1 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/21/2018

Under heavy rain, the vehicle leaks on the inside to the point of a big puddle in the floor of the driver side while stationary. This has also caused a problem with my cruise control and on-screen nav it now goes on and off displaying the Jeep logo as if the car was just starting up and I am in the middle of driving.

2 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 11/05/2017

The first time it happened I was pulling out into busy traffic from a side street. I accelerated quickly and when I backed my foot off the peddle the car continued to accelerate. I tapped the peddle a couple times thinking it was caught on the floor matt (not). It back off and then it did it briefly again before correcting itself. This was all in a 10 sec. Time period. . . . . The second time it happened I was on the highway. I stepped down to pass a car and the peddle moved to the floor and stayed there for about 15 seconds, released and went to the floor again for about 10 seconds. I had my foot on the break trying not to hit other cars ahead of me. Everytime I lift my foot off the brake we went faster. Then it corrected itself again. I pulled off the road the second time and checked to make sure there was nothing on the floor board that might have interfered with the peddle but there was nothing. I was not using the cruise control in either occurrence. There was no accident but could have easily been. I did have a passenger in the car.

3 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 02/23/2017

My Jeep Commander will start accelerating excessively and will not stop until I disable the cruise control. This is extremely dangerous. The first time it happened I had to slam on the brakes and go into the ditch just to avoid a car.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 11/08/2016

The vehicle stalls in motion on both residential and highway and loses power steering. Cruise control once you set it acceleration occurs on its own this occurred on the highway. Ignition bumps out of the on position into accessory or off on it's own.

5 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 10/18/2016

The vehicle cruise control malfunctions: now even pressing "set" at least while driving over 40 mph makes the vehicle accelerate fast even to 80 mph so I press brake pedal which does disengage cruise control. Even if you turn cruise control off and then back on it keeps on happening every time you press set. I disconnected power to the cruise control.

8 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

Cruise control still does not operate. Single touch power window function no longer works on driver and passenger windows. While commuting to work on the toll road, rpms registered between 2500-3500 going at a speed of 75. The majority of the time, it was between 3000-3500. I did not have the air conditional running. I was not accelerating and was not going up or down inclines to cause the higher rpms. After exiting the toll road, I turned and while accelerating to around 40mph, the engine stalled and the check engine light came on. As I was on an inside lane, I had to slow down to allow a semi to pass on the outside lane in order to be able to pull over to the side of the road. I had to place in park, turn off the ignition switch, and turn it back on. Check engine light remained on. My average mpg was 13. 9, lower than it should be. Leaving for my commute home, when I turned on the Jeep, the check engine light was no longer lit. I noticed during the commute that the rpms were not as high as in the morning, and also my mpg increased by almost a mile per gallon, and that was running at the same speed and I also was running the air conditiioning. Upon exiting the toll road, the vehicle jerked heavily while downshifting from overdrive. A jerky motion continued for the remainder of my commute (ranging from 30-55 mph). Please note that I do now take photos after the engine stalls to reflect the mileage and that the light is lit. I also now take pictures when the check engine light goes off.

9 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 09/07/2014

Cruise control still does not work (day 2).

10 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 09/06/2014

While idling in a driveway, the check engine and esp/bas lights came on. The vehicle did not stall. Shortly afterward, when driving about 55-60 mph, I realized the cruise control no longer works. I tried multiple times to turn it on, but it does not come on any longer. The esp/bas light went off about 10 miles later, after I stopped to fuel up the vehicle. The check engine light remained on. About an hour later and another 35 miles later, after making a stop, the check engine light did not come back on when restarting the vehicle. Later in the afternoon, while it was in the neutral gear and going through an automatic carwash, the vehicle stalled twice. The rpms were constantly up and down between 500 and 1500 rpms.

