I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and recently my band in my transmission broke, so I have no 2nd gear. I brought it to a transmission shop and they told me it happens very often on the make and year of my vehicle. It would be an $1800. 00 to $3000. 00 fix. As of right now my car wont shift until it reaches 5000 rpm's, since I don't have the money to fix. I was just wondering if it has happened alot on this make and model car if it would be a recall.
The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While the vehicle was parked in the driveway and when the door was opened, the vehicle shifted out of park and began to roll backwards. The door stopped the vehicle from rolling too far. Both the front fender and driver's side door were damaged. The manufacturer and dealer had not been notified. The current and failure mileages were approximately 100,000.
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee heat not working - a common complaint of many Jeep owners seeking to file a class-action lawsuit against daimler Chrysler Jeep. $900 + is beyond absurd to pay to fix this common problem that Jeep should have recalled and fixed for free.
I have a 2000 Jeep gc laredo, and along with many, many other people I have numerous problems. The warped rotors are very dangerous when you have to use your brakes, especially when you have children in the car as I do, also the taillight/brake light issue, that has gotten me pulled over more than once, even though I put a new bulb in it every time. The door lock actuator that is very annoying not to mention my transmission has a shifting problem that I can't do anything about and now my radiator fan will not work so my car will overheat if I am stopped for too long.
Our Jeep Grand Cherokee has a transmission selector (automatic) that has slipped so that there is no park. Park now operates as reverse, reverse as neutral, neutral as drive etc. There is no longer a way to reach 1st gear and the car will roll when it is in park. The car is in the daimler Chrysler shop now and nothing was done to cause this extremely dangerous failure.
On Sunday September 4, 2005 while returning from a 220 mile trip the radiator fan on our 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee fractured and separated, causing rupture of radiator, coolant loss and rapid overheating. The vehicle was towed to firestone auto repair where the radiator, fan and shroud assembly were replaced. The vehicle was picked up on September 7, 2005. It became apparent when leaving firestone that the transmission had suffered damage as a result of the overheating. The vehicle was taken to panhandle transmission where a rebuilt transmission was installed. A recall notice was issued by daimler-Chrysler in October 2006. Invoices, credit card statements and canceled check was submitted to daimler Chrysler as proof of defect and subsequent damage repair. Daimler-Chrysler reimbursed the cost of the fan, radiator and shroud replacement on November 16, 2006 in the amount of $1003. 89 but no reimbursement for the damage caused to the transmission ($1350. 00) due to radiator failure and rapid overheating of the transmission coolant system.
Vehicle rolls forward when put into park. Taken to dealer for checkup, and results show that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the consumer stated that he thinks the part was defective.
My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee has had a heater problem. It gets so hot that it can burn my fingers. Then all of a sudden on the passenger side the heat doesn't work it only blows cold air through the vent and on the floor. Also in the trasnmission when you come to a stop you can sometimes feel a loud thump like someone just rear ended you. It happens about 3-4 times a week.
Brandow Chrysler notified me that 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee transmission requires replacement. The vehicle has 56,000 miles and has properly maintained. Upon review of similar issues from other 1999/2000 Jeep owners with transmission problems, I am filing this complaint due to lack of notice by brandow or daimler Chrysler regarding transmission issues with this vehicle.
When coming to a stop, at about 7-10 mph, the transmission shifts down hard, causing a bump stop and the car to quickly decrease in speed. This is an intermittant problem. Dealer found nothing and recommended transmission service which did not help. Date listed is last time event occurred.
While driving at any speed consumer experienced transmission problems, especially shifting from second gear to third gear. On one occasion vehicle stalled due to the gears not shifting properly. This problem happened every day since ownership of the vehicle.
