The rotors and pads were damaged from over heating. This sounds like a problem that a lot of others has had. I feel this is a very big safety problem and should be looked into. I do not feel brakes should fail in this short of time. Thank you for your help.
Consumer stated when the brakes are applied, there is a severe vibration, the dealer replaced the front pads and rotors.
Car with about 10k miles has braking problem. At over 50 mph, steering shimmies and shakes. Difficult to brake. Dealer says rotors need to be replaced. Rotors are not available, on backorder. Other Jeeps having same problem? dealer expects me to pick up cost of over $400. Seems like a mfg. Defect on a relatively new car. Must drive in current condition until brake rotors are deliver. Dangerous situation.
There was pulsation when applying the brakes at high and low speeds. Dealer replaced front pads and matched mounted rotors.
There is a defect in the brake pads/rotors. The front brake pads/rotors have been replaced two times, mileage 11,467 and 18,466. The second replacement the service department put on a new updated pad that was supposed to solve the problem. Not quite. Presently the car is in the service department getting all 4 rotors grinded down. I am currently fighting for warranty coverage. I have been through the arbitration process; I was told it hadn't been serviced enough times for this problem. Daimlerchrysler is well aware of this problem, where's the recall for this major safety defect???.
Consumer states while driving he noticed a significant vibration when braking, upon calling dealership and checking warranty consumer found that brakes were warranted for 12000 miles, front brake pads and front rotors were replaced.
There is rapid vibration in front cab part of vehicle when applying brakes at over 40 mph. Contacted dealer.
Consumer states steering wheel vibrates violently while braking at various speeds, front rotors were replaced twice and turned twice, dealership states they will not fix problem again, consumer was told by dealer that they see this problem with this type of vehicle everyday.
High pulsating in brakes, only warr. 12,000 miles, should have recall, very unsafe, had rotors turned and new pads, same problem starting again, I have not found a 2000 grand chreokee owner that has over 12,000 miles on it that has not had the same problem.
Exact problem as described in service bulletin number 050100a. This is likely to recur!. No safety defect mentioned.
Last year vehicle was taken in for a shimmy. When traveling over 50 mph the vehicle shakes very badly. Took to a mechanic and they replaced rotors and brake pads. Six thousand miles late, vehicle started to shake just a little. Took back to dealer and they couldn't duplicate the problem. Every 15 to 20 miles rotor need changing. Consumer feels its very unsafe.
Brake rotors and pad have to be replaced every 25000 miles. Brakes pedal goes all the way to the floor. Dealership is aware of problem.
Leased vehicle on 7/10/02. Brakes began to pulse and pull to right on application at about 6000 miles. Dealer machined front rotors and replaced pads under warranty at 7897 miles. Same situation at 20000 miles. Dealer turned front rotors at 24767 miles and called it "courtesy". Said warranty on brakes, rotors only 12000mi. Service manager advised this is common problem on 99-00 Jeeps and he spends much time turning rotors on Jeep vehicles. Even had to buy special machine to turn rotors in place on vehicle. Says some get so bad they can't be controlled on brake application. He says problem is bad rotors from supplier to daimler-Chrysler. Now at 33000 miles, this vehicle again has failed brake rotors and is rapidly becoming unsafe for my family's transportation. Judging from the number of complaints on your website and on the number of websites devoted to this defect, I would think you have enough information to force a recall. Or are injuries necessary to initiate action? I expect your agency to get and keep this type of junk off the road. It might be acceptable for daimler in germany but not here!.
Steering column had vibration that has been getting progressively worse. Took vehicle to a dealership that examined vehicle. Dealership determined that rotors were warped and had to be resurfaced. Also, pads had to be replaced.
Please help me I bough a new car from these dealer and I am having problems with the front end. I bought these car in July of 2000 and the brake pads/rotors have been replace 3 times already the first time was on December 2000, the second time was on June 2001 and the third time now was November 2001. The third time I had to pay because my car was over the 12,000 thousand mile warranty. We spoke to the general manager of the dealer and we got no help, he refer us to the manager of the service departmment who was no help either, I just send a letter to the company in michigan because we really think is not fair, we being given the run around by everyone, we believe that our car has a brake/rotors factory defect but we don't really know how to go about getting help. Besides the last time I took the car to get the rotors replaced the dealer reported to me that something was leaking from the front vehicle and that the inner diferential axles needed to be seals, is these normal on a new car we are mainly concern about the brake/pads rotors and because we have children we do not know if these could be a safety issue. Thank you so much for your help. Sincerely, the lorenzi family.
Rear disc brakes on the vehicle were defective from date of purchase which is why I had the accident described in the previous section. When I asked my dealership to check the brakes numerous times before and after the accident nothing was done by my dealership. They finally installed new rear disc breaks on 3/26/2001 when I complained one more time that there was vibration in the steering wheel and the whole car while braking. From the time frame given it looks like my dealership was trying to charge me for new rear brakes after the warranty on them expired but I held my ground and got it fixed for free. If the brakes were in normal condition, I would have avoided the accident that I was in and wouldn't have had $5000 of damage to my vehicle. I have all of the paperwork to prove my point.
