When driving car at night the dash lighting and the head lights went dark for 5 minutes and came back on, driver had to pull over and almost caused an accident due to no lighting. This has happened 3 times in the past 3 weeks very concerning. Headlights and dash lighting should not go bad before the power train on any car built ever. Thank god the person driving was calm enough to handle the distraction.

Driving at night the headlights would flash on an off.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, several warning lights became illuminated. Additionally, the headlights became dim, the radio volume independently lowered, speedometer and tachometer fluctuated. The vehicle was taken to bald hill Dodge Chrysler Jeep ram located at 1035 bald hill rd, warwick, ri 02886, (844) 847-4671) however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact stated that several years ago, the alternator was replaced however, the replacement of the alternator failed to eliminate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
I cannot "safely" drive my vehicle as the car goes into neutral on it's own? there have been many a times that I have been on the highway traveling 55 mph or more and all of a sudden, the car would slightly jerk and then loose complete power. I would step on the accelerator but no change, I would simply pull off to the side of the highway. Wait a few minutes and eventually the car would start up again? the headlights and interior lights go off and on? the face plate to the radio system gets hot? and has affected the illumination of the dashboard instrumental lighting? this is not a VIN thing but a Jeep Commander thing? such an attractive vehicle with so many many issues? safety issues. And the company has yet to fulfill the recalls? its been more than a year? dealers keep telling the consumers, the part isn't available yet? I need to be able to drive to work, this has cost me additional money to buy a reliable vehicle to get me to work. I paid over $35,000 for it, and meanwhile it sits in the garage. A lot of money for your average joe to fork out. Who's going to force the manufacturer to honor the recall?.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving various speeds, the entire instrument panel illuminated and the headlights dimmed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing, but the results were unavailable. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 93,200.
All lights on the dash flip off and on in succession and the odometer and tachometer drop to 0 while maintaining speed. Highbeams and headlights also seem to be effected. Happened first on December 31 and has continued happening since this time at random times.
While driving - usually at night and at all speeds my headlights will flicker like a strobe light and then go off completely, including the interior lights as well indicating my speed, etc. . Sometimes I can use my high beams to at least be able to see, however, even sometimes this does not work. Very, very dangerous to not be able to see or be seen at night in random places on the freeway, in the city, etc. . . . Please someone help - dealer states that they have no clue as to what the problem might be!! another problem, I have been dealing with, is the air conditioner in the vehicle will stop and not blow any air. I took it to the dealership and they stated that they did not have the part to fix my car. On top of that they gave me a piece of my car that apparently fell off, while they were inspecting it??!!?? they told me it was not their fault and that it is a faulty piece called the housing which is part of the inlet housing and that it would cost $1,156. 38 to fix. Unbelievable!.
In April of 2013 I started having tilting issues with my high-intensity discharge headlamps automatic headlamp leveling system. My vehicle is a 2010 Jeep Commander. When I drive at night my lights would lower all the way down randomly, leaving the road infront of me pitch black. I have been forced to drive with my high beams on during these episodes until the lights would raise again to the normal setting. With in the last two weeks the lights won't raise at all and I am forced to limit my driving after dark. I have 2 small children and clearly this poses a safety issue. I took my vehicle to cueter Jeep in ypsilanti, mi to have the problem fixed and the service tech told me that he couldn't fix the problem because he couldnt duplicate the problem. ( a recap: the problem was that the lights would not move into a level adjustment at this point as I explained to the service tech. ) when I dropped off my vehicle I also had an oil change and tailgate work done. I left the vehicle overnight for all the work to be completed as they were waiting for tailgate parts(drop off time at cueter Jeep service 7am Thursday April 25,2013/ pick up time 12pm Friday April 26,2013). The service tech told me at the pick up time that he couldn't duplicate the problem and that he couldn't fix the headlight problem and that the headlights were acting that way because the highbeam auto dim was turned on, in which was not the case as that feature was not turned on nor have I ever turned that feature on. May 1,2013 9:31am, I talked with the service manager at cueter Jeep (richard bayer) and he told me that they couldn't figure out the problem unless I left the vehicle over night so they can drive it at night and I explained to him that I did and also confirmed that the techs leave the dealership at 6pm. So my safety issue hasn't been resolved by cueter Jeep, my 5 star dealer.

The vehicle will suddenly lose power to the headlights, taillights, instrument panel, speedometer, odometer, and the interior some lights will turn themselves on without cause or warning. In the most recent event, vehicular damage and possible personal injury nearly occurred when driving in the dark, almost striking a utility pole. Also, the automatic window control will not function properly when trying to roll up the window itself. It will stop halfway and bring itself back down. It usually takes 3-4 times to roll the window up. This has occurred numerous times, so many that I can't keep track. The local dealership cannot pinpoint the issue and this vehicle is not safe to be on the road.
There is a serious electrical problem with the SUV which started within . The dealers looked at it, I paid for computer diagnostics and still nothing. Besides all the lights flashing on and off, the speedometer fluctuating, actually all the instruments going on and off while I am driving; also, the temperature control panel does not light up when the headlights are on. I have never had an automobile with all these electrical problems that no one can fix. Please recall this vehicle before someone dies. I try not to drive long distances alone because of this problem.
