoming traffic. Vehicle would not re-start so I disconnected the negative battery cable, waited a few minutes and re-connected it and then the vehicle re-started but ran very rough. I proceeded along the shoulder to try and get off the highway, but the vehicle shut down again. I repeated the same process and it again re-started and I managed to drive home on back roads at 40 mph. This has happened on at least three other occasions, but the incidents occurred many months apart, which made me think it was a one-off situation. I have since researched this issue on the internet and have learned that many other people have had this happen to them. I think this is a tragedy in the making if Chrysler does not address this deficiency by issuing an immediate recall. I also request that a Chrysler dealership inspect my vehicle at no cost to me. Your prompt response to this urgent matter will be greatly appreciated.

When driving on freeway at high speeds the car shuts off and then back on again, when it happens the engine stumbles and the engine warning light comes on for a second and then back off. It makes for a dangerous condition. No codes come up though. Took it to the dealership and they put a new ignition key switch in but it still has the problem, they say there is no recalls.

8 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2016

Takata recall. I recieved a recall on my Jeep Commander about 8 months ago concerning engine shutting off while driving and potentially endangering my family as well as others. The recall stated when parts are available we would recieve a second recall to fix the trouble. About two weeks ago while driving my vehicle shut off on me and I almost hit another vehicle. I was making a right hand turn when it shut off and lost steering and brakes. I ended up having it towed home by tripple a and now it will not start. No fault codes present. After reading thousands of online reports of same trouble and Jeep Chrysler apparently not willing to address issue what do I do. If I did get it to run I would be afraid to drive it or my wife for fear of endangering her or my two young children. Please help all concerned.

9 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2015

I purchased my Jeep in April of this year. The 1st week I had it, it seemed to be be loosing power so I put it in the shop to have it repaired. This went on for several months. The Jeep stopped several times while I would be driving on the highway with my children. Despite the many advances of putting it in the shop, the problem never seemed to get fixed. About 3 weeks ago, I was on the highway with my 3 year old daughter and my boyfriend when it lost power to the point it shut off again. Thank god we all were able to safely make it out the Jeep without beimg injured. I had it towed to the repair shop were I was told my motor locked up. When I asked the mechanic how was that possible he said he had never seen anything like this happen before. It had oil and it wasn't running hot at all. It never ran hot at any point actually. When he checked, he found the Jeep didn't have any coolant but could not give reason to why this happened. I contacted several Jeep dealerships that told me that never hadn't never been any recall on my Jeep but I found several things on the internet stating that the engine and coolant system a on my vehicle had been an issue with other Jeep owners same year; make and model of my vehicle.

10 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2015

While driving the car would just shut off at random losing brakes, steering and engine power as well as other comfort features. It has happened on at least 6 occasions, usually you could just shift to neutral while driving and restart the car fixing the issues. Today however it happened will switching lanes to the center turn lane. Upon applying the brakes to wait to turn left the pedal went to the floor, then on the second depress it was super stiff and very little braking force applied. This caused the Jeep to rear end the 2 other cars waiting to turn left. The airbags didn't deploy either.

11 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving at any speed, the rpms increased and the vehicle shut down. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was driven to a mechanic who found a "p0 433 cam sensor code" failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

12 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2013

I purchased the 2007 Jeep Commander with the 5. 7 hemi in spring 2013 and a few months later coming to a stop it just shut off. At first I thought maybe some water had gotten into the engine compartment since it was raining and shorted something. Started back up and thought all was fine. Well recently it has been happening more often, whether it is wet or dry out and at any speed or whether the cruise control is on or off. It also seems to try to shut down while feathering the gas pedal at highway speeds from accelerating to coast. On one occasion this summer at highway speed pulling our camper it shut down and I had to coast to a stop along the side of the highway to restart. Something has to be done. I have children, as I am sure many here with the same complaint do.

13 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

Sarting in September of 2013 while on the interstate traveling at 70mph in the middle lane of 3, the vechicle shut off and the warning lights came on and we had to drift to the side of the road. We got of the road to the side put the Jeep in park and after several tries it restarted. We have noticed on occasions after this, while slowing down to turn there is a clunk in the drivetrain. Soon after the clunk starts, that is when the Jeep will shut off. It has happened at highway speed and at signal lights. After the first it shut off we took it to a Jeep dealer and they put on in on the computed but said it didn't show anything. This has happened about 10 times since September and you take your like in your hands everytime you get on the interstate.

