Approximately 40 miles from home, on a day with the temperature well below zero degrees fahrenheit, we rolled our front windows down to talk to our neighbors, who were shopping at the same mall as us. After visiting with them, our windows would not roll back up. Our family had to drive in freezing weather back home, on a Sunday, with the windows rolled down. On the way, by rapidly depressing the windows lock button, while my wife repeatedly pulled up on the front passenger window switch, we got her window to roll up. We never could get the drivers front window to roll up. I replaced the master switch assembly on the drivers door panel, but that did not help. The dealership told me that I probably have multiple broken wires in the wire bundle in the door hinge area. Jeep has not, to my knowledge, addressed this problem at all. The internet forums are chock-full of hundreds and hundreds of consumers that have had, and are having this same problem.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. Upon restart, the vehicle operated as normal. The vehicle was taken an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was repaired, by a previous owner, under the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 08v203000 (power train:automatic transmission:control module (cm, pcm)). The contact also stated that there was a burning odor coming from the air vents. Since the presence of the burning odor, the air conditioner no longer functioned. There was also a failure within the passenger side window, in which the window would roll down when the button was engaged to make the window roll up, and the interior dome lights would involuntarily turn on and off. The vehicle was not taken to be repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 37,000.
Had cruise control set to 65 mph on the freeway. Out of nowhere the car began accelerating on its own to reaching speeds of 85 mph. If cruise control is turned on now it accelerates on its own and I MA not able to control the speed at all. Have taken car to dealership but they say nothing is wrong. Front windshield leaks and lets in too much air. I should not have to pay for repairs since it is a defect. Driver side window does not go down. Now rear passenger side window is starting to get stuck. Have replaced driver side switch and the problem still exists. Front passenger window goes down but the driver side which has controls to all the windows does not work for any of the windows. My car accelerates on its own on a daily basis. It can go from 35 mph to uncontrollable speeds. Taken to dealership several times but they never find the problems. Dealership cant even figure out what is wrong with the electrical windows.
Power window switch sometimes fails to work causing windows to stay stuck in open position.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle shut off and there was a total loss of power. The vehicle was able to be restarted. The failure has occurred on four occasions and the dealer has been unable to duplicate the failure. The current mileage was 9,800 and failure mileage was 8,000. The consumer provided the invoices for repair. The dealer stated windows are malfunctioning they only go halfway up and come right back down. Updated 08/22/07.
I purchased a 2006 Jeep Commander last year. I have had the following items replaced on my Jeep front passenger interior door panel. Strange noise coming from my car that sounded like playing cards in bike tires ended with replacing front axel ring and pinion. Car kept popping out of gear the entire gear shift was replaced. My passenger window had to be fixed it kept sticking halfway up. I had a problem where my car kept stalling. I was told the first time that no error appears on the computer and Jeep knew of no issue with cars stalling so maybe it was bad gas. It died several more times and finally they did replace a part inside the idol. I also had an issue where my headlights kept turning off as I drove or would flash on and off. They replaced the headlight switch. I have had the rubber stripping from my back driver side window come off and now it is occurring on the passenger side. From the beginning I have told them I do not feel my transmission is working properly that it shifts hard and when I shift from reverse to drive there is a big hesitation. I have been told no error is appearing on computer and that Jeep as usual has no known issues so they had no suggestions. Once again they thought it was a gas issue moving from winter to summer blend. The last time I had it in when it was stalling I told them it the transmission was still hesitating and would make a pop noise at times then it would go. It is still occurring and at times the car acts like it might not shift into drive. I am satisfied with how my dealership is working with me they are doing their best to help me. I blame Jeep/Chrysler all you have to do is search the web to see that there are so many others just like me with the exact same issue. They need to recall these cars now and if they can not find the problem then replace them for us.
24 hours after getting my car back the windows went haywire. They are still not working right. While my husband was on the way back to the dealership yet again because of the electrical problem the gauges all lit up and went dead it showed I was out of gas even though it was full abs system stuck on while he was on the freeway after several attempts to get the car running he drove to the dealership with the engine light on and abs running. (sat 072107) they'll look at it Tuesday. When my husband went to go get my car 07/25/07 he was advised that is was fixed. When he got in the car and started it there was nothing working on the dash at all and the abs were activated. When he went to the service director dave he agreed that there was something defiantly wrong and it was safe for my husband to leave it the car. 07/26/07 no one could tell me the status I emailed Jeep and this was there response dear christina:thank you for contacting the Chrysler customer assistance center regarding the service problems with your 2006 Jeep Commander. We are very sorry to learn of your dissatisfaction with the handling of your service needs. Intermittent problems are often very difficult for the dealer to duplicate. This may cause delay in diagnosis and repair. Often, there are many components that could produce the same symptoms. Unless the dealer is able to duplicate the problem, he cannot properly diagnose the concern and properly repair your car. We have found that if the customer keeps a log or notes on when the problem does occur, this can assist the dealer in diagnosing the problem. Any specific information you are able to provide relative to when a certain problem appears, will help the dealer to perform prompt diagnosis and repairs. We regret your dissatisfaction and trust you will understand our position. Thank you again for your email. Sincerely, sheila senior staff representative Chrysler customer assistance center.
'06 Jeep Commander 4x2 - (1) stalls intermittently during turns which are both from moving and stopped positions. Many have occurred during a u-turn from a stopped position - unable to duplicate, in shop again (2) has a rough idle, which at times is more severe than others, but has never died - has just shaken severely a few times. There is no set pattern. It occurs during cold and hot weather, with electrical devices on or off, in park/neutral/drive, if the engine has warmed up or is still cold (3) the original windshield - continuous rock chips, cracks, etc - replaced @ 11,000k with a non-Jeep brand glass and to date the new windshield has only 1 star chip. Have heard the design of the windshield is reason for the windshield breaking easily, but the glass is not sufficient/durable (4) transmission fluid leaking from o-rings - replaced (5) rear spring seats squeaking - insulators replaced (6) excessive wind noise from front passenger side - at 22,500k dealership said only normal wind buff, at 24,000k dealership said unsure where it's coming from but will reseal front windshield (7) front driver window made grinding noise - motor replaced (8) short in audio/speaker system - radio assembly replaced (9) front driver power lock motor whining during autolock in cold weather (10) back up sensor doesn't sound until 1' before object (11) alert to check reverse sensor and wouldn't start- towed, battery replaced (12) middle seats hard to fold up (13) front windows go down instead of up(14)vehicle hesitates when put in drive/ reverse (15) steering whines.
