I recently had an issue where after driving my vehicle, going into a bank and returning to start my car, the vehicle did not start. I tried repeatedly to start the vehicle but nothing worked. Finally it started again at an auto shop and then turned off and we tried to start it again, but it would not start. The battery was tested as well as the starter. There were no issues with either or the components associated with starting the vehicle. However, after my independent mechanic starting searching for recalls he noticed there was a recall on the front control module and said to call Chrysler. I called and only 1338 vehicles were "qualified" for this part recall. My vehicle is not part of that recall but the issue at hand is the culprit of a defective front control module. Recall id # 71686 - visibility:windshield wiper/washer
summary:
Chrysler is recalling 1,338 my 2008 Jeep grand cherokee and Commander vehicles. The front control module may have been incorrectly manufactured. Consequences:
this could cause the engine to stall while driving or not to start and/or cause the windshield wipers to become inoperative. Engine stalling or inoperative wipers could cause a crash without warning.

Driving my 2008 Jeep Commander on the highway approximately 55mph and the vehicle stalled and the entire electrical system power went out. Had to pull over turn off the vehicle, pull the key out, and restart. Vehicle resumed normal operation. I have experienced many times since I purchased the vehicle in 2008 where my electrical system failed, and one previous occurrence where the engine stalled and the electrical system failed, but on those occurrences the vehicle was not in motion. I have taken it into the dealer on numerous occasions since 2008 and described the problem with feedback from the dealer that there was no recall for my vehicle and that they could not duplicate the symptoms I was experiencing. Investigated on NHTSA. Gov and noticed the issue, campaign id number 08v059000. This campaign almost exactly describes the issue I am experiencing. However it states that they only recalled 1338 vehicles in 2008, and mine was obviously not one of them. The dealer should atleast know of the issue and/or I should be notified by Chrysler, which I was not.
When at or below freezing the windshield wipers will not make contact w/the windshield in certain areas. Medved Chrysler /Jeep replaced the windshield wiper blades, which already was replaced with 3 different types prior to them, it did not change. They then replaced the r/f wiper arm, with no change. I asked if the windshield could be the problem, Chrysler would not replace the windshield. Elite replaced the windshield @ no charge to medved or me. It became even worse!!!! I have seen other Commanders driving towards me w/the same problems in the same area of the windshield. The zone rep for Chrysler even stated "mine does the same thing. "
the obstruction of view directly in front of the driver and passenger is dangerous!! Chrysler "can't see any physical defect" so it is not a problem. The service manager for the castle rock branch of medved was able to see it all happen firsthand. He called chyrsler, and they blew him off as w/the the first time he called them w/ my complaint. I have called Chrysler's 1-800 number and they were less than helpfull, said "it is up to the dealer you took it to to make a decision. They have done all they can; this is a engeniring or windshield manufacturer defect that is dangerous!
this vehicle cannot be driven @ or below freezing w/out the windshield wipers loosing total contact in a circle pattern directly in the drivers and passengers
direct line of vision in front of the vehicle, only changed by pulling over and blasting the windshield w/full heat and full defrost with the wipers on medium/high until the circles are gone. Once driven again the circles start small and become larger the more you drive it even w/full heat and defrost!! the defroster air flow seems good in the center of the windshiedl but lower as it goes out to either side.
