Engine Stall problems of the 2007 Jeep Compass

Seven problems related to engine stall have been reported for the 2007 Jeep Compass. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2018

Engine stalls after refilling gas to "full" tank. It happens after tank refill only. It happens within a quarter mile of the gas station. Today it happened while I was in traffic. I searched this issue online and there multiple reports of the same issue for Compasses and patriots. I don't think there is a dependency on speed. It is more likely the time after refilling and starting engine.

2 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2017

Stalls after fill up. We do not top off or overfill the tank. Everytime we fill the tank up to the automatic shut off, the engine stalls within about 30 seconds. Generally, the engine will stall if idling at a stop light after fillup. The engine does not stall if the vehicle is running above 25-30 miles per hour. The engine starts right back up without problem, but will continue to stall. After vehicle has been driven a few miles, the stalling issue disappears entirely.

3 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2015

Engine stall after fueling. After filling tank the engine will stall when in motion on highway was told by dealer there was a design flaw in the evap system purge control valve that allows fuel to enter the charcoal canister if you fill the tank when fueling. When this happens the Jeep will stall when in motion on the highway or city traffic and the steering is non responsive major safety issue Jeep is aware of the problem and has a service bulletin out on it but offers no fix other than do not fill up your tank. This almost resulted in a major accident on interstate 95 on 11/14/2015 this need to be a recall it is not a isolated problem read any google search on line and there are thousand of owners with the same issue trying to find out what I wrong and a fix.

6 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2009

Car engine stalling and impossible to accelerate, took to dealership for a tune up 11//09. Dealer changed couple of plugs but nothing else was needed. 1/10 car towed to dealer. Dashboard lights were acting up, engine started stalling and couldn't accelerate, car simply died in middle of the road. Dealer said it was a bad coil. Asked me if I had washed engine, answer was no. Dealer replaced coil and stated problem was fixed. Car started acting up again. While driving on 1-16 (GA), car would stall, couldn't accelerate, even though pedal was to the car floor. Emergency lights on dashboard acted up, (one of my tires had 10 air pressure, pulled over and tire had 35 air pressure). Same issues than before, I thought car would die in the middle of hwy(7/11/10). Took to dealer 7/14/2010 and contacted Chrysler (was assigned a case). Dealer wanted to charge me $75 to run diagnostics, refused to pay, same issue as before. Dealer ran diagnostics free of charge, however Chrysler states there is no assurance problem will be covered. This is a serious safety issue, my car could die in the middle of hwy with my two kids inside ,cause a serious accident. I paid for the tune up, car was under warranty first time but nothing was said or fixed then. Problem persists and now car is out of warranty, and I need to pay for the repairs? dealer failed to find problem twice before. Chrysler and dealer should be held accountable for putting my life and my kids life in danger. Also held accountable for not repairing an issue that is very common among these cars of the same year. Recall was issued on speed pedal, but mine never received a letter. I feel very unsecure while driving car. Chrysler states dealer and company are acting in good will by running diagnostics for free. They are manufacturer of car, which has serious safety issues. Dealer failed to repair car twice while under warranty. Act is not good will, its their responsibility!.

7 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2008

I own a 2007 Jeep Compass that was purchased new in June of 2006. Beginning in may of this year the car began suffering both low and high speed engine stalls, where the warning 'bell' sounds, all of the dash warning lights come on, and the engine completely shuts down. This car is driven by my college age daughter and represents a major safety hazard to both her and those around her. Most recently this condition occurred on I-85 south of atlanta in a major construction zone while she was going 60 miles an hour. Two weeks ago the opelika Jeep dealership did the 'software upgrade' recommended by a technical service bulletin, but obviously it did not resolve the problem. At the time the dealer could not 'recreate' the problem. The vehicle is currently at a dealership in union city, GA where it was towed. In past failures the car was able to be restarted after remaining turned off for several minutes. With the latest occurrence the car was completely dead and the engine would not start at all. In fact it acted as if the transmission interlock was engaged because turning the key produced absolutely nothing. This car represents a major safety hazard to the driver and those on the road around her.