I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. In early December I was driving the vehicle when my engine light illuminated. I immediately called my mechanic, who happens to work for midas. He told me to bring it in right away. Because I live closer to midas than any Jeep dealer, and because of the service I have received in the past from Jeep/Chrysler, I took it to my mechanic. He advised me I had a blown head gasket. I received an estimate from him and he also advised me that the dealership would be considerably more expensive, I allowed him to repair the vehicle. After the repairs were complete, I talked to my mechanic and he advised me to contact Chrysler/Jeep and ask for reimbursement. Here in lies the complaint. When I contacted the dealership, bob dance Jeep in oralndo, I was told there was nothing they could do to help because it was my fault I drove the vehicle "hot". I explained the reasons I took it to my mechanic as opposed to the dealer and I was told so sorry. I then try to contact the warranty people for the vehicle. I was told I only had a 3year 36,000 mile warranty and that I wasn't able to do anything about it. The vehicle had 49,000 miles at the time of repair. I asked if I would be allowed to purchase an extended warranty and was rudely told no. This is only one example of the customer service I have received since purchasing this vehicle in July 2000. I have also replaced the transmission, two bateries, repaired the window which did not work and had the rotors cut three time. When I spoke to Chrysler headquarters, I was not surprised to receive the same response. I was told because the work was done by an independent garage, midas, I was not entitled to any type of reimbursement, period. I don"t trust Jeep/Chrysler. I don't want them working on my vehicle. Someone please help me!!.
Vehicle rolled backwards on slight incline. Car was not running. Checked and made sure vehicle was in park. It was. Started the vehicle and drove back up incline. Vehicle rolled back down while running. Drove straight to a spitzer Jeep dealership. Put vehicle on larger incline. Vehicle would not roll. Service person, dan, told me to keep an eye on it and bring it back if it did it again.
I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee loredo. Currently I am experiencing severe transmission problems. Everyone I know who owns a Jeep Grand Cherokee is experiencing the same problems with their transmission. My car currently has about 88,000 miles. I have also had to replace 3 of the lock latches within six months. The automatic locks just brake for no reason and are very expensive to be replaced.
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 4. 7l 4x4. Intermittent delayed engagement of gears when accelerating. Makes roaring noise as engine increases rpm without generating torque. Happens most between 20 and 50 mph. Also, quadra-trak ii 4 wd no longer provides noticeable power to the front wheels. Rear wheels keep spinning. Dealers say everything (pumps, fluids, etc. ) checks out, but formerly outstanding 4wd performance is embarrassing at best.
Consumer had to use excessive force when putting the gear shifter into park, there was an owners notification reference #11022208 for the problem. The consumer was unable to remove the key. Scc.
While traveling about 65mph on the highway without prior warning . The transmission froze up and the vehicle shut down please provide additional information dealer is aware of the problem. Ts.
2000 Grand Cherokee jumps out of park in to reverse and accelerated injuring one.
Transmission jumps while foot on brake.
Brakes - rotors warp about every 9 to 12,000 miles. The rotors have been turned 3 times and are now in need again. Transmission - the overdrive slips as it engages. Tachometer shows the engine speed increasing as the od engages, than drops as it finally fully engages.
1. Transmission: having problems shifting from 2nd gear to 3rd gear until car is fully warmed; occasionally, the car stalled due to the gear not shifting properly; 2. Brake rotors: rotors warp within 12,000 miles; changed new rotors and pads three times; 3. Alignment: pulls to the right summary: transmission & brake rotors are known problems by dailerchrysler---unsafe vehicle.
My jgc has had off and on problems since I bought it virtually. Not being a particularly complaint oriented person, I at first attributed the transmission problem on this truck to the fact that I had never owned a 4wd vehicle before. From the outset this truck shuddered when in a tight turn, either direction. During the first winter ii owned it, I left it in my driveway in park only to come out later to find it at the end of my drive. This happened a number of times, once stopping only because it stopped up against my wife's car. I thought I was crazy at first--now I won't leave this vehicle on a flat surface without the emergency brake on. Recently, the truck developed a huge, and frightening "clunk" between 2nd and 3rd gear I believe. Again, I did not make much of this until the "check engine" light came on more or less permanently. The truck will no longer shift into appropriate gear, has poor acceleration and worsening gas milage, and runs at erratic at best rpms. I have taken it too the dealer who on the first visit told me they couldn't reproduce the problem and told me to bring it back when it happened again. It happened again on the way out the lot. I took the truck back about a week later and was told it would cost about $250 to diagnose the problem. A week later, I took it back to the dealer, angry that I had found my exact problem on a technical service bulliten from Chrysler itself. The dealer althogh very nice basically told me I would have to pay to have the transmission replaced at a cost of some (at least) $3,000. 00. I am taking the car back next week to have the dealer tear down the transmission, after having attempted to speak to the district manager, who mysteriously disappearred upon my arrival. Having read now virtually identical complaints to mine on this internet sight, I am now torn between letting them repair it to what seems like no avail , filing a lawsuit, or trading the vehicle in and losing a ton of money. Thank you for your time.
