I have a 2007 Jeep same engine and trans, it is doing same think as the 2006 recall is expressing. All I get from dealer is they can find nothing wrong. I can't get them to help me with anything. If you search the web you will see this is a big issue on the 2007 Jeeps also. I was very close to getting into a crash today. This is the 4th time it has happened. Recall number: 08v203000recall date: 05/06/2008 component: power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm) problem summary: Chrysler is recalling 24,461 my 2006 Jeep Commander vehicles equipped with 4. 7l v8 engines. The powertrain control module (pcm) was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain operating conditions. Consequence: this could cause a crash without warning. What owners should dealers will reprogram the pcm software in all 4. 7l engine equipped my 2006 Jeep Commanders built prior to January 11, 2006. The recall began on may 19, 2008. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
Driving home from meeting approx 10pm. All seemed to be running smoothly. Sudden 'clunk' noise from engine compartment. Engine stalled. Coasted to side of road. All dash lights came on as they do at engine startup. . . Indicating engine not running. Once stopped placed vehicle in neutral. Turned off key and turned back on. Engine started immediately and I completed my trip without further incident. The key did not fall out nor do I have anything attached to it. This is the 5. 7liter engine. A review of this issue on the internet once home has returned 100s of complaints from people who have had the same problem with no dealer resolutuion in any of the cases I read. I do not know if this is related to the outstanding key issue. I purchased this car yesterday so I cannot speak to whether it has happened before. This could be a very serious situation were it to happen in commute time traffic. I see the stalling issue on your list with all the engines used in the Commander but I see no resolution. This was from 2007. What has happened with this?.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated while driving approximately 5 mph the engine stall, no warning indicators illuminated. This problem occurred one other time. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or a mechanic. The vehicle was never repaired. The contact telephoned the dealer and the part needed was unavailable to perform the repairs. The vehicle is parked completly inoperable. The approximate failure mileage was 44,000. Bp.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4. While driving at various speeds, the engine stalled without warning numerous times. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
While driving on freeway, vehicle engine suddenly stalled. Was able to move off the freeway, vehicle restarted immediately when key was moved to off position, and then to start. No error codes came up on dash readout. Was able to complete journey with no other stalling at that time. Vehicle since has continuously and randomly has stalled at highway speeds as well as being stopped at a stop light or stop sign. Again no codes have come up on dash readout. This dangerous situation continues to occur. Vehicle has been updated on services needed, diagnostics taken; but still problem persists with no resolution from Jeep dealer and service technicians.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4. While driving approximately 65 mph, the engine stalled without warning. After restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The failure recurred on six separate occassions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician stated that a diagnostic fee would be charged prior to the vehicle being serviced under the recall. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). 2007 Jeep Commander engine stall in stop and in freeway at 65mph out of the blue could barely drive it almost caused us to get into an accident, had to pull over multiple times.
The engine stalls during operation (2007 Jeep Commander).
I am writing to express my concern regarding an engine problem with my 2007 Jeep Commander, that causes the engine to stall, and all power to shut down and the engine to completely shut off. While at first this problem was simply an inconvenience, I soon learned how dangerous this problem actually is. I was on a highway and I went to pass another car, mid-pass my engine stalled and I lost all power with another car coming at me head-on. Thankfully the other car was able to stop and we avoided a head-on collision at highway speed, but the outcome could have been very different. The stalling has been an ongoing issue with my Jeep now for at least two years, with no resolution to the problem in sight. I have followed all suggestions like not having a key chain and only using he key in my ignition with no change in the frequency of the stalling. It seems a bit ridiculous that there has been no solution to this very dangerous problem. A case was opened by Chrysler in January regarding my 2007 Jeep Commander stalling without warning. The stalling continues to be a very dangerous and unpredictable problem for me. In my last communication I was assured that my Jeep would be fixed when the part became available, I have heard nothing since January. Not only am I concerned about the safety of myself and others when I drive my car, I am also concerned about the additional stress this flaw in manufacturing is putting on the engine of my car. It’s extremely fortunate that no one has been seriously injured due to the stalling problem to date, but I fear it is just a matter of time until someone’s car stalls at the wrong moment and they are unable to avoid tragedy. I’m hoping someone can help we get resolution to this dangerous issue as Chrysler has done nothing so far.
The engine has stalled on me many times while driving at a slow speed, take off from a stop light or while standing still. Engine light has come one numeriouse times and codes have lead to different sencors. Which were replaced but did not fix the problem of the Jeep stalling and shutting off. This is my main vehicle and I can not chance the safety of my kids and family when no one wants to take action for a problem that has not been fixed or recalled. If anything happens to my family die to this problem there will be a law suit. I bought this vehicle used with a little over 60,000 miles on it and have only had it for a month. I can not even go a full week with out it shutting off or stalling on me. There is a serious issue that Jeep chrystler needs to look into!.
