The passenger side mirror and bronzed and has what looks like veins running toward the middle of the mirror. I am not able to see clearly at all from the inside of the Jeep. This is a safety hazard due to the size of the vehicle. I contacted the dealership and the manufacturer. I was told the part was discontinued and not covered by my lifetime warranty. The dealer and body shops have told me they experienced several complaints with this issue. The mirror has defrost and electrical movement. I feel this part is defective and there should be a recall for safety issues. My Jeep only has approximately 69,500 miles and is in excellent condition other than this mirror. The side mirror and not been damaged in any way physically for this to have happened. The glass is smooth and does reflect light, however, I cannot see clearly at all from the driver seat. The bronzing does not allow a reflection in the mirror of what is beside me.

A couple nights ago I started my vehicle and the lights were dim at the dashboard. At the same time the headlights would only turn off when the vehicle was turned off, the turn signals quit working, but the hazards work though, the dome lights didn't work unless lens pushed on but not from turn signal lever and the windshield wipers quit working. This all happened at the same time. I thought maybe a cluster relay was bad. The more I look into it, it may be the tipm is faulty. In the past year I have replaced the battery twice, alternater is good and the vehicle stalled at random times.
While driving at highway speeds the wipers failed to function giving no warning signs (the wipers functioned normally 2 days prior). The wiper switch and "mist function" are both inoperative while the while the windshield washer pump functions normally.

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the third row back seat in the vehicle had became inoperable and unable to come down causing the visibility of the driver to have issues seeing out of the rear window. This was a recurring failure. The vehicle was driven to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that the mechanism that controls the seats was defective and needs to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000. Kc.
1/15 started and drove truck for 20 min. Shut off for 30 min when restarted headlights wipers wiper fluid blinkers cruse controll hazards horn dash lights ect would not work. Was forced to drive home in snow storm stopping to wipe windshield with hand.
Was driving the vehicle first noticed the electric mirrors turned upward and unable to correct. Then the left window went down and moves up or down at random. The electric door locks became inoperative from driver side. The warning gauges started to go off and on and display started to flash different problems with the vehicle. I have had my 2006 Jeep Commander for a year and in that time period I have had a consistent problem. When I am driving the vehicle I will randomly lose power to the instrument panel, windows , windshield wipers and almost everything electrical. The engine will continue to run but if it happens at night I lose interior lights dash lights I can't see how fast I am going due to the panel not working. I have had it to the mechanic and he insists it has something to do with the ignition switch. I know a recall has been issued for a separate ignition problem but after reading online and seeing many other reports just like mine I,believe there is another issue to be handled. This problem is also making it impossible to get the vehicle inspected because when it acts up it cause the check engine light to come on and has to be reset. Then before all sensors have reset it occurs again. I have spent a small fortune is gas trying to get lucky to be able to pass inspection.
In the beginning of December, while driving down the highway at about 58 mph, an oncoming car threw a rock up and chipped our windshield. We had this chip repaired by our insurance company. A week or so later, another rock was thrown up and chipped our windshield again while going around 55 mph. In the beginning of February while leaving our house, about 2 minutes into the drive, our passenger side windshield cracked. (about a 12+ inch crack. ) on our way home that day another rock was thrown and chipped that windshield while going around 55 mph. We contacted the insurance company and had that windshield replaced because it could not be repaired. Now about 3 weeks later, another rock was thrown up and chipped our brand new windshield going 60 mph. I have looked up other Commander reviews and see that this is a common problem with this vehicle. This is a safety concern and quite an inconvenience for Commander owners and something needs to be done.
While driving - usually at night and at all speeds my headlights will flicker like a strobe light and then go off completely, including the interior lights as well indicating my speed, etc. . Sometimes I can use my high beams to at least be able to see, however, even sometimes this does not work. Very, very dangerous to not be able to see or be seen at night in random places on the freeway, in the city, etc. . . . Please someone help - dealer states that they have no clue as to what the problem might be!! another problem, I have been dealing with, is the air conditioner in the vehicle will stop and not blow any air. I took it to the dealership and they stated that they did not have the part to fix my car. On top of that they gave me a piece of my car that apparently fell off, while they were inspecting it??!!?? they told me it was not their fault and that it is a faulty piece called the housing which is part of the inlet housing and that it would cost $1,156. 38 to fix. Unbelievable!.
