1 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2016

The driver seat bracket snapped loose at the rear left side that holds the seat to the frame while driving. I was making a right hand turn when I heard the seat frame break. Now when driving the seat is very loose and makes a clicking noise with lots of unstable seat movements.

Failure Date: 12/02/2014

While driving the drivers seat broke loose from the bracket and made it very dangerous to drive the vehicle.

3 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2013

While driving the drivers seat started to lean toward the passenger side, I slowed the Jeep down and pulled over to the side of the road. I did not see any obvious damage to the seating brackets/mounts. I continued to drive and the problem progressively got worse. The Jeep was taking to the auto shop on Jan 2, 2014 and the mechanics tightened the brackets. Jan 4 the same problem occurred again and again is progressively getting worse. Due to finances I am unable to get the entire seating system fixed.

4 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2011

The drivers seat is broken. The break appears to be somewhere between the seat and the frame, probably at the brackets. This is both a safety issue (seat could break off in a collision) and a comfort issue (the seat is crooked, causing back issues and discomfort).

5 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2011

Drivers seat bracket failure for Jeep Grand Cherokee 1999-2004. Due to poor design the brackets which hold the seat to the floor board will break free and can cause seat to break free while driving. This is a common issue which the manufacture is aware of and chooses to do nothing. When the bracket fails the whole seet must be removed and the bracket replaced.

6 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2011

The driver's side seat bracket broke on the right side while driving with no apparent reason. The seat on the right side now slumps down to the right with a terrible angle. Driving the Jeep now means one has to sit @ very uncomfortable manner and constainly be on guard to not move or the seat will rock.

9 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2010

I have owned a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo for 7 years and it has been a good car for me. A year ago my front seat broke off of the support beam and it is made of metal. I only way 180 lbs and have taken pretty good care of the car. After researching this online I have come to find out that this has happened to a lot of Jeeps and they used cheap metal to save money. I will be the first to say I love Jeep but this is dangerous for anybody riding in one. I only hope they do not use this method in newer models. It is very dangerous riding around in a seat that is not hooked to the car correctly. I had a friend weld the seat back to the support but it was only a temporary fix as it has broken again.

10 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2010

Driver seat has broken, causing me to sway side to side when turning. This seems to be a very common issue with this model of Jeep, and could definitely lead to a major wreck. I just bought the car used. Wish I'd have noticed this problem during the test drive.

11 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2010

Driver's seat has broken off the floor mount in left front corner - the metal snapped. The seat rocks and is dangerous. I see that there are literally hundreds of complaints about this problem - will Jeep fix this?.

Driver side seat broke , metal used is very thin ,if it is welde , it probably will break again , very poor design , the seat needs to be replaced.

13 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo driver seat is broken. Squeaked a little at fist, then just broke into pieces. The seat is not even attached to the base anymore. Very dangerous. No one has the part. Dealership says that seat comes in individual parts totaling $2300 + $99 labor. Ridiculous! two of the needed parts are discontinued. Ridiculous!!.

14 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

While making a turn, there was a pop under the seat. The bracket holding the seat has broken near the mounting bolts making the seat rock while sitting in it. I am afraid that if in an accident the seat might come completely loose.

15 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2010

Driver side seat broke in half on the left middle frame.

16 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2010

While driving down the road I noticed that seat in my Jeep was rocking to the side. Continuing down the road I heard a snap, so I pulled over to the side of the road and noticed that the front left and rear right mounts on my driver seat had broke. Currently looking for a replacement part, but for the time being I took the Jeep to a local welder and had the welder weld the broken brackets. While discussing the repair the welder informed me that this wasnt the first one he has repaired, he too had to weld seat brackets on his Jeep.

17 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

2001 jgc driver seat is broken. When I took my Jeep in to have rear axle worked on it came back with the driver seat rocking back to the right and forward to the left. The mechanic says he didn't do it but that they eventually wear out like that. I don't recall my seat rocking back and forth before I brought it to him. After checking with other Jeep owners I have been told they have the same problem with the driver seat. It makes driving uncomfortable and I'm now noticing problems with my lower back and hip.

18 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2009

The driver's seat broke on my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. This seems to be a common problem with Jeep customers. This is a safety issue if it happens when someone is driving.

19 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2009

At approximately 89,000 miles, the driver's seat track broke on the left front corner on a weld. Dealer said new seat track would have to be purchased. We had the broken area re-welded. At approximately 185,000 miles a different component on the left front corner also cracked, not near a weld. This is extremely dangerous, since the entire seat rocks about and the driver is unable to accurately apply the brakes. It's unbelievable that a recall has not been initiated, considering the frequency with which this issue occurs.

20 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

Driver side seat mount broke (lower left side) and left back support mount broke.

21 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2009

Driver's seat broke away from the seat frame when driving after applying brakes.

22 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

My drivers side front seat on my Jeep Grand Cherokee broke, we had it welded back twice, but the entire track and the back of the seat are broken. It's very unsafe to drive and apparently this is very common on these Jeeps. I don't understand how Jeep can make a vehicle with such an unsafe part. It really should be recalled. I know of a poll for this particular defect and 1703 people have signed that the same thing has happened to them.

23 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2008

Driver seat is broken, seat leans to the back and right.

24 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

First of all, I am not the first person to have this complaint. My drivers seat is broken on my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. Upon research, I found that this problem was in no way unique to me. This is ridiculous!!! I demand a recall, or at least compensation for paying to have my seat replaced. If I were the only person with this problem, I would understand, but every person that I've talked to has experienced this exact same problem with this exact same seat. This is why people have problems with buying american cars. Unless I get this issue resolved, rest assured that I will never ever buy an american car again. As far as I am concerned, I want this fixed. I will be writing my senators.

25 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2007

Drivers side car seat broke off its brace so now its basically not attached to anything. 2001 Jeep cherokee.

26 Seat Broken problem

My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee driver side seat broke and I think it should be recalled ASAP I have noticed this is a very common thing. I now have to drive around with my 2 year old in a crooked seat and the safety belt doesn't lay right since it is crooked. I think this is a very serious problem.

27 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2007

Driver's side seat broken in 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Initially the seat started with a metallic grinding sound. Then there was a slight snap. Now the seat rocks back and forth and side-to-side. We have not been able to correct the problem due to the inability to find replacement parts. The dealer fix is entirely too costly.

28 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2005

Broken metal driver's power/heated seat frame under normal wear. Same problem as in other people's complaints: the driver's seat frame broke in one corner and is no longer able to be bolted to the floor track. Seat rocks and leans back. Puts a lot of strain on other seat components. Would be very dangerous in accident. Dealer says would have to replace entire seat and track assembly for $1000+.

29 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2004

Drivers seat frame broke in 2 locations under normal driving conditions causing the seat to be unstable and make rocking motions while turning and stopping.

30 Seat Broken problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2003

Driver's seat broke as I was turning into my car port causing vehicle to strike port post. I attempted to repair faulty seat bracket, to no avail.
