Brake Disc Rotor problems of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee - part 2

Defective brakes on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Severe vibration of steering wheel and vehicle when braking. Occurred at 10,721 miles, 36760 miles, and now at 57,000 miles. Fixed by Chrysler first 2 times, refused to fix the 3rd time. Dealer says 4/5 complaints per week for 2000-2004 Grand Cherokees. Rotors keep warping due to bad metalurgy [per service manager. Vibrates so hard it will take the wheel out of your hands if not holding tight.

I have had the brakes fixed on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3 times. The steering wheel shakes and vibrates uncontrollably when the brakes are applied at any speed. It is hard to control the car, especially on the interstate. I have a real concern for my safety and my passengers safety. I went to get them fixed for the fourth time, with only 20,000 miles on the car, and I was told I had to pay for it, since my warranty had just expired 3 months prior. This problem really should be recalled. And Chrysler is not very nice about any situation like this. They don't care how inconvenienced you are. They never offer you a car, while yours is suppose to be "being fixed. " I only wish it was fixed. No more Jeeps for me. It's a lemon!!.

I had a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with about 35,000 miles on it. In the course of my ownership (about 3 years) I had the brakes worked on at least 3 times. The first time they replaced the rotors, the second time they replaced the rotors and the calipers. The 3rd time (after the warranty period) they replaced something else and then had the gall to charge me for it. Fixing brakes at a rate of about every 12,000 miles is absolutely outrageous. I can't believe this vehicle has not been recalled to actually correct the problem. It is a serious problem that can cause loss of control of the vehicle.

We experienced extreme pulsing and jerking while applying our brakes. This problem manifested at about 10,000 miles. We had the problem repaired (dealer said the rotors were warped). This problem is now occurring aging at 20,000 miles. The pulsing is extreme and we are not confident in the safety of our brakes. We are now forced to pay again to have this repaired. Jeep issued a TSB but not a recall - this is a very common problem and directly relates to the safety of their vehicle. They should issue a recall and fix the problem for everyone. A class action lawsuit has been filed as this problem is so prevalent yet Jeep refuses to take responsibility.

My 2000 grand has had the rotors replaced or resurfaced 3 times under warranty and twice at my expense. Brakes make it almost impossible to stop the car at speeds over 55 mph. Unsafe to drive. Dealer claims that the problem was fixed for the 2004 models. Why did it take them 4 years to fix this type of safety problem?.

Defective brakes on a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The dealer replaced the brake rotor's once before the warranty was up. But the rotor's are warped again and the car only has 25,000 miles on it. Surely, there is a problem with this design which could lead to a reall problem when the care is being driven on a freeway? I have replaced the brake rotors on the rear of the vehicle myself but now the front rotors seem to be warped also. With only 25,000 miles on the vehicle this is really a problem.

Bought 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee new. Now has 57000 miles on it. Two main problems now exist: 1. I had to have brakes replaced after 25000 miles. They now need replaced again. Extreme vehicle shaking and vibration thru the steering wheel. Appears to be common prob experienced by many based on the volume of complaints I am seeing. Dealer will not assist. Chrysler rep will not assist. 2. Experienced low oil pressure reading. Took car in for analysis and they tell me engine needs replaced. Gunk buildup in engine they say is cause of problem. Oil has been changed regularly. I cannot prove record of all oil changes, but it has been changed at reputable service centers. Engine $5600. Chrysler district unwilling to assist. I am frustrated at their lack of communication, attitudes, and lack of quality in this vehicle. They try to make you feel like a common criminal and are unwilling to stand behind their product. This vehicle cost about $35,000 and it is far from being worth the value.

