The electrical system of my car malfunctioned intermittently causing lights, ac, and the engine itself to go off and on in the middle of the freeway. There was a recall on the 2010 Jeep Commander (same as my car) for faulty electrical system, yet my VIN was excluded. I believe it should have been included in the recall and this faulty electrical system was the cause of multiple repairs done at my expense to the tune of a couple thousand dollars. I ask for a query into this. The electrical system is the nexus of a car’s mechanical system and if not functioning correctly causes all else to eventually fail. The lights would not turn off after I turned them off, removed keys, and exited vehicle. Various lights would flash on the dashboard then suddenly disappear not providing enough time to read them. Many or all dashboard lights and ac would go out intermittently sometimes reappearing shortly later. Sometimes the car would shock me while driving on the freeway and therefore poses a safety threat to everyone else and me. Ultimately the engine went out while on the freeway. Jeep takes close to a month to fix a power control module and fuel pump replacement and fuel line. Reconsider requiring them to extend the electrical system recall to more 2010 Jeep Commanders. An electrical system main control is not a typical thing to need to replace in a low mileage car.

While driving my Jeep would just shut off. I would have to restart it and it would shut off again, sometimes at high speeds.

While driving al dash lights will light up and heat will shut off. . Come back on and happens again. There's no certain times it happens wheneve it wants to between 1-15 times a day driving and parked. Sunroof leaks through tubes into passenger side floor board and freezes windshield if temp is low. Transmission overheated warning comes on and transmission/ and or fluid is fine. Have had all issues checked and they can not find the problem! also need is reading code that suddenly my key isn't registered since this has been happening and my auto start won't work because of the key not being linked to my car anymore. This is unsafe and eventually will stop me from being able to drive my car. The lights all come on and then go off while driving on any street any speed or even parked. Heat shuts off while lights are on and comes back on after they shut off.

While driving this vehicle through a stone tunnel on the blue ridge parkway that had no lighting within the tunnel the Jeep suffered an total electrical failure and a total blackout took place. Thankful that I was not killed and that no one else was in the tunnel at the time, the Jeep was coasted to the outside of the tunnel and off to the side on the grass. Had anyone been coming in either direction I may have had enough light but it was pitch black. I have read of hundreds of electrical failures in this Jeep vehicle and wonder why I was never notified. This is a product warranty issue for Jeep and it nearly was also responsible for vehicular homicide! the Jeep just cut off all electric and not even dashboard lights afforded visual. I have the park rangers report and she said this most likely was total electrical failure. I have pictures from the accident as the Jeep hit the stone tunnel side and then the steering rod on the right broke. The insurance company chose to junk the Jeep and I was left without even a rental car. I have pictures and the rangers report and my report if requested. How do I contact Jeep for a product liability complaint?.
Vehicle was sold with no lights in back, including break and reverse lights, broken seat belts in back seats and one back seat that does not fold down which blocks rear view, and finally with bald tires that needed to be replaced immediately. The lights were supposedly fixed by the dealership's repair shop but after only a few weeks the lights were not working. The seat belts were supposed to be replaced and we were told that replacements were ordered but the dealership never called back to confirm that they arrived and ready for installation, they still have not been replaced. We were told that the tires and seat folding down were not safety issues and had to replace the tires ourselves. The seat still does not fold down and the lights on the back of the vehicle still don't stay on.
Instruments lights off and on(battery, check engine, air bags, breaks, etc), transmission overheat information light, vehicle shuts off while driving or won't start or loose power, computer tells mechanics a new module needed, but new module do not fix the problem. Had transmission services, and mechanic check out, but nothing worked.
The Commander has an electrical defect that prevents the car from starting. We have traced it back to the alternator wire. It's the design of the wiring that's causing a defect. When I research it this is a problem that most Commander owner's deal with. There's no way to fix the problem. Jeep fiat Chrysler have never addressed this problem. We've replaced the battery and alternator twice now in the last 2 years.
Takata recall my Jeep Commander has been nothing but trouble since I purchased it I have had all the recalls done by my local Jeep dealership and still have to constantly replace wheel speed (abs) sensors and reprogram the computer. At low speeds off aproxamitly 15-20 mph I loose power like the vehicle is trying to starve itself from fuel affecting accelerate so if you pull out into a intersection it practically dies and the. When you go to brake the pedal gets hard and the vehicle keeps rolling I have to replace all 4 wheel sensor (abs) and get computer reprogrammed for it to stop costing hundreds of dollars to do over the time that I have owned the vehicle I have learned to perform such task on my own . But I am sick and tired of every summer having to buy 4 50 dollar sensors and getting charged 125 dollars to redo the computer and not to mention when the Jeep decides to act up it put my child and mother to my child in serious danger never knowing when it will misfunction again and like many others I am upside down on the payments of the vehicle due to all the money invested.