Transmission will not shift into park. When you shift into park, then release the shifter, the shifter moves backward into park. Very dangerous. Thank you.

Consumer's wife was driving a leased grand, cherokee, at approximately 5 miles. Brought it back, and parked it in driveway, took foot off brake, and automobile immediately took off . It went straight through consumer's garage, hitting other car that was parked in garage, causing damage to it before coming to a holt.
This Jeep has numerous problems and has been to the dealership for service 4 time and they have failed to repair even 1 of our complaints. All complaints other than the pull to the right have been dismissed with the explanation of can not duplicate. They have tried to repair the pull to the right but it only got worse. We were told by a repair tech. That it needed a new part to correct the pulling to the right but Chrysler has failed to install this needed part. We have requested a repurchase of the Jeep under the lemon law but Chrysler denied our request stating that the pull to the right is due to "road crown" and if you hold the steering wheel with a strong to medium grip you don't notice the pull to the right! we have this in writing from the arbitrator that Chrysler hired. The dealership and Chrysler attempted to conceal some service repair forms that had the loose rear hatch problem and the pull to the right. Chrysler stated in letters to the attorney general that we had never brought the rear hatch alarm to the attention of the dealership which was disproved at arbitration but we still never received a copy of the repair sheet even though the dealership has it and provided a copy to the arbitrator. We have parked this Jeep due to the increasing severity of problems. We think this Jeep is dangerous due to it's numerous defects. We refuse to let anyone ride in the back for months due to the rear hatch (which the district manager for Chrysler found was loose at the arbitration hearing by pushing on the bumper and hatch.
Transmission shifts very roughly between 1-2 and 2-3 gears. The vehicle was taken to the dealer twice but no solution was found.
Note: rental car. Parked vehicle after backing up moderately inclined driveway. Set transmission in park. Did not set parking brake nor chock wheels. Vehicle was stable for several minutes (brought one child into house) but then began to roll down hill. Was not slipping on pavement; was not driving engine (as with standard shift. ) could not stop vehicle by holding back. Transmission was still in park, not dislodged (confirmed this fact). Pulled parking brake and vehicle stopped (no harm no foul. ) but did not expect vehicle with automatic transmission set in park to be mobile at all. Did report this to rental agent when returning vehicle.
Intermitant, increasingly frequent, unexpected down-shifting and up-shifting at different speeds with associated transmission jerks and bangs of varying but severe intensity. Dealer admits cannot repair vehicle after 5 attempts in last 11 months inspite of ongoing contact with manufacturer and replacement of all associated electrical and computer components. Dealer admits vehicle is unsafe and will not release it. Vehicle has been out of service for 37 days, including 21 days as of this writing since last return.
Brake rotors are problem not corrected by dealers, transmisson same, unsafe vehicle.
Transmission will automatically with gear while driving. The transmission started jerking between gears 1-2 and 4-3. The sunfoof screeches when closing. The fuel chime light comes on at quarter tank. The overhead computer reads inaccurately.
Vehicle has an intermittent shifting problems. When slowing down, vehicle will jerk as it searches for gears. Also, it shifts down one gear lower than it should. Dealer has inspected vehicle 4 times, and could not find cause.
The speed control will not hold a consistant speed, it will slowly drop in speed on level ground, down hill, and up hill. When the speed drops to a certain level the transmission will shift to a lower gear and then founder some more. The dealership doesn't seem to be able to find anything wrong with the unit from their computer checking. I have been to the dealership 4 times with no luck.

Vehicle was placed in the park position. Then, consumer shifted gear from park to reverse, backed up about a few inches, and vehicle suddenly accelerated more than half a block in reverse, crashing into an apartment building. Vehicle was totaled. Please provide any further details.
