36 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee ltd. Is riddled with safety problems. Chief among them is the drivers side seat frame. Bottom part of the seat frame has busted in several places. This is a serious matter and daimler/Chrysler should be held accountable. New seats are not easy to find and if you can find one the price is astronomically outrageous.

37 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2010

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee: while making a left hand turn, the left front driver's side seat rail detached from the floor rail. The steel was weak and the bolt holding it down appears to have "ripped" right through the steel rail. Now the front left corner of the seat moves up and down about six inches. This is, hopefully, a one-time failure, but very dangerous. I haven't found a replacement yet. Thousands of people have complained about this problem. There should be a recall.

38 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2010

Driver's seat became loose and wobbly, eventually "clicking" while driving, and then obviously broke and I was reclined back and to the right. Seat removal found that driver's seat frame had cracked and failed. Professional welder repaired seat frame and strengthened frame with additional material. Three years later, seat frame is failing again. I am not overweight or obese - this seat frame is dangerous, especially if it breaks while driving. A search on the internet indicates a widespread problem with these seat frames, including a repair kit website since Chrysler is not taking care of this issue. It is my opinion that under regular duty, a seat frame should last the lifetime of the vehicle.

39 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

The front seat in my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee had broke. The welds and bolts have broke.

40 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph when the driver seat fractured. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic and the mechanic referred the contact to the dealer. He then called the dealer and was advised that the driver seat would need replacing. The manufacturer was not contacted to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000 and the current mileage was 85,000.

41 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. Front driver's seat started to wobble/rock and then broke. A welder friend tried to braze it back together, held for 2 days broke again. Off to junkyard to find whole new seat. Looking online this is a wide-spread problem. An obvious defect and should be recalled. Dealership wants $800-1000 to fix.

42 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2010

I think it is ridiculous that a drivers seat can completely break from everyday use . My seat ( and hundreds, maybe thousands of others that I've seen on-line) just decided to break one day . Welds - welds- I'm a welder and I do not understand how a car - 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee - can be put on the market and a total failure of a drivers seat can occur . It is just inexcusable and I cant believe there was never a recall for this . I wonder how many people have been killed from this defect . I'm sure there have been many and many others severely injured because of this horrible failure . I seriously don't know of any other vehicle that this happens to . I've owned many cars and have many friends and relatives who have owned cars and not one has ever had a seat where the welds completely snapped off - just broke at all the welds - like the 2000 Grand Cherokee . You want proof ? go online and google search this topic and you will see hundreds of similar complaints . I was not able to re-weld this seat because the damage was so severe . I had to replace the entire seat new . . . . Because no junk yards or online services ( e-bay ) have any used ones available because the problem is so widespread . This is a very serious and potentially dangerous- very dangerous defect and I feel there should be a recall on this particular vehicle . I really can't believe there hasn't been one . I'm sure if you stress - tested this vehicle you would have found the defect in the first place . I'm only 185 pounds so my weight could not have caused complete breakage . I just got in the vehicle one day and the whole seat just snapped right off the frame ! how was this not discovered by Jeep during testing ? I believe it was and was just overlooked because it was already in production and would have been to costly . Bottom line is this is a very dangerous vehicle because of this seat defect thank you.

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

The driver's side seat in my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, got wobbly and eventually broken one one side of the rails to the point where the seat has become dangerously wobbly and uncomfortable to sit in.

45 Seats problem

Driver's side seat brackets broken. Seat not attached to seat brackets in front.

46 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2010

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee broken drivers seat. Frame for seat has failed in three places. I am 5'10" at 180 lbs and of average build. I am the second owner and have owned the Jeep since 2004. I have taken good care of this Jeep and provided regular maintenance since I purchased it. The seat frame connecting to the floor failed causing the seat to become unstable. I repaired the bracket with welding. A second failure occurred between the frame weld to the upright seat support causing the seat to recline uncontrollably. This failure occurred during operation and nearly caused an accident. The should be recalled and fixed before someone is seriously injured.

47 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

The driver's side seat in my 2000 Jeep laredo is broken. Where the seat connects to the slider it is ripped like a piece of paper.

48 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2010

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee front drivers seat mounting bracket is broken. The mounting brackets are apparently a defective design. This is a safety risk, as the seat belts are anchored by the seat.