Warped brake rotors. Three sets of warped front brake rotors in less than 36000 miles. Vehicle has severe front end movement and steering wheel shake when brakes are applied at speeds greater than 50 mph. It is unsafe to operate on the interstate because of the rotor warpage. Jeep wants over $400. 00 dollars to install the latest TSB to correct defective rotors but will only guarantee for 90 days. If ever there was a need for a safety recall, this is it. Jeep should install their latest TSB (hopefully it is a true fix for the design/defective rotors) and be held accountable that it has corrected the problem with the Grand Cherokee braking system.

While braking brake rotors caused vehicle to shimmy/ vibrate. Dealership repaired the rotors five times, but problem recurred.

I have a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and when braking at speeds ranging from 30mph (city driving) to 50mph(highway driving) the brakes started pulsatiing and the steering wheel started shuddering violently. This has happen to my SUV twrice before around six months after I purchased the vehicle. The first time it happen I wasn't aware of how to obtain this info and I paid for repairment(learning curve). The second time the problem reoccurred I found NHTSA and the proper TSB, armed with that documentation I went back to same dealer they said they fixed the problem at no charge TSB bulleton help alot, well as god be my witness it is happening again as of right now. I went back to the same dealer with documentations (history of same repairs) they want to charge me to get it repaired. I told them I wasn't paying jack I didn't pay on the second time it happen why now, anywhy I told the service advisor that I want it in writting that they are not going to honor the TSB as far as no charge to me the client. I feel why should I be liabiel for their design flaw.

While driving at 50 mph and applying brakes to slowdown there was vibration in the steering wheel. Dealer inspected vehicle several times, but could not duplicate or correct the problem.

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee has had its rotors resurfaced oor replace four times in less than 50,000 miles. An obvious defect that DC has acknowledged with a service bulliten,but no recall. Warped rotrs are a serious safety/handling/stopping issue at hwy speeds. Please force a recall.

I bought my Jeep 6 months ago. It now has 79000 miles and I have no clue how many times the previous owner changed the rotors. I also have the problem of a vibrating uncontrollably wheel when I start to break at 30 mph or over. I guess I will have to change my front rotors and then deal with it again in 20,000 miles. I find this to be ridiculous.

The 1999-2000 (at least) model years of the Jeep Grand Cherokee have a softer metal used in the brakes. This causes the driver to have the sensation that the vehicle will not stop in time to avoid a collision. I experience this myself. The brakes wear unevenly and also cause the vehicle to lope or buggy when stopping. My vehicle was in for a major service yesterday and I asked the service department personnel to check on the status of any type of a recall. A factory rep was present at that dealership at the time and was asked about this situation and they were advised by the rep that there would be no type of recall at all. When the service department personnel stated to the rep that he/she was aware that this needed to be fixed, this person's response was "no I don't".

The car shakes violently when stopping forom hig h speeds this can be very dangerous to all drivers. The dealer says it is bad rotors and Jeep is aware of the problems and refuses to correct it. The rotors were replaced before it had 12,000 miles and have been turned several other times. Brake pads wear out as quickly as we can get them on. Now on 10-23-03, we took the Jeep into a local service shop for an oil change and tire rotation. They informed us that the rotors need replacing again and all four wheels need pads. They told us that there is a service bulletin from Jeep about this problem. They said they called the local Jeep dealership and were told that there is a kit available to fix the rotor and brake problems. The kit to fix the problem will cost us $470. 00. We feel that this brake problem is Jeep's fault through having a poorly designed braking system. The complaints about the Jeep's brakes and rotors started from the first day someone purchased a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. We feel that we should not have to pay for the kit. Jeep should make the kit free of charge due to their knowing this problem existed from day one. We have already put enough money into trying to fix this braking defect. I contacted the Jeep hotline today and they said that the cost would be ours. It was not a recall, just a service bulletin about the kit. Jeep needs to step up to the plate and do the right thing or NHTSA should get off their hands on this matter and order Jeep to do a recall and install the kits. This is not a new situation and NHTSA needs to step in, these are the brakes of our car. Do we have to die before something is done.