The front module is corrupt. It causing various electrical issue. Lights, blinkers, radio, speakers, dashboard displays, heating/cooling, are all inoperable. Jeep is claiming that this is not their responsibility. This part is not mechanical. I can understand wear and tear but this issue would be a faulty part not an issue of maintenance or the lack of. Without a recall, I am subject to expense that could end up costing me $1000 to $3000. I find this to be situation where Jeep is taking advantage of their clientele. I have searched multiple forums and found this to be a re-occuring issue in many of Jeeps models. This an injustice and unethical act upon the consumer. This issue has been escalating since 2012.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph the check engine light illuminated, the radio turned off, the sun roof failed, and the majority of the lights on the dashboard began to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and was informed that the front control module would need to be replaced. The contact learned referenced NHTSA campaign id number: 08v059000 (visibility:windshield wiper/washer) and contacted the manufacturer but was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall despite experiencing the same failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 55,000.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that while at a complete stop, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated that the wiring in the starter would have to be replaced. Additionally, the exterior lighting intermittently failed and the front driver side window intermittently failed while being opened or closed. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. Purchased 3/11. 6/11 myself/3 others were lockedâ in the vehicle. Doors wouldn't unlock/open, windows didn't work, wouldn't start. We were held hostage for 5 min when it start up and everything worked. 6/11 exited-left the keys on seat 30 sec later lights inside flickered, doors locked, horn honked. 7/2011 driving down the highway at 70 mph it momentarily shut off for about 3 sec and turned its self-back on. This caused a drastic drop in speed before it restarted. 7/11 drivers side floor mat was very wet from rain entering the truck. 7/11 driving in a rain storm witnessed water coming down the driver's side pillar next to the windshield. 4/12 attempted to start it. Everything worked but wouldn't start 20 min later started right up. This happened 7 times since. 3/14 parked for 2 min wouldn't restart. Had it towed to a shop where they started it right up. They couldn't find anything wrong . Went to pick it up and it wouldn't start. So they started replacing things hoping they could find a problem. New battery-old battery was good, fuses, starter, relays and out of the blue two days later it started up even after attempts after the fixes 5/13 all lights went out, wipers, wiper sprayer, horn, blinkers, dash lights, rear park assist all stopped working. I was forced to drive home in the rain at night with none of these. 4/14 this happened again for about 24 hours. 5/14 this happened again for 5 days. I have called dealerships about recalls and always told no and to bring it in at $100/hour to find the issues. It has been hooked up to code readers 10+ time with no codes. Licensed mechanics who can tell me only what they think it could be, educated guesses. Every day is a guessing game with this Jeep and what it's going to do or when I'm going to get injured due to one of these numerous, chronic, magical issues.
Chrysler has a recall on electrical systems on the 2008 Jeep Commander. The recall details loss of headlights, wipers, blinkers, and for the engine to stall. But they are only covering it on certain vins. Our 2008 Jeep Commander has suddenly experienced all these problems. My husbands head lights went out in the middle of driving in the dark. The wipers quit working, we have no blinkers, and the engine keeps stalling. We called the Chrysler corporation and they refuse to take our Jeep in on the recall, yet acknowledged it had all the signs of the recall, they said it had too many miles. We have three small children and the recall states that it is a serious problem and could cause a crash. So what are we too do know?.
This vehicle has an intermittent electrical issue, periodically all of the dashboard warning lights will flash on and then all of the electrical systems will fail - including the speedometer and other instrument gauges, the turn signals and the other lights, the windshield wipers, the radio, and everything else. Usually everything will reset after the vehicle has been parked, shut down, allowed to "rest" for several hours, and restarted. This event has occurred 8 or 9 times since the original incident. After the most recent incident the radio speakers went down one by one and you can no longer use the radio, however you do sometimes get a loud static sound over the speakers - even though the radio is turned off. I contacted the dealership after the original incident and was told that when this failure event occurs the system would "reset itself" without intervention, and that I would have to pay a diagnostic fee if I brought the vehicle in for testing, so I have been putting up with this ever since. However, now that other related systems are failing permanently I am not willing to put up with it any longer, I am concerned that eventually everything else will fail permanently including the instruments, turn signals, windshield wipers, etc. The consumer sent an e-mail requesting to add additional info. Yesterday, 07/21/2011, this vehicle stalled out twice while in operation while my wife was running errands in normal city traffic. In both cases she was able to steer the vehicle to the side of the road using the vehicle's momentum and was she was able to restart the vehicle a short while later. This is the first time that the complaint issue has actually resulted in the vehicle stalling out while in traffic. It is also the first time that the complaint issue has occurred in such rapid succession - for the last couple of years the frequency has been once every 3 or 4 months, now it is becoming once or twice a week (or in this case, in a day). Unable to add the last few lines of consumers sentence as there is a character limit. 07/22/11.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Commander. The contact stated that the driver's side sun visor was a defective and blocked the visibility of the roadway. As a result, the contact crashed into the rear of another vehicle. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who advised the contact that there was nothing they could do to change the sun visor design. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The sun visor was not replaced. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 200 and the current mileage 63,000.
