Four problems related to dash wiring have been reported for the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Jeep dealership cannot find any electrical faults which cause engine to shut off at highway speed. This has occurred two times and reported to NHTSA database. I replaced a brand new factory battery per the dealer recommendation after a full system dianogstic which revealed nothinhg. But only two weeks after the dianostic, I had to replace a daytime running lamp module; and currently the door ajar indicator light is reversed. I think Jeep has major electrical system faults which they are denying from the many complaints I am reading online.
While traveling at approximately 65 mph vehicle stalled without warning. Digital calibration that showed amount of fuel in vehicle was off. Gas guage dash (non-digital) showed that there was fuel in vehicle when engine stalled due to no gas in vehicle.
Latest failure is the heater blower motor block connector, this item shorted out causing the smell of burning in the vehicle. Automotive technician at the repair facility stated that they have seen this in other Jeep vehicles. He stated the problem is the connector goes from a 14ga wire on the front side(hot) to a 12ga wire to the components of the vehicle. Jeep has stated they cannot tell if the short is a manufacture related problem, and comments by service managers lead me to believe they lean toward it being a customer problem. Customer/technican assistance at the corprate level will not even investigate/inspect unless there is a flame noted, seems a little late to me!.
Instrument cluster goes dead either stopped or moving. All guages and lights on the instrument panel go dead. Function returns within a short time.