I own a 2006 Jeep Commander ltd. With the 5. 7l hemi. Date of manufacturer was 06/06. In the past year my Commander has began stalling out sporadically while stopped completely. It occurs at any time, night or day, usually only when the engine is cold or cool. The problem occurs when I come to a complete stop at a stop sign, stop light, or any other complete stop in drive or reverse. When I come to a complete stop the rpm's drop and the vehicle stalls out. No warning lights or check engine lights show up on the dash. When it occurs at night all the external vehicle lights turn off, thus making me and my vehicle vulnerable to other traffic. It does not trip a code in the computer so the dealer cannot diagnose the problem. The first time I took my vehicle in for maintenance regarding the problem the dealer recommended I replace the egr valve so I did what they recommended. The problem still occurs. The dealer advised me that they cannot duplicate the problem therefore there is nothing they can do to correct the problem. When my vehicle stalls out it typically will do it 3-5 additional times per trip and it happens at least once per week. I have read that numerous people are having the same problems and Jeep has no fix. I am very concerned with this problem because it is unsafe as I was nearly struck by another vehicle. Recently I was traveling down the street at night and was preparing to turn left at a stop light. I stopped in the middle of the intersection to wait for the oncoming traffic to pass, when my car stalled out and all of the lights turned off (headlights, running lights, etc) making my vehicle completely invisible to traffic. I was unable to move the vehicle until I placed it in neutral and had to restart the engine and move out of the intersection. Please look further into this problem with 2006 Jeep Commanders as this is not something that should happen.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, all the warning lights illuminated. The headlights also failed intermittently. The failure recurred numerous times over the course of a year. The vehicle was taken to dealer where the contact was informed that the battery would need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The dealer informed the contact that the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 72,000.
I am having trouble with my head lights flashing and my dash board flashing on and off and it is very dangerous when it happens at night bcz my lights go on and off making it hard to drive and to focus on the road. My seat belts falling apart and not wanting to latch and is hard to get it apart when it does. Not sure what is going on but any helpful advise would be appreciated.
The headlights begin to flash on and off intermittently. The lights within the instrument control panel are not illuminated and flash as well. I have to manually turn the lights off then turn them back on numerous times to get the flashing to stop. It is a very scary, dangerous, and embarrassing problem when it happens. This has been an ongoing issue for a few years now. The dealer was not notified. There are no recalls or warranties related to the failure.
I purchased the 2006 Commander in June 2010. The first 6 weeks I had the vehicle I loved it. The first incident I had with the vehicle was the service park assist warning came on and stayed on for two days, then went off on its own prior to getting an appointment to have it checked. The next incident happened when I was idling in traffic at a stoplight. Every indicator light on the dash came on and the vehicle started to stall but did not completely stall out. Since that episode I have had issues with the driver side front window and passenger side rear window not functioning properly (at times won't roll up or down from either control). More recently I have had increasing episodes (two to three times per month) of the dash lighting up, headlights dimming and the vehicle losing power (so far always while parked or shifting from park to drive), as well as the service park assist warning and window issues. After hearing of a coworker with a 2007 Commander having some of the same issues I began searching the internet and have found numerous complaints of the same issues as mine. I am afraid to drive this vehicle with my children inside in the event that it would stall out on the highway and I would not be able to control it. I spoke with the dealer that sold me the vehicle yesterday and they have agreed to look at it free of charge this morning since there is no warranty on it now, but I still am not sure I want to keep this vehicle any longer. Chrysler needs to recall these vehicles and fix this issue. I used to be a die hard Jeep fan. . . But no longer! I am surprised that I have not found any reports of death or serious injury as a result of these electrical issues with this particular model.
Chrysler has a recall on electrical systems on the 2008 Jeep Commander. The recall details loss of headlights, wipers, blinkers, and for the engine to stall. But they are only covering it on certain vins. Our 2008 Jeep Commander has suddenly experienced all these problems. My husbands head lights went out in the middle of driving in the dark. The wipers quit working, we have no blinkers, and the engine keeps stalling. We called the Chrysler corporation and they refuse to take our Jeep in on the recall, yet acknowledged it had all the signs of the recall, they said it had too many miles. We have three small children and the recall states that it is a serious problem and could cause a crash. So what are we too do know?.

Headlights and interior lights shut off while driving at night at highway speed, but the radio remained on and the engine was also working. All the lights on the instrument panel flipped on and then off with the exception of the base esp and the traction control lights, they stayed on. Power steering and power brakes were working and if it had not been dark out, could have drove home. The vehicle did come back to normal working order within a few seconds. This record of events happened 3 times within a few minutes at 10 pm and was very scary. I brought the vehicle to the Jeep dealership and they replaced the power junction block. They said there were multiple codes they found in the system but the fault that leaped out to them was u0200.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The headlights began flashing on and off intermittently. The lights within the instrument control panel are not illuminated. The dealer was not notified. There are no recalls or warranties related to the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.