49 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2010

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The frame underneath my driver's seat has cracked and broken causing the seat to be loose and tilted. The seat's frame bends over time and eventually began to tilt more and get more lose as the frame bent each time I sat down. Eventually the frame completely broke, which results in my driver's side front seat to be very 'wobbly,' the Jeep dealership quoted this at a $700 fix, just because they used a lighter, cheaper frame to reduce vehicle weight.

50 Seats problem

The driver seat on my grand Jeep cherokee 2000 just broke.

51 Seats problem

2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee; driver seat frame has multiple cracks developed over the years. I weigh 245lb. Internet search shows this to be a common problem with Jeep cherokee. Seems like a defect to me. May be it will completely far apart while I'm driving, who knows.

55 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2009

Front driver seat snapped all of a sudden and made squeaking noises and is like sitting in a rocking chair. Went to see if just a screw was loose or had fallen out but the entire metal frame had snapped. It could be very dangerous and im lucky I was not driving in traffic when this occurred.

56 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2009

Owned this Jeep since I purchased it new back in 2000. A few months ago while I was driving, I leaned my body towards the drives side mirror to look at it closely and suddenly the rail on my seat snapped! my initial reaction was to catch my fall but unfortunately the only thing I was hanging onto was my steering wheel. Bad mistake, but it was more of a sudden reaction than an educated decision. I swerved with my foot on the brake not knowing what had happened. Thankfully, it occurred at night and nobody was using any of the lanes next to me on the 4 lane highway. After I pulled over to inspect what had occurred, I was shocked to see I had snapped the seat rail completely! weighing in at 170lbs, I don't consider myself to be overweight either. After looking around for a new seat rail, I discovered that there are many complaints with the same year vehicle. Defiantly should be a recall with the amount of the same, dangerous problem. . .

My Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo seat frame is broken.

60 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2009

My 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee front driver seat track has broke and been repaired and broke 3 times now in a year. It started out as little wobble like bolt loose, which is what I thought it was. My mechanic pulled the seat out and found the crack and broken metal. Took it to and certified welder and had it welded. He told my the metal was cheap and that he has welded 3 others with the same issue. The last time he welded it for me he added some metal which lasted 6 months before breaking in another spot. Now I just have the back wedged up with block of wood and have no adjustment in my seat anymore. Talked to dealer after first break and was told they new of some problem but wasn't covered under warranties or no recalls. New replacement track are expensive and made the same as original, which has been known to break too. Sounds like alot of people are having these issues from what I have found on-line. Please recall this issue for everyone safety, and before someone gets killed.

61 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2009

This is a complaint regarding my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. My husband noticed a wobble in the front drivers seat and within 2 days (before he could take it in) the seat became unattached just as he was driving up a steep and curvy hill. He is around 270 pounds, well below the 400 pound limit. Luckily he was going very slow as it is a steep hill through the neighborhood. He landed in the lap of my 6-year old daughter, crushing her legs against her booster seat, which cause extensive bruising. While she was not seriously or permanently hurt - this could have been much worse or fatal if it happened under different circumstances. I have spoken with the dealer and they said it has not been recalled. I then looked online and was astounded by the number of other people who have had similar problems. This needs to be addressed with Chrysler before more people get injured or fatalities occur.

62 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2009

The front seat in my 2000 model Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have read from a large number of owners that the same thing has happened to them.

The contact owns a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. The contact stated that the front driver seat would continuously fail and would move independently while the vehicle was in motion. The brackets for the seat were replaced four times by an independent mechanic who advised the contact that the failure continuously recurred due to the weakness of the metal. The failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 137,000.

64 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

The driver's seat of my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee came loose, causing the seat to be pushed into the backseat while the car was being operated at a high rate of speed. The dealership refuses to acknowledge responsibility for poor construction, despite the commonality of this problem on similar Jeep models.

65 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2009

The drivers seat in my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee became wobbly and eventually broke from the frame. When it broke, I was driving and ended up flying forward and to the right. The dealer says it is over 1000. 00 to replace the seat. I currently have it secured with zip ties, but these will probably not hold the seat in place if I am in a car accident. It seems that this is a very common problem and there should be a recall.

66 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

Drivers seat on 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo has broken twice and I have repaired it myself. This seems to be a common problem I find searching the internet. This happened March 2009 and April 2010.

The repair would cost $800. No repairs have been made and the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 130,000 and current mileage was 137,000.

I sat in my drivers seat and the metal frame broke where the screw attached to the glides.

69 Seats problem