I purchased the vehicle in 2010 and within a month some electrical issues were intermittently occurring. The dealer said the ignition had to be replaced and did so. These problems seemed to continue thought not often. The symptoms are as follows-first the lights start flickering and then go out. All of the dash components go out including the speedometer, fuel gage, radio etc. The ac fan also turned off. This condition did not stop the vehicle from running it just turned off the electrical components there was however a problem with stalling, a separate issue from the electrical issue. , a few times while in the vehicle was stopped it would stall when stopping or starting off again. This was true in reverse and forward. I was never really worried about safety until last night when the lights went out while driving on a dark curvy country road. It was only for a few seconds but it was terrifying. This issue needs to be dealt with. In 2015 there were several recalls issued and they seemed to be related to the problems I was having. I had all of the recall notices dealt with. The software upgrades and the ignition replacement. This didn't solve the problem. In fact it.
While driving my 2007 Jeep Commander, it will shut off. Other times the lights will flicker off and car seems to stall. This problem happens without any warning. It is very scary to be driving on the interstate and the car just stops!!! I have four children that I drive around, so this can not happen! I have read where there have been many complaints about this and nothing has been done. That is unacceptable because lives are at risk. I'm taking the vehicle in for the ignition switch recall, but I have read where that has not fixed the issue I am having.
Vehicle has a recall p41/NHTSA 14v-438 that was issued over a year ago. I received a second notice a couple weeks ago that the issue had finally been resolved and to make an appointment with my local Jeep dealer. Dealer is still unable to address the recall and could not give a time when the vehicle could be serviced. The problems with the ignition have become more frequent over the last 3 months. Lights will turn on and off within the vehicle. I am unsure if turning signals and brake signals are affected by this problem.
As I was driving down the road my automobile turned off and stopped working while driving! this is very dangerous and is very ridiculous considering I received a recall notice over 1 year ago concerning this problem. I make every attempt to ensure the functions of my vehicle are running properly for the safety of my family. I have young children and they could have been seriously injured had we been involved in an accident at the time of my vehicle's failure to operate correctly, due to the manufacturers irresponsibility of taking care of this problem within a proper time frame! Jeep and local dealers have been contacted multiple times to try to correct this problem, with no help from them it has yet to be repaired!.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Commander. The contact stated while driving various speeds, the instrument panel illuminated and vehicle was over heating. The failure occurred several times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. Tw.
Just as I was slowing down to 30 mph to enter a parking lot the entire dashboard lit up and then all lights faded and turned off. The ac turned off and the radio turned off. The car still continued driving but the power steering was gone, causing the car to shake and jolt mid turn. The brakes weren't working as they normally would resulting in a very dangerous situation had any other car been close to me at the time. I took it to my mechanic right away and he tested everything, including the alternator and the battery. Everything was functioning at 100% capacity and he couldn't find a reason for the check engine light to be on. This has happened 3 more times. I am unable to drive the vehicle in fear that it will break down or my family or another driver.
The instrument cluster reset 3 times and the head lights went out at the same time. It was night time when this occured. The road was smooth with no apparent bumps.
We purchased our 2006 Jeep Commander in November, 2008. The first problem we experienced was the rough vibration of the front end. We took it to our mechanic and was told that he was unable to see any thing physically wrong. This problem has increased over the years. The second problem we noticed, all of the interior door handles broke which creates some difficulty in exiting the vehicle. We maintained regular mantainence on this vehicle and the only other problem we experienced until now, we purchased two new batteries and the air condition blower was replaced. In August, 2014, I started the truck, preceded out of the parking lot and all the dash lights came on after a minute or so the lights went off but the engine light stayed on for 1 day. It has done this several times and then the lights started coming on while I was driving at any speed it appeared as if the truck was shutting down. If I was able to I would pull over and restart the truck this practice did not stop the lights from coming on and off. I was sitting at the red light and proceeded to move the vehicle when the light change after approximately 5 seconds of acceleration the truck shut completely off the driver behind me couldn't have none I was stopping because I never hit the brakes. I placed the vehicle in park and restarted it. Yesterday while driving all the lights came on and flashed off and on for about 5 minutes. I continued to drive for approximately 10 miles turned the key off and the key was unusually hot. This morning the truck would not start everything inside the vehicle came on and I could hear a clicking sound coming from the engine I waited a few minutes and tried it again, after 2 tries the truck started. If this is a manufacturer defect whom do I contact to help me resolve this matter. I am afraid this truck in it's current condition may be a hazard to myself and others.