Recently purchased 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. The brake rotors were warped, and paid to have them resurfaced. The rotors immediately warped again, and I had another shop replace them with oem rotors. The vehicle still exhibits unsafe behavior under even moderate braking conditions, and I have no money left for rotor repairs. I now find myself avoiding braking (ridiculous I know) in order to escape the noise and vehicle shaking. Dealership states it's a common recurring problem, but Chrysler will not recall. The brake rotors had to be replaced the first time at 12000 miles. Vehicle has been to the repair shop three times. Thereafter, every 10,000 miles the rotors had to be replaced. Consumer stated the rotors will not hold up under normal driving conditions. While driving, there is a strong vibration upon stopping the vehicle.

I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. Every 5000-7000 miles, a serious vibration arises when breaking at speeds greater than 50 mph. I have had the problem serviced 6 separate times over the past two years. The car only has 54,000 miles on the speedometer. All brake rotors and calipers have been replaced (more than once), but the problem keeps recurring. Jeep representatives no longer want to deal with or repair the problem.

Both front and rear rotors have excessive run out. Excessive rotor thickness variation generated by pool caliper centering causing steering wheel shake. Brakes were repaired 12/26/2000 at 11,579 miles and again at 21,915 miles on June 13, 2002. Took it in again July with 30,700 miles and was told it was out of warranty and too bad. I had been assured from the beginning that Chrysler knew of the problem and would stand behind their car until it was satisfactorily repaired. Dt: there is a shimmy when braking and it is worse when going over 40 mph. This causes the rotors to warp and the bake pads to wear out faster. The manufacturer recomendes that the brake calipers be replaced with after market calipers.

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4 v6. The steering wheel and brake pedal would pulsate horribly and shake when applying the brakes. This problem was due to the front rotors which were not covered under warranty eventhough there are 2 technical bulletins from Jeep covering this problem. (2) dealer informed me after fixing my brakes that the the rear differential has a high-pitched axle. This is caused by a faulty rear differential which needs to be redone. Complaint investigator, I purchased a used 2000 Jeep cherokee laredo in August of 2002. At the time of purchase, the brakes were pulsing badly and the dealer turned the rotors. In less than 12 months and less than 10,000 miles the rotors are once again pulsing very badly. Since I purchased this vehicle, I have learned that this model has brake issues. Does Chrysler corp. Have a solution for this? I heard that Chrysler will replace the brakes because the factory rotors are inadequate for the vehicle under some type of customer satisfaction effort but will only offer this of the customer complains vigoursly. Any additional informatuion that you could supply would be of great assistance to me while I attempt to resolve this problem. Fyi - I purchased an extended warranty when I purchased the vehicle but rotors are a "normal wear" item. I would agree with this statement if the factory rotors originally supplied on the vehicle were "normal" and the factory brakes were adequate for the vehicle. In my opinion, the factory supplied brakes should be covered under some type of defects in materials or workmanship. My research has uncovered that the rotors are too small for the weight of the vehicle. No one has died from this thank goodness but I believe that the consumers who have purchased these vehicles have been damaged and should have some type of recourse in this matter. I have to replace the rotors on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee a 2nd time. The 1st time was at 12,000 miles. They at 35,000 miles they went bad again. Jeep told me they were out of warranty at 12,000.

Rotor vibration issue with my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 4wd. Very bad and Jeep will not deal with it due to mileages and because only is service bulletin and not a recall item. At 17,000 miles reported issues; but the service techs. Failed to inform me and also to do the brake replacement kit recomended by the service bulletin. Now they will not fit the rotors dues to the mileage issue. Even with worn brakes I have never had vibration issue like this and frankly its a safety issue!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at this point.

Steering wheel shakes when braking from 50-60 mph speed. Rotors are warped for the second time in 2 years. Advised to replace front brakes and repair rotors. Advised by technician at Jeep dealership that numerous problems with this exact issue from 1999 to 2002 Jeeps. Definite safety issue as steering wheel will begin to shake uncontrollably.