11 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/26/2014

While traveling on an expressway in central michigan, I was using the cruise control to maintain a speed of 75 mph. With no warning at all, the mechanical components of the vehicle shut down, leaving my Jeep "dead in the highway". I was able to steer and brake, but the vehicle would not respond to acceleration by pressing the gas pedal. I pulled off to the shoulder, luckily without incident. Turned the key to the "off" position and waited about 10 seconds. I turned the key to the "on" position and it started back up. I cautiously drove at a considerably slower speed until I was able to get to a rest stop. When I got to my destination I found a local auto parts store and had them do a diagnostic check. It showed a maf sensor gone bad. Mass air flow sensor was replaced. Hoping that was the issue, after several days, my family and I headed back home on the other side of the state. While driving about 60 mph with cruise control, there were no issues. I figured the problem was fixed. Unfortunately, I was wrong. As I reached the highway where the speed limit is 70 mph, I accelerated to 70 mph with the cruise control. As soon as I broke the 70 mph point, the car mechanically stalled again as I was trying to merge onto the busy highway. Again, luckily, I made it safely to the shoulder and restarted. I was able to exceed 70 mph on the way home without using the cruise control. Concerned for my pregnant wife, toddler son, and my own safety, as this happened on a busy highway at a high rate of speed; with no warning lights or sounds.

12 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/17/2014

Was driving the vehicle first noticed the electric mirrors turned upward and unable to correct. Then the left window went down and moves up or down at random. The electric door locks became inoperative from driver side. The warning gauges started to go off and on and display started to flash different problems with the vehicle. While driving the next day the cruise control went off and everything started flashing this has happened several times and have put the vehicle in the shop. I have a video that I took while driving.

13 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/27/2014

The speed control accelerated and kicked into overdrive. It jumped from 65 to 80 in just a matter of seconds. I had to hit the brake and turn of the speed control. It now does it all the time when the cruise control is engaged.

14 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/14/2014

While I was driving on the highway I had my cruise control set at 55 mph as I came into a 35 mph zone I had tapped my breaks and then came to a red light where I had to stop, when the light turned green I then turned on state route 348 where the speed limit is back to 55 when I pushed the button to resume, my 06 Jeep Commander accelerated to a very high speed as if I pushed the peddle to the floor. When I pushed the break it then turned the cruise control off, luckily there were no cars in front of me or I would have crashed into the rear of their vehicle at a high rate of speed. At this point I cannot use my cruise control because this happens every time I try (note: I always make sure there is no cars in front of me).

15 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

This vehicle has numerous recalls related to all the problems our Jeep has. There is 0 recall for our VIN. The vehicle surges when driving up hills. The car won't start sometimes because the shifter control thinks it is in drive when it is in park. The cruise control does not work and the 4 wheel drive kicks in when driving at high speeds and jumps the car.

16 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 05/27/2013

Traveling at highway speed the blower motor cut off and the lights on that come on when you first turn the key on came on. When that cycle was over the cruise control came on and the vehicle rapidly accelerated. Had to turn the key off to kill the cruise control. This problem with the key hasn't happened while traveling down the road before only while sitting in park. When we purchased the vehicle they replaced the key saying it was the key causing the problem. The problem continued after the key was replaced.

17 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 09/29/2012

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving approximately 50 mph, the cruise control was engaged and the vehicle accelerated to approximately 80 mph. The contact had to apply the brakes in order to disengage the cruise control. The vehicle was taken to dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

18 Cruise Control problem of the 2008 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 08/06/2011

On Saturday August 6, 2011 while driving at 65 mph the electronic throttle control system malfunctioned and the vehicle would not slow down for 1. 5 miles. The cruise control was not in use and the floor mat was in a normal position. The etc warning was on during this malfuction but went off when the vehicle was stopped. During this episode the brakes and lower gears were used to slow down while the rpm was running very high.

19 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 06/06/2011

2006 Jeep Commander. On a recent trip 6-6-11. Wife was driving. Attempted to set (set) cruise control. Experienced runaway throttle wide open. Nearly rearended cars. It continues to do this. I contacted Jeep and reported the experience and have setup a service appointment. Jeep claims no recalls. Strins on the internet would indicate it is not an isolated incident.

20 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 03/21/2010

The cruise control has a mind of its own to give you the best idea of what I'm talking about. It consistantly speeds up to 20mph over what I intend it to be set at. For example, if I set it at 40mph it will speed up to 60mph instantly on its own. 1. There were no events leading up to this 2. It happens everytime the cruise control is set to any speed. The vehicle fails to maintian the set cruise speed by speeding up on its own. The most likely consequence will be a rear end collision with the car in front of me. 3. The dealer is being contacted today for report and possibility of repair.

21 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 12/23/2009

Cruise control sometimes accelerates severely.