When shifting from park to drive, or reverse to drive, the engine stalls and it takes almost a minute for the shift to actually occur so I can drive.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated while driving at approximately 25 mph, the engine stalled. The vehicle was able to restart after three attempts. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the gear shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The contact received a notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown. Ak.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander 4x4. While driving approximately 60 mph, the engine stalled with the illumination of the entire instrument panel. The contact was able to restart the engine and resume in operation. The failure recurred twenty times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The mechanic advised the contact that the failure could possibly have been related to the primary control module. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they informed there was not a recall. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving approximately 5 mph, the engine stalled with the illumination of the entire instrument panel. The engine was restarted and resumed normally. The failure recurred on three separate occasions. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving at highway speeds, the engine stalled. The vehicle was taken to a local shop where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 47,700 and the current mileage was 48,000.
The engine has stalled on many occasions while driving on highway and other roads. This has occurred probably 20-30 times over the passed couple of years. Occasionally it will stall for a few seconds and then kick back in, but more often I will have to let the vehicle slow down and coast to a stop in the breakdown lane if there is one. I then put on the flashers, put it in park, turn off the key, wait a few seconds and start the vehicle. This may not happen again for several months or it may happen the next day. This is extremely dangerous and scares my wife and myself half to death. This past weekend while in the passing lane this occurred on the interstate with lots of traffic and we were lucky that it did not result in an accident. Researching online I have found that this is not uncommon with the Jeep Commander. There was a recall for this exact problem. (power train control module software) NHTSA campaign id # 08v203000, NHTSA action # ea07007. I called Chrysler and was basically told that our VIN# is not in the recall and they will not help. This is my wife's car but I usually do the driving.
The contact owned a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact was driving approximately 35 mph on a curved road when the engine stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where an oil change was performed and the contact was advised to have the vehicle inspected by a dealer. The failure recurred and the vehicle was towed to the dealer where an engine module was replaced. The failure persisted and the vehicle was towed back to the dealer where several unknown repairs were made but to no avail. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer where the contact was awaiting a full diagnosis. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that because they were unaware if the independent mechanic made any repairs to the vehicle, they were unable to assist. The contact stated that the failure occurred before the vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic. The vehicle was not further repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 52,000.
At 50 mph the engine stalled I pulled to the side and restarted it this has been happening ever since that first time only at present it happens more regularly at least once daily sometimes twice I have replaced many parts, plugs, coils, oil sending unit, cps, ignition switch but the problem still exist, ps I am a retired auto mechanic so I do not trust or believe in auto dealerships.
Beginning in October 2009 when the vehicle had less than 36k on it the engine stalled once. I thought maybe gas or something. . . . Then two more times in October while stopped. Gets worse by the week until it is actually stalling when driving at 60mph. . . . . Have had it in for service on several occasions and they have replaced several components and still will stall. This is 2012 and since it all began I have filed 2 cases with Chrysler, on the first go round, they thought they fixed it and again a few weeks later it began to stall. My daughter, 6 years of age, in the car and I am taking her to school and the engine stalls and we almost were hit by a vehicle traveling in excess of 55 mph, if that vehicle did not get out of the way it would have directly hit where my daughter was sitting. She began to cry and she will no longer ride in the Commander. We are all afraid to drive it. It has stalled on us I know over 100 times in the past 4 years. I have begged Chrysler to replace the vehicle. I loved my Commander I have had several Jeeps and this is so upsetting. Chrysler seems to deny they have any clue of these problems with 2007 Commanders and I see several postings on this website alone of the same issue. It is dangerous to drive this vehicle. Someone is going to be seriously injured. Please make them step up to the plate and own up to this before it is too late for someone. I will never believe it is actually fixed and they make us drive it until it so bad that they can make it stall. In the mean time, we are in danger daily. Please help us and advise us how to get out of this vehicle and into a safe one for my family.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While the contact was driving approximately 65 mph, the engine stalled with the illumination of the warning indicator. The vehicle restarted immediately and resumed as normal. Also, there was low engine power response when the accelerator pedal was engaged. The failure occurred sporadically. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who was unable to locate a problem. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. While driving approximately 30 mph on normal road conditions, the engine stalled unexpectedly while proceeding to a complete stop. The engine restarted after several attempts with the gear shifter placed in the neutral position. The warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The failures occurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they stated that the failure was related to the electronic control unit (ecu). The dealer reprogrammed the ecu; however, the failure recurred on a separate occasion. The vehicle currently has not been repaired. The contact was concerned of the safety risk involved. The failure mileage was 38,000 and current mileage was 40,200. Updated 01/07/09. The consumer stated several components were replaced, but the stalling continued. Updated 01/08/09.
Basically the engine stalls out while vehicle is at idle. Engine rpm's will increase up to 1200 and then drop to about 3000 rpms, and sometimes lower then this; almost to the point of killing the engine. It has occur twice to me, and three times to my wife.