When putting on brakes, front end would shimmy and vibrate. Took to dealer and they changed rotors/ resurfaced rear rotors, and replaced shoes. Dealer keeps replacing defect with same fix, and problem keeps reoccurring. . The brakes fail every 10,000 miles. First two brake jobs were replaced under warranty. Consumer refused to pay for the third brake job. Dealer resurfaced rotors for free.
This is the 2nd time for the brakes shuttering. Also, always pulls to right.
When applying brakes front end vibrates. Had not contacted dealer. Please add VIN.
Letter sent to dealer and manufacturer after second repair completed indicating my concern about having two front brake warp problems in less than 18000 miles. I indicated I was going to submit a letter of concern to NHTSA. Currently have a good customer relationship with the dealer.
There are alot of problems with this Jeep all witch I have proof of repairs, cam shaft, tires, brakes, alignment and humming at 65 mph.
The brake rotors had to be resurfaced at approximately 9,000 miles, while under a 12/12 warranty. These rotors had to be resurfaced again at 22283 miles, at a cost of $259. 00 because the brakes were surging upon application at low speeds.
While driving at any speed and applying brakes vehicle will experience a "bounce" in front wheels, and stopping distance increased due to poor performance of the braking system. Dealership has examined the vehicle three times for this problem ,and replaced the brake pads and rotors. These repairs have failed to remedy the problem. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
After owning this vehicle for just over 19 months, we have had to have the main computer replaced as well as new front brake rotors 2 times. The first time we had to replace the rotors we had owned the car for a little over a year. Now, the second time we're replacing the rotors after only 7 months. The brake rotors warp and cause sever "shimmying" while braking, this leads to less control of the vehicle and delayed stopping. This problem causes a hazard to both the passengers of the defective vehicle and to those driving around it. These vehicles need to be recalled and the defect needs to be corrected right. Thank you for your time and your help.
When braking a vibration is felt in the pedal. This first occurred at approximately 8,000 miles. The brake disc was turned and new pads installed under waranty. The same problem occurred at approximately 16,000 miles. Daimler Chrysler is now saying this is not a waranty item because the vehicle has over 12,000 miles. There is an obvious defect with the front brakes. The solution is not to keep turning the disks and installing new pads. After 3 turns the disks will have to be replaced and this will likely happen after the vehicle is passed the 3 year 36,000 mile warranty period.
Rear differential: complete lockup at 55 mph !!! as I traveled down a county hwy to just outside of town after work. Almost killed 2 pedestrians as the back end skidded 100 ft in complete lockup, dealer replacing the rear axle and looking at the front differential since it seems to have problems caused by this sudden failure of the back. Brakes: I have had rotors turned 3 times (twice by dealer under warranty and once by independent shop) and since purchased complete new rotors and pads on all 4 tires work by midas due to severe pulsation when braking. I have noticed lots of complaints for exactly the same thing on internet. Jay laszewski dt.
Rotors warp while consumer is driving, causing brake pads to heat up. Then when going through water pads quickly cool down. This has occurred on his 1998, grand, cherokee. Notified dealer.
I have talked with several people who have had the same problem. They have had to get the front rotors ground because the rotors cause a terrible vibration when we push down on the brakes. Dt.
Front brake rotors warped at 9,000 miles, resurfaced, warped again by 18,000 miles, rotors and pads replaced. Warped again by 23,000 miles, dealer refused to fix. Warp caused pulsation and steering wheel wobble.
Continual problem with brakes. Warped rotors, numerous pad replacement, problem causes severe vibration when braking, and causes vehicle to jerk. Also now is shifting after coming to a stop while in drive, feels like vehicle has been hit in rear.
Help, is there anybody out there that cares about vehicle safety regarding Jeep Grand Cherokee's warped rotors/brake pads? recall, recall, recall!!!!.
When applying brakes, steering wheel vibrates, causing almost loss of control.
The problem I've been having with my Jeep is that the brakes shake violently when slowing from speeds in excess of 40 mph. The rotors have been replaced once before, and will probably have to be replaced again (when I can get the car to the dealer to get it done). After reading through the list of complaints and seeing this one on there 20+ times, I kind of feel like there should be some sort of recall on the vehicle.
I have had the vehicle in to the shop once at 12,000 miles because every time I put on the brakes above 45 mph the truck would shudder drastically. They turned the rotors and it was fine for 3ooo or 4ooo more but it has continued again. I actually got a note left on my windshield giving me you web address from another Jeep owner regarding their same complaint. It seems to be a defect in the metal used for the braking system if I have to take it in every 4k miles. God forbid that they should ever completely fail.
Rotors and brake disc fail at 60-70 mph. Upon pressing on brakes vehicle vibrates erratically, like it is going to crash. Please provide any further information.