22 Cruise Control problem of the 2007 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 09/07/2009

When the cruise control is engaged at highway speeds and the vehicle is traveling down a hill the cruise control will properly downshift to slow the vehicle and keep it at the set speed. If the vehicle is then shifted into neutral, the cruise control will disengage properly and the transmission will go into the neutral gear, but when shifted back into drive the transmission will re-engage and will slow the vehicle extremely abruptly as if someone slammed on the brakes with full force and will nearly lock-up the rear wheels on dry pavement. This will occur even if the cruise control is turned off before shifting back into drive. This has happened to me twice because of the placement of the shifter, and it was terrifying because of the speed I was traveling and the abruptness with which the vehicle slowed. If anyone would have been behind me I would have been hit and there is nothing that can be done to make the transmission not do that once the transmission has been shifted into neutral. The vehicle would become completely out of control if driving on anything but totally dry pavement.

23 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 07/10/2009

Acceleration does not stop when cruise control is engaged; accelerates past requested speed as if gas pedal is stuck. Contacted local mechanic, explained problem, they said it sounded as if it were a safety issue and would not touch it. Contacted Chrysler, basically told me there was no recall, sorry, and to have it looked at by a Jeep dealership. Began researching online, has happened to several people across the country with 2006 Jeep Commanders around the same mileage. One owner commented that he invested $600 in parts that were not the problem to begin with, there are no codes for this issue. Finally, the people working on it decided it was the powertrain control module and that seemed to fix the problem.

24 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 11/10/2008

Had cruise control set to 65 mph on the freeway. Out of nowhere the car began accelerating on its own to reaching speeds of 85 mph. If cruise control is turned on now it accelerates on its own and I MA not able to control the speed at all. Have taken car to dealership but they say nothing is wrong. Front windshield leaks and lets in too much air. I should not have to pay for repairs since it is a defect. Driver side window does not go down. Now rear passenger side window is starting to get stuck. Have replaced driver side switch and the problem still exists. Front passenger window goes down but the driver side which has controls to all the windows does not work for any of the windows. My car accelerates on its own on a daily basis. It can go from 35 mph to uncontrollable speeds. Taken to dealership several times but they never find the problems. Dealership cant even figure out what is wrong with the electrical windows.

25 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 06/02/2006

At different times, I and a friend driving my Jeep 2006 5. 7l hemi Commander have accidentally shut off the vehicle while driving on a highway doing 65mph while in cruise control. How this happens is like this. Depending on how you sit, when you engage the cruise control, you remove your foot from the accelerator which brings your knee up rather close to the key ignition. If you have anything attached to your key chain such as other keys that dangle down, then all it takes is for you to move your knee to the right thereby knocking the key chain with the dangling keys which will in turn move the key in the ignition to the off position, basically shutting off the engine while you are doing 65mph on the highway. When this happens, you probably wouldn't realize that this is what just took place because you're too busy being a little freaked out about having just lost all engine power but the electrical still works. This has happened 3 times.

26 Cruise Control problem of the 2006 Jeep Commander

Failure Date: 04/24/2006

Well . . . ?you're never going to believe to this? about 20 minutes ago I was driving sheri and myself back home from an appointment and went to pull out of a tee junction-, rossway road and the road was wet, I dabbed the throttle and pulled out gently, unfortunately a Cadillac came over the brow of the hill traveling fast and stamped on the gas to accelerate out of the way- nope he refused to move, I had my foot on the gas, flat to the floor- zero just min power, after what seemed like 1 â½ seconds it picked up- full throttle ? went sideways spinning the tires and was at that point on the shoulder- it then left off up the road like a drag car- 5000+rpm. Now the scary bit, such a maneuver should have turned the esp light on at least, nothing, I've got to tell you at this point I am done with this thing. I just called chris xxx at the dealership and he says that he can?t do anything for me except call dcc and a lawyer- he needs to hear from them what to do. But he says as there are no error codes stored he will have no data to work with anyway. I?m on hold with dcc now and I?m on hold waiting to talk to the next dept? chief , they will do nothing for me I?m sure. I've copied mr. Martin lee, who is my attorney on this message and I'm going to wait to see what he says? please add this to my file, thanks- another emergency has been narrowly avoided. . . While driving 54 mph with the cruise control on the vehicle's headlight went out and the vehicle stalled. The consumer turn the key to the off position then back to on and the vehicle started right up. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the found nothing wrong. Updated 05/02/06.