During regular drive of the car, I experienced major electrical shut down. It does not happen very often. I noticed that is happening in summer time more often than in winter time. I noticed it for a first time 2 years ago and reported to local service dealer. They told me to keep an eye on it and to tell them if I notice any trend. Except for summer/winter, I couldn't notice any other trend. Last summer it was happening quite often and after bringing it to the service, they couldn't find cause of the problem. I think they performed some recall firmware update (08v-203 I think) but I still have same electrical problem. I don't have engine stall however. Last night (July 3rd 2009) it happen to me for the first time during night and I just realized how serious safety issue it actually is. While driving home with my family, everything in the car (headlights, ac , stereo (except lcd display) all lights on the dashboard (except p r n d gear indication)) went off for a few seconds and came back on. It happened 15-20 times in 30 minutes time frame. At one point after ~10th interruption, check engine light came on (error code u1411). So, all lights disappeared while driving at night putting me and my family at risk of an serious accident. I don't have confidence in this car any more unless there is a permanent fix for this problem.
My 2006 Jeep Commander has headlights that go off randomly. This has a problem from the purchase and has continued. It's never been fixed and this is truly a dangerous situation.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. She stated that intermittently while driving the head lamps and lights on the instrument control panel failed. The impairment of visibility while driving increased the risk of a vehicle crash. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility and a mechanic replaced the battery. The failure resurfaced after the vehicle was repaired. She is in the process of having the vehicle inspected and repaired by the dealer. The failure mileage was 55000. The current mileage was 63000.
November 24 evening leaving fuji (children in car) November 30 morning on way to work ? hit mailbox (baby in car) December 5 morning on way to work ? dies turning out of subdivision and stalls in middle of street (baby in car) there was one other instance when I had all kids with me?it was prior to Nov 24 but I do not recall the actual date all of the instances the engine stalled, the lights (when on) went out, I lost the ability to steer and brake as well. The mph ranged from 4 or 5 mph to 35 mph. There were times when it was warm and days that it was cold. Nothing seemed to standout as a possible "trigger" I took car to dealer after the November 24th incident. Tony in the service department said there was really nothing that they could do unless it was a problem they could "make happen" when they drove it. A few days later I wrecked into a mailbox when my Jeep stalled and I lost steering and braking capability. . . . I am lucky it was not head on with a large truck or a tree.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving between 50-60 mph, the headlights would dim intermittently and illuminate again after approximately one minute. The interior lights completely failed and would flash when the door was ajar. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer. The failure mileage was 39,000 and current mileage was 40,300.
I purchased a 2007 Jeep Commander in October of 2006. At about 2,000 miles, I experienced an electrical failure that caused many gauges to come on or go off. I did lose my headlights & the transmission downshifted. I pulled over, powered off the vehicle & restarted. The vehicle has done this same or similar problem 4 times now. I've filed the lemon law in indiana, but it was denied. The last time I experienced the electrical fault, my seat starting moving forward for a few seconds while I was driving the car. The vehicle has registered fault codes every time that I saved. Each time, the dealer can not duplicate & performs computer flash updates in hopes of correcting problem. In my opinion, the vehicle is dangerous to operate.

I purchased a 2006 Jeep Commander last year. I have had the following items replaced on my Jeep front passenger interior door panel. Strange noise coming from my car that sounded like playing cards in bike tires ended with replacing front axel ring and pinion. Car kept popping out of gear the entire gear shift was replaced. My passenger window had to be fixed it kept sticking halfway up. I had a problem where my car kept stalling. I was told the first time that no error appears on the computer and Jeep knew of no issue with cars stalling so maybe it was bad gas. It died several more times and finally they did replace a part inside the idol. I also had an issue where my headlights kept turning off as I drove or would flash on and off. They replaced the headlight switch. I have had the rubber stripping from my back driver side window come off and now it is occurring on the passenger side. From the beginning I have told them I do not feel my transmission is working properly that it shifts hard and when I shift from reverse to drive there is a big hesitation. I have been told no error is appearing on computer and that Jeep as usual has no known issues so they had no suggestions. Once again they thought it was a gas issue moving from winter to summer blend. The last time I had it in when it was stalling I told them it the transmission was still hesitating and would make a pop noise at times then it would go. It is still occurring and at times the car acts like it might not shift into drive. I am satisfied with how my dealership is working with me they are doing their best to help me. I blame Jeep/Chrysler all you have to do is search the web to see that there are so many others just like me with the exact same issue. They need to recall these cars now and if they can not find the problem then replace them for us.
: the contact stated the headlights were too high, and focused too high and too far to the left. While stopped at a stop sign, a police officer pulled the contact over, and informed the contact that it was illegal to drive with the high beams on while facing traffic. The contact informed the officer that the lights were the low beams, and proceeded to demonstrate the brightness of the high beams. The officer then instructed the contact to have a dealership adjust the headlights. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, who informed the contact that the headlights were not adjustable. The manufacturer was contacted, who was also unable to provide any assistance. Updated 12/1/2006 - the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer who insisted that the headlights on the Commander were not adjustable. The consumer took the vehicle to an independent repair facility who was able to adjust the lights.