All the light on my dash board have been flickering on and off for the past two months. It does not seem to affect my engine however it will completely take all gauges to zero while I am driving. I drove it last night and when it happened it killed my all my lights. I can hear a clicking sound when the flickering happens. It doesn't click continiously but enough to make me very uneasy.
I have had my 2006 Jeep Commander for a year and in that time period I have had a consistent problem. When I am driving the vehicle I will randomly lose power to the instrument panel, windows , windshield wipers and almost everything electrical. The engine will continue to run but if it happens at night I lose interior lights dash lights I can't see how fast I am going due to the panel not working. I have had it to the mechanic and he insists it has something to do with the ignition switch. I know a recall has been issued for a separate ignition problem but after reading online and seeing many other reports just like mine I,believe there is another issue to be handled. This problem is also making it impossible to get the vehicle inspected because when it acts up it cause the check engine light to come on and has to be reset. Then before all sensors have reset it occurs again. I have spent a small fortune is gas trying to get lucky to be able to pass inspection.
I was driving our 2009 Jeep Commander on the highway at night. The lights were on dim, and they adjusted down which gave only about 20 feet of visibility to the road. There was no car approaching, and the auto adjusting feature was not even turned on. I was driving 55 miles an hour when this happened. I found out that the vehicle is equipped with a self adjusting light system when using the brights. However, I was not using the brights, but had on the dim lights. The lights adjusted to the point that I could not see the road. If I had not known the terrain of the road, I could have easily driven off the road. The same thing happened to my wife a couple of times. Since we were the second owner of the vehicle, the warranty on this feature was only 90 days. This problem occurred just after the warranty ran out, and when we spoke to the local dealer, they acted as if they had not dealt with this issue before. To repair the sensor that controls the lights will cost several hundred dollars. The remedy presented by the dealer was to removed the bumper, and unplug the sensor. This is an unacceptable cure as this is a safety issue which Jeep is aware of, and apparently they will only make the repair if the vehicle is still under factory warranty. The car only had 57,500 miles on it when the incident occurred. According to the Jeepforum. Com, this has been happening for several years, and there has not been a recall to correct the problem. I find it an unacceptable answer to have lights that suddenly angle down when driving, making for a dangerous situation, and the manufacturer knows about this and apparently has not corrected the lighting problem.

While driving along a secondary road at night, the head lights and dashboard lights went off suddenly with out warning flickering on and off several times before coming back on. This has repeated it self several times.
While driving approximately 30 mph, dashboard lights began to flicker off and on and steering vehicle into a left turn was hard to do. Took vehicle to Jeep service department and was advised that problem is a electric stability control issue, the module is defective and manufacturer has not identified a fix. Was told I could purchase a new module, approx. $400. 00 for install, but there is no guarantee that problem will go away. Lightening continues to flicker approximately 3 - 4 times per month. Able to drive vehicle, but confidence in Jeep autos is shaken. Manufacturer should be held accountable.
Normal start up and driving. All dash lights, head lights, warning lights began blinking on and off very quickly for a few minutes until jiggling the ignition key a few times got all lights to stay on and warning lights to stay off. Car continued to run at the 35 miles per hour. Gauges were going from 0 to normal readings during this same time period. This has happened several times since this first incident. Did not notice quickly enough if the air bag lights were going on and off also but suspect that they were. All were in and out of alarm.
My 2006 Jeep Commander v-6 is showing esp, bas codes as well as disabling back up assist, traction control stays off, the abs light, and some times it wont click into gear, drive or reverse. And it is miss fireing on cylinder number four. Also all the lights dim and flicker.
The engine stalls and the head lights fail while my son is driving the car. We have gotten several recall notices. The latest tells us the parts are in and go to the local dealer. No. They don't have the part. We are frustrated and demand we get the ignition switch and lock cylinder replaced. Do your part dodger chrystal Jeep.
While driving down the road, the entire cluster of instrument warning lights begins to flash intermittently, creating a distraction and safety hazard while driving. In addition, the fuel gauge drops to "e", the speedometer drops to zero and then goes up and down and all gauges go up and down erratically. Also, the heated seats turn off as does the fan for the heater/ac unit. Verified with local mechanic that this is not related to the ignition switch and is most likely an ecm and/or pcm issue. Replaced battery but problem still exists. Engine malfunction indicator light comes on for several cycles, computer reboots itself and then the trouble starts again shortly after. This appears to be an ongoing issue with the 06 Commander but my VIN was not included in the ecm/pcm recall (08v203000) because I have the 6-cylinder rather than the 8 cylinder engine. This is a safety hazard while driving and I just feel fortunate that as of yet, my car is not stalling like so many others. However, I feel my issue is related to this same recall and want to have it on file.
