The driver's side front seat in my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo failed, with the metal support track cracking and then breaking, leaving the seat nearly free. The seat had been loose for several months, since the time I purchased the vehicle in February of 2009. I had returned it to the dealer due to noise in the seat frame, and was told it was "natural wear and tear" and would not be repaired. I have since had the track welded to repair and reinforce the metal, but it does need a new track for any permanent repair, which Chrysler estimates at $1,500. If I had been involved in an accident when this seat was wobbling, I believe it would have failed completely and would not have restrained me in the vehicle. This is a very dangerous safety issue, if not addressed by Chrysler/Jeep, who has been aware of this for many years in the Grand Cherokee, based on the number of online complaints I have seen in recent days. My mechanic also told me it was clear the seat track that is now in the vehicle was not original, and was a replacement part of the original, which also must have failed.