14 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2013

While driving the vehicle under normal conditions on the on-ramp to the highway, the vehicle stalled and lost power. I was not able to restart vehicle in neutral, once it rolled to a stop, and it was placed in drive, the vehicle was able to start. Approximately two miles on the highway, driving approximately 60 miles an hour, the vehicle shut down again. It restarted once it came to a complete stop and I was able to put it in drive.

15 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

I have had this issue for over a 1. 5 years. I've only had the Jeep for 2 years. It has progressively gotten worse. The vehicle jerks and putts, the engine light comes on eventually flashes and the car shuts off. Chrysler Jeep has not, to this day, been able to diagnose the problem even with Chrysler engineers. They have kept my car for weeks at a time to no resolve. They have tried replacing multiple parts just to see if it works. On a few occasions I have almost been hit due to the vehicle stalling out. I have been told that Chrysler corporate will no longer assist me with this case.

16 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2012

While driving on the highway around 50-55mph the engine shuts down with no warning. There will be some slight hesitation as the dashboard lights up and all power is lost. Have been able to coast over to the side of the road before coming to a complete stop where I can then turn the car off. This has happened 4 times now and can be potentially very hazardous. I am able to restart the car immediately and be back on my way with no problem. Has been happening once every week or so. Have taken truck to the dealership twice where they tell me they can not duplicate the problem and they do not now what is causing it.

17 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2012

Was driving to work going about 60 mph and motor just shuts off. Had to pull off to the side of the road and turn off the key and tried to restart engine. It didn't start on the first try had to turn key off and tried again it started. It did the same thing when I was going home that morning had to do the same thing as above to get it started again. This is very dangerous I didn't have power steering or brakes luckily I wasn't on the freeway.

18 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

19 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 02/29/2012

Vehicle was traveling at a speed of sixty five mph on the highway, when the engine just shut off, losing power and making it very hard to get the vehicle off the road and stopped safely. This has happened numerous times in the year we have owned the vehicle. When the engine shuts off it makes it very hard to turn because power steering is disabled because the engine is not running. When the vehicle shuts off it makes it very hard to get to the shoulder of the roadway without any engine power and the sudden slowing down is a very high risk for a rearend collision. We have had numerous close calls in this vehicle because of this problem. I have replaced numerous parts to try and resolve this issue but with no success it continues to happen. The vehicle has been to the dealership numerous times to have this problem fixed and they say (we can not get the vehicle to act up with the technician driving the vehicle to exactly pin point the problem. ) this is very frustrating because this vehicle is very unsafe to drive with this issue. I have looked up numerous complaints and issues of people with the same vehicle having identical problems and have yet to be resolved. We have replaced spark plugs, coils, map sensor, mds wiring harness, ignition switch with oem parts and the issue still continues. I recommend faulty engine wiring, ecm, to the service advisors just to be ignored. They tell me until the issue is recorded on the vehicle scanner that nothing can be done to pin point the problem.

21 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

The 2007 Jeep Commander's engine and power shut off at highway speed (approx 65 mph) on I-95. The power steering and power brakes were not operational. My wife had to cross four lanes of traffic to stop the vehicle on the side of the road to attempt to restart the vehicle. The key was not bumped or touched when the vehicle shut off. The vehicle did restart after coming to a stop.

22 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2010

We were on interstate 57 going 65 mph when all of a sudden the Jeep jerked like it was down shifting and just shut off. We had a semi behind us which almost hit us but we were able to coast onto the side of the sidw of the road. We then turned the key off and then restarted the car and it started okay but the engine light was on. The engine light finally went off by itself. Since then when driving the Jeep jerks and acts like it down shifting and the rpms goes way up. We are afraid to drive it on a highway because shutting off like that on the interstate could cause a serious accident. I am reading several complaints from others who own 2007 Jeep comanders so there has to be something faulty! this could cause a serious accident!!! we just purchased this from a dealer a month ago for our 16 year old twins. Thank god they were not driving it when that happened.

26 Engine Shut Off Without Warning problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2007

On approximately 6 occasions while driving my 2007 Jeep Commander, the vehicle has unexpectedly just shut off completely, steering wheel locks so you can't steer and it is very scary. Especially since I have a 4 year old daughter who was riding with me on one occasion. I am now reading online of many people with this car who have the same experience. The dealer told me they reprogrammed the computer, but I am terrified to drive my new car. Dealer also indicated they are not getting a lot of cooperation from the manufacturer on this one (as internet entries from others indicate as well). This is extremely dangerous. It also happened to me while I was driving on I-75 at about 70 mph. Again, the whole car shuts off and you can't steer. Something needs to be done immediately before someone is killed.
