Emission Control problems of the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Two problems related to emission control have been reported for the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Emission Control problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2001

Engine check light stays on, but vehicle doesn't show any problems. Dealer has tried several different remedies. Dealer fels fuel vapor canister needs to be replaced. Consumer will add mor information.

2 Emission Control problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2000

On 2 separate occasions engine repeatedly lost power at highway speed. First incident, engine check appeared & dealer replaced oxygen sensor. Second incident (2 weeks later) dealer unable to determine problem & still looking. Has never happened during city driving. Keeping gas tank full appears to eliminate problem, but may be coincidential.