Interior and exterior lights will intermittently go off and on at the same time. On a freeway at 65mph this is not acceptable.
The front module is corrupt. It causing various electrical issue. Lights, blinkers, radio, speakers, dashboard displays, heating/cooling, are all inoperable. Jeep is claiming that this is not their responsibility. This part is not mechanical. I can understand wear and tear but this issue would be a faulty part not an issue of maintenance or the lack of. Without a recall, I am subject to expense that could end up costing me $1000 to $3000. I find this to be situation where Jeep is taking advantage of their clientele. I have searched multiple forums and found this to be a re-occuring issue in many of Jeeps models. This an injustice and unethical act upon the consumer. This issue has been escalating since 2012.
Driving to work at an intersection. In the midst of turning left on to the road to my work parking lot. . . My car stalled on me. Again, I was in an intersection with on coming traffic. No lights came on (warning lites) no werid sounds , no jerking - just stalled. Started back up once I turned the key off and then on again.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the wiring in the starter would have to be replaced. Additionally, the exterior lighting intermittently failed and the front driver side window intermittently failed while being opened or closed. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Electrical dash board blinks while driving, driver's seat moves while driving, when it rains the driver's floor is soaked with water and passenger side floor is wet as well, vehicle jerks while driving. Indication lights pops on dashboard sporadically, radio and navigation doesn't work.
The lights on my 2006 Jeep Commander ac/heat panel will not light up since 2011. Also my stereo lights, head lights and speedometer lights and other instrument light flicker randomly. My other problem that started in April of 2014 is when I am driving at 55/60 mph a warning message will pop up that reads transmission over temperature. It sometimes goes out on its own while I am still driving and sometimes it will take me to turn the truck off and restart the engine then it will go off.
Purchased 3/11. 6/11 myself/3 others were lockedâ in the vehicle. Doors wouldn't unlock/open, windows didn't work, wouldn't start. We were held hostage for 5 min when it start up and everything worked. 6/11 exited-left the keys on seat 30 sec later lights inside flickered, doors locked, horn honked. 7/2011 driving down the highway at 70 mph it momentarily shut off for about 3 sec and turned its self-back on. This caused a drastic drop in speed before it restarted. 7/11 drivers side floor mat was very wet from rain entering the truck. 7/11 driving in a rain storm witnessed water coming down the driver's side pillar next to the windshield. 4/12 attempted to start it. Everything worked but wouldn't start 20 min later started right up. This happened 7 times since. 3/14 parked for 2 min wouldn't restart. Had it towed to a shop where they started it right up. They couldn't find anything wrong . Went to pick it up and it wouldn't start. So they started replacing things hoping they could find a problem. New battery-old battery was good, fuses, starter, relays and out of the blue two days later it started up even after attempts after the fixes 5/13 all lights went out, wipers, wiper sprayer, horn, blinkers, dash lights, rear park assist all stopped working. I was forced to drive home in the rain at night with none of these. 4/14 this happened again for about 24 hours. 5/14 this happened again for 5 days. I have called dealerships about recalls and always told no and to bring it in at $100/hour to find the issues. It has been hooked up to code readers 10+ time with no codes. Licensed mechanics who can tell me only what they think it could be, educated guesses. Every day is a guessing game with this Jeep and what it's going to do or when I'm going to get injured due to one of these numerous, chronic, magical issues.

2006 Jeep Commander 4x4 trail rated.
I currently own a 2006 Jeep Commander and for about two weeks now I have being having serious problems with my exterior and interior lights flashing on and off I have taken it to the dealership and they keep saying that they do not know what is wrong with it, they cannot find know faults or defects. The lights has being going off while driving at night on the express way with my baby in the vehicle can someone please help me with this issue I fear for my life and the life of my child. I cannot understand how the Jeep dealership cannot recognize the problem of one of their vehicles. I are completely lost and confuse.
Reference complaints 10244597, 10247128. Today, driving in the rain, lights dimmed and car hesitated, eventually stalling while in motion. While we were at a stop, the car again stalled and took several tries to restart. I no longer drive with the children in the car, and have not since the previous incident at 61k. I have tried contacting Jeep through my dealer, with no response. Today I sent an email via their website, however, I am not hopeful of any response. This will be the final time I will file a complaint, as I have called the bank and told them to come and get the car. I can only hope that the person who considers purchasing my car, as I am sure another unscrupulous salesman will put the car up for sale, does his or her research and finds the complaints I have filed here and with the PA attorney general's office.
