After filling up my 07 Jeep Compass not even as I was pulling out of the parking lot the Jeep started stuttering and shut off . . It happened multiple times until I got home. While accelerating it would act like it wanted to stall . And while coming to a shop it would cut off. I was almost hit because of this . And I had my disabled daughter in the car. I have read multiple complaints about this & something needs to be done .
I purchased vehicle in Feb 2018 for my then 16 year old daughter. Last couple of refuels, vehicle will stall out after leaving gas station. She looses power, steering & braking ability when this occurs. Vehicle will start back up drive along a while then stall out again. This happens several times then will operate normally till next fill-up.
After filling the tank with gas, the vehicle will shut off after about 1/8 of a mile. It will just stall out and lose steering and lights.
Car stalls after refueling. Problem begins a few minutes after filling the tank. I have to sit at the gas station and try keeping it running before leaving, it is not safe in traffic. It only does it after refueling. I am told I need to replace the gas tank to correct the problem. They tell me gas is going back into the charcoal canister messing with the computer. A bad valve in the gas tank, requiring the entire gas tank to be replaced. I have been doing some research on this issue and finding a lot of people having the same issue it is not just a Jeep Compass issue.
Vehicle stalls or will not accelerate, engine runs rough, after filling up tank with gasoline. Problem goes away after several minutes of driving. Creates a dangerous and safety issue. Happens at every time fuel tank is filled. There seems to be many similar complaints on this same issue. Nhtsa should investigate.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that after refueling, the vehicle stalled without warning. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the canister purge valve needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 48,555.
I purchased the 2007 Jeep with low mileage for my child's first car. Upon the first refuel the car has experienced stalling within a hal mile of refueling. The car was returned to the dealer several times, as well as to the neighborning Jeep dealer. Time after time I was advised the issue could not be duplicated. Today upon refueling the car stalled upon leaving the gas station again. There appears to be a significant amount of complaints and research online that I was shocked to learn a recall had not been issued for this extreme safety issue. The stalling occurs at a different time leaving no gas station, at the first moment of idling, after traveling a short distance. This is a safety concern for any driver although extremely so for a newly licensed driver.
Update to complaint. Jeep dealer just called and they are replacing the fuel tank and charcoal canister was told this was a common issue and they had seen it before . The rollover valve in the fuel tank was bad and sticking open allowing fuel to dump into the evap system filling the charcoal canister with gas causing the stall . This is a major safety issue since a faulty valve wont shut off in the event of a crash causing a fire and can also cause a accident from stalling in traffic while in motion and the steering locking up. I have been in the auto repair business for 30 years at a dealership and seen a lot of issues but NHTSA really need to address this problem before someone is killed if they have not already. Jeep Compass stalls after refueling in motion on highway, steering locks up when car stalls and makes Jeep uncontrollable. Had Jeep towed to dealer and they found a bad charcoal canister was "full of fuel" replaced canister drove for one week and refueled managed to go 1 mile and Jeep stalled again at about 45 mph . Got Jeep stopped and restarted managed to get the last 1/2 mile home and it stalled again pulling in drive way and almost ran thru the front of my house before stopping. Extremely unsafe car returning back to the dealer service dept for the 3rd time . After reading online I have found this to be a common issue on the Jeep Compass some resulting in accidents from loss of control. I am finding the rollover valve is bad allowing fuel to be pushed back thru the evap system causing the stall.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Compass. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle however, the failure reoccurred after driving at 35 mph and 55 mph. The contact mentioned that when the vehicle was at a full tank of fuel, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to dealer where the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be cleaned and adjusted, the purge valve, the spark plug, the fuel cap, the air vent filter, and the canister control monitor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The failure mileage was 70,000.

Since about November 2011, my 2007 Jeep Compass has stalled out after refueling when I fill the gas tank. It does not stall out if I do not fill the tank all the way. It has been inspected by two different Chrysler dealerships in 2012 and 2014 and both falsely accused me of overfilling the tank. No one has been able to fix the problem.
2007 Jeep Compass stalls after refueling. This occurs not only then but about three to four more times while driving down the road after refueling. On two occasions this happen while entering back on to the highway, while trying to accelerate up to speed. This forced me to quickly restart the engine so not to be rear ended from behind by other vehicles. I checked with the dealer who told me to call Chrysler and let them know only to find that my vehicle was not on recall. I was told to take my Jeep into the dealer to have it fixed and if it was later recalled they would return my money. I do believe that Chrysler is risking the safety of the general public just because they are not up to speed with recalling all the effected vehicles as they are informed of the defect. If this is the kind of customer service that Chrysler is offering why would anyone want to come back.

Going into left hand turn lane to turn left, coasting, stopped at blinking light to turn proceeded and car stalled. This has happened at least 4 times since the last time being a few weeks ago. I called Chrysler directly and made a complaint. Had to put the car in park in order to restart the vehicle. Everything just locked up. Date is approximate along with mileage.

She was able to immediately restart the vehicle. She went to the dealer to have the vehicle checked, but they stated that the vehicle was fine. The vehicle's computer lost its programming when she stopped to put gas in the vehicle. The contact also stated that the passenger side air bag light illuminated, as if the air bag was not working. The mechanic advised her not to put her purse on the seat because it may cause the air bag sensor to deprogram itself. The current mileage is 17,200 and failure mileage was 17,150.