The total occurrences include seven incidents of engine stalling to date, the most recent incident on or around December 26th, 2007. Five incidents occurred while my leased 2007 Jeep Commander was idling in park. Two of the engine stalls occurred while actually driving my vehicle, the December 17th, 2007 incident while driving upwards of 50mph. I was forced to put my emergency brakes on, change to neutral, and restart the engine while my car was moving at a high speed on just its momentum. There was a risk of a near accident with both the car to my side and behind me. I attempted to correct this instability by taking the car to the service department of the dealership I leased it from. I was given two unreasonable options by the service department after having left my vehicle there until the close of business that day: either leave my vehicle at the service department, without being given a loaner, until another incident occurs while the car was hooked up to a diagnostic machine and only until then would they even recognize that there was problem (not an option because that could potentially take weeks and I can't do without a car for that time) or take my car back and risk having it happen again with more serious consequences. So, in short, since I was sent off without recognition by the service department that a problem existed I was left without any possible corrective measures I could think of.
Engine stall while driving at 45mph. I was able to pull into grass and restart. System seemed to reset by turning key off, then back on. Nothing unique about day, sunny and 65 at 3pm est.
Engine stalled while driving at approximately 45 mph. Turned the key to off and restarted. 2007 Jeep Commander limited with 5. 7 hemi mds.
When I bought my 2007 Jeep Commander 2 years ago, a problem occurred 2 months after buying the car, where it would slow down when I was driving at a fast speed. This only occurred once, so I let it slide; however, this recently started becoming a frequent problem. There are even multiple times when the engine just completely shuts off in the middle of the highway. This is very dangerous for me and my kids' safety. There was even a time when a car almost crashed into me because the stop was so sudden. The problem ranges from my car just slowing down automatically to completely shutting off. The engine also starts shaking which ends up shaking my entire car. I do not understand why this is happening, but I do know that it is not safe. I took my car to the dealership I purchased the car from 1 year ago, but they only told me that I should not worry. I then recently returned to the dealership again when I noticed the problem was becoming gradually worse, and they wanted to charge me 1000 dollars for damages that they were not even sure about. I did not find this to be just because I was not going to pay that amount of money for something that is not my fault. I researched online that the feds are actually involved with engine stall problems for Jeep Commanders because more than 135,000 people have the same complaint as I do. This is very dangerous and something needs to be done. So far, I have not received any significant help.
I called the dealer (walnut creek Chrysler Jeep) in 2007 that my engine made a stalling noise when I started the engine, and they said not to worry about it (I purchased the vehicle in may 2007, so only a few months later). I moved the car to CT, and to TX (warranty companies continue to track my address, no word of recalls, they almost stalk me, I have the mailings to prove it, which I would like to opt-out from; only use an e-mail for recalls). For months, and years, I have been complaining that my vehicle has been accelerating usually while stopped at a traffic light, it stalls while driving, the front panel lights flicker even shut off (seems running on auto pilot), the engine self-shuts off for no reason. I even asked dealers if there were any recalls, they said no. I heard that many people had their front panel vehicle lights flicker erratically, also the self-accelerating and self-stalling problems with their vehicles. The thought that my car had been hacked crossed my mind (many studies show that this can happen); I contacted my insurance company, and also the state police agency regarding a drivers license and agency documentation fine print about research. No accidents, but the above problems continue to affect my vehicle (the panel lights "some what" slowed down, but the self-acceleration, self-stalling continue, and self-shut down continue. I have driven my vehicle for approximately 35,000 miles, and purchased it new in may 2007. Is this a safety issue? note: do not post or distribute my personal information, or upload to a public database. Please keep my personal information private. In addition, I do not want to be pestered with more warranty offers; I have no idea how they obtained my physical address.
While driving our practically new family 2007 Jeep Commander the engine stalled, at highway speed (70 mph +). I pulled to the shoulder; and re-started the Jeep. I drove about 40 miles, and w/o warning the Jeep stalled again. It also stalled a few days later, as I drove at city speed (30 mph). Every thing appeared to be normal during these occurrences -- no warning lights or beeps. When my husband and I returned from the trip, we took the Jeep to the dealer. They kept the Jeep 6 days. The service department rep. Said the engineers were unable to duplicate the problem, that every thing checked out okay. The rep did say that Chrysler is aware of the problem but do not have a fix, however he was advised to release the Jeep to us. We objected to taking the Jeep and the dealer worked out an acceptable deal on another model. We bought the Jeep new, 3 months before the incident.
Engine stalled twice while the vehicle was in motion causing the loss of power steering and power brakes. This led to a loss of control that required the vehicle to pull off the road.
We purchased a 2007 Jeep Commander on Feb. 10. It has 2,000 miles on it. Last week, the engine "threw a rod" through the side of the engine requiring a new engine to be installed. It was the result of road rainwater being taken into the engine through the air intake. I am having to file a claim with my insurance company to replace the engine. The water on ther road was minimal. I continue to see Jeep advertisements on television showing the Jeep Commander driving thru water. . . The consumer needs to be aware that the vehicle cannot be driven thru water. . .
