Bought this 2000 Grand Cherokee limited and while driving it at 55 mph, it lost power for about 5 seconds and then regained power. The next day it stalled at a stop sign but was able to restart after several tries. Was driving a couple days later and while slowing down for another stop sign the vehicle stalled and was luckily able to get to the side of the road out of traffic. Today the vehicle stalled again today approaching a red light and thankfully was able to get it to the median out of traffic. After reading post onlines, this seems like a known and common issue with the Jeeps with stalling which occurs at both low and high speeds which can be dangerous if it stalls and no steering or braking abilities. A recall needs to be done since Jeep dealership can't answer to the true issue. Replaced fuel pump and filter with no success.
For going on 2 months now my car has stalled at the most inconvenient times. Turning into gas stations, stopping at stop lights, driving on busy streets going up to 50mph. Usually I can just pop it into neutral and restart it but as of late, it won't turn back over until I replace the ignition fuse. I have replaced that fuse twice now, replaced the map sensor, replaced the fuel filter, yet nothing has offered a permanent solution to this problem. As you can clearly tell, this is a very dangerous problem to be having and by reading through these complaints I see I am far from alone. Not to mention the cost associated with having to replace all of these parts (per advice from mechanics) while getting nowhere. Please fix this or figure out what is causing it before someone gets seriously injured or worse. I'd also like to note my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited was having this same problem before I junked it.
Vehicle stalls after reaching operating temperature while negotiating traffic or driving, regardless of conditions or driving habits, at highway speeds or in a parking lot. Has stalled numerous times at worst possible times. No codes. No warning: in traffic. At stop lights. Pulling into gas stations. Etc. . . Extremely dangerous!!!!! date submitted is the last time it happened. It has happened at least 10 times just this year. Looked on many Jeep forums and seems to be a recurring problem!!! (see for yourself). Please help!!!!.
Sudden stalling while driving or at idle. Applicable at all speeds from idle to freeway speeds. Sometimes the vehicle will restart and other times it will not restart right away. Sometimes it will restart if the vehicle sits for about 15 minutes and other times it has left me stranded for three hours or more. I have stalled in the middle of busy intersections and freeways. I have taken the vehicle in for repairs three times, have paid over $400 in repair bills to have parts replaced and the issue still occurs. There are many complaints in internet forums for the exact same thing and most seem to lead to a faulty engine control module. I have not yet replaced the engine control module myself since they can cost over $400 and the dealer cannot guarantee that this will fix it. With all of the complaints regarding this reoccurring issue, I believe that this should warrant n investigation and possible recall due to safety concerns of vehicles stalling. The stalling has happened numerous times. I have no single date that I can provide. I have quit driving this vehicle since November due to concern for safety.

I was driving on the freeway when my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee v8 4. 7l just stalled out without any warning. It took about 1 hour to start back up. Then it died about five times after that. My Jeep also stalls out when I'm sitting at a stop light waiting for the light to change than bomb just like that my Jeep stalls out. Most the time I can start it, but some times I can't start my Jeep until the next day. I almost get slammed about 10 times already. I don't feel safe in the Jeep. . I replaced my fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, crankshaft position sensor, camshaft positions sensor, battery, battery terminals, and my oil pressure sensor. Nothing has helped my stalling! nothing! I took my Jeep to 2 different mechanics and they can't figure it out. I also called the Jeep dealership here in albuquerque, new mexico and I talked to the techs and mechanics and they all said they never seen that before. I call bs on that. If you look on google and type 2000 Jeep stall out, there's 100's even 1,000's of people dealing with the stall out problem. I don't feel safe in my Jeep at all!! I don't even want my 6 year old in the Jeep when I'm driving, sad thing is this is my only car!! please help investigate this problem. Thanks 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee v8 4. 7l.

I have had to have by Jeep repaired at least three (3) times in the past several years due to stalling. The last time they said it was a "wiring" problem. I am contacting you as I just read on msnbc. Com about this problem with Jeep patriot suvs.

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee will randomly stall. The dealer is unable find a problem. I was able to prevent a crash by muscling the powerless Jeep to a curb.
While idling at a stop light vehicle stalled. Dealer was not able to duplicate or resolve problem.
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee stalls at stop lights and in stop and go traffic. Also accelerates on its own at stops. . Very dangerous. When it happens it also lunges forward while driving, and steering will lock up.
I was driving at about 40-45mph, and suddenly the steering got incredibly stiff. The vehicle had stalled. I managed to pull off to the side of the road and tried to turn it back on. It cranked, but wouldn't turn over. I called Jeep, and had it towed back to the dealership. They told us it was the gear on the cam speed sensor. The mechanic showed us what he said was the cam sensor. Several of the teeth on the gear were shorn off. We asked to keep the bad part, and they said that was not allowed. I'm afraid the same thing will happen while I am driving on the highway.
This Jeep has numerous problems and has been to the dealership for service 4 time and they have failed to repair even 1 of our complaints. All complaints other than the pull to the right have been dismissed with the explanation of can not duplicate. They have tried to repair the pull to the right but it only got worse. We were told by a repair tech. That it needed a new part to correct the pulling to the right but Chrysler has failed to install this needed part. We have requested a repurchase of the Jeep under the lemon law but Chrysler denied our request stating that the pull to the right is due to "road crown" and if you hold the steering wheel with a strong to medium grip you don't notice the pull to the right! we have this in writing from the arbitrator that Chrysler hired. The dealership and Chrysler attempted to conceal some service repair forms that had the loose rear hatch problem and the pull to the right. Chrysler stated in letters to the attorney general that we had never brought the rear hatch alarm to the attention of the dealership which was disproved at arbitration but we still never received a copy of the repair sheet even though the dealership has it and provided a copy to the arbitrator. We have parked this Jeep due to the increasing severity of problems. We think this Jeep is dangerous due to it's numerous defects. We refuse to let anyone ride in the back for months due to the rear hatch (which the district manager for Chrysler found was loose at the arbitration hearing by pushing on the bumper and hatch.
Vehicle stalls. Also, brakes and rotors are defective.
Vehicle stalls when stopped with brakes applied, Chrysler says this is not a safety problem and does not affect performance of the vehicle.

The vehicle has stalled 4 times while driving, on one occasion an injury was sustained to the driver who pushed the vehicle out of the dangerous position it was in.
