The seat brackets in my Jeep started to break apart around 2013, now the brackets are almost completely broken apart. I am driving with the seat leaning and rocking back and forth this is a very dangerous situation. I¿ve contacted the dealership and they said there is no recall. They transfer me to a number where I can find out about recalls they also said there was no recall for this particular model. In my research I found out that there are seat bracket problems with Jeeps and this problem should be recalled.

5 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

While attempting to repair both driver's and passenger's seat warmer system that was no longer working, I discovered that the factory installed heated seats had apparently shorted out and caused the foam cushion in each of the seats to catch fire. The wiring had burned a hole approximately 4 inches long and 1-2 inches deep. Fortunately, the fire did not spread far within the seat. Upon doing an online search, it appears that this is a very common problem.

8 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2012

Driver's seat lh seat base frame cracked through and broke off. Seems to be an issue with a lot of Jeep models. Drivers seat became a "rocking chair" with potential to be thrown from the vehicle during a crash or lose control of vehicle if seat completely comes off the frame. Why has this not been recalled already with the large number of vehicles impacted?.

9 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2012

Driver's seat was wobbling. My husband took it out and found one metal fitting that bolts seat to frame totally broke and another one cracked. This is our son's vehicle and we are concerned about his safety in this vehicle. In much research, there are many, many more with the same problem. We live in a city where rear end collisions are not uncommon. This is a severe safety problem. Does someone have to die before a recall of this?.

10 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

The front drivers side and rear passengers side bolts on the frame of the driver's seat have pulled through the frame, causing a constant rocking and causing the seat to lean very far back. This is very unsafe. After searching for a replacement seat, I found that this is a very common problem on the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

11 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2011

The driver seat of my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee has broken numerous times and they all broke from the same exact place. Bottom frame of the driver seat is not strong enough. When the single nut pokes through the fram and cracks the seat fram overtime the whole seat's frame is bent and the seat becomes unusable.

14 Seats problem

The driver seat metal base has broken in 2 parts on both sides. The drivers seat is loose and I cant find any replacement.

15 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

Front seat of 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee is unsafe. Heard from numerous other Jeep drivers that this is a problem with this model year. Driving along and all of a sudden the chair breaks and becomes unsteady. Causing me to have to try and pull of the road. The chair will now recline when you accelerate and flow forward upon breaking - which has its impact on gas/break pedals when applied.

16 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2010

I was backing up in a parking lot. The driver side seat snapped lose and I hit two cement baracades. Badly denting my rear door. Lucky there was not a person standing there, I was at a college. The seat had been rocking a bit. When I looked at it the seat mount the rear pivot point had completely broken off both sides. The mounts holding the seat to the mount were also broken. This seem to happen a lot and I could not fine a junk yard replacement. . Dealers wanted $700-$1200 for the repair. I took the seat out and had it welded. I can no longer use the horizontal or vertical seat adjustment but it tilts and goes back and forth. I have not tried to fix the back door yet.

17 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2010

The driver seat on my 2001 Grand Cherokee has broken at 3 of the 4 attachment points and is not posing a safety problem. I am unable to find available replacement parts and have never encountered a problem like this in other vehicles. The metal has broken.

18 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

The frame holding the driver's seat is very flimsy and has broken in 3 of 4 places holding the seat. The 4th location has not yet broken all the way through but a crack has begun. The vehicle is not safely drivable and is parked until I can find replacement parts. Many people have reported this same problem. Why has nothing been done? the problem starts as a squeak, then a crack, then the seat is tilted and ultimately the breaks happen at all 4 corners of the seat frame. A crack at all 4 corners will allow the seat, and the driver, to fall back too far to reach the steering wheel and brakes. This is very dangerous.

19 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

I own a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo, and the driver's seat mount has broken, allowing the seat to be connected to the floorboard by only 2 corners. The events leading up to the failure include a noise coming from the seat while seated in it, especially with weight shifts during turns. The seat is now not supported on the front left corner nor the back right corner. To attempt to correct the failure, I had a friend try to glue a plate on the front left corner to help stabilize it against the floorboard mount, but the same was not done to the back right corner due to the placement of it. I have done research online into the cost to fix this issue, and it seems it will cost $600-$1000 to replace the seat and it's mount. The seat now tilts into the middle, and the pressure of the seat on the seat belt receiver has now destroyed the center console also. It is also apparent that thousands of other Jeep Grand Cherokee owners have had the same issue. This is not a "normal" repair that a consumer should have to face. Jeep/Chrysler refused to do anything.

20 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2010

The front driver seat started squeaking and then it stopped working completely. . . . Will not move forward or backward. . . . . Just received an estimate to repair the seat. . . . . $1200 (christian brothers automotive) this is absolutley ridiculous. . . . Jeep needs to have a manual seat available for replacement of their flawed electronic seat.

I have been told by Jeep that this is a common problem and it will cost $900 to repair. I had this repair done once at 50k miles and it has happened again. 26 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2010

Owner of 2001 Jeep gr cherokee laredo. I wish to file this complaint about the driver's seat. Started out with an annoying squeak and some popping on entrance, exit, acceleration, and braking of vehicle. Within 1 mth of noticing this problem the front bolt broke away from the seat frame and metal then it went to the back right bolt. I have attempted to get this welded and was told it was too involved, I tried searching the junk yards for a used seat and apparently these seats are hard to come by, and have also spoke with the dealership in regards to getting this fixed and I was quoted a price but told no guarantee with the repair and the part was on a backorder. To date I have not been able to find the replacement or fix causing me not to pass inspection (when the inspector got in to check something else he wound up in my son's car seat. ). I have had to put wooden blocks underneath but it still rocks back and forth.

27 Seats problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

30 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2009

My driver's seat started to feel loose and tilted toward the right and was squeaking. It was like that for a few months and this past weekend, I heard a pop and the bracket that holds my seat to the floor tracks broke. It is now only supported by three welds and the seat tilts every time I turn a corner, accelerator or brake.

31 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

The driver's side seat is not securely anchored to the vehicle. Upon inspection it is obvious the manufacturer used poor welding or has instituted a poor design to anchor the seat properly. The seat itself is still in good condition, however, it rocks unsafely and will not provide adequate protection in the event of an accident. . Read more...

32 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

The driver's seat frame failed. Prior to investigating why the seat back wobbled and did not offer support while driving. I contacted the local Jeep dealer where the unit was purchased. They told me I needed a new seat frame assembly. I asked if there were any complaints or recalls, they replied with "none". The vehicle is primarily driven by my wife and has only 45,000 miles and change on it. The dealer told me the cost of the seat frame assembly would be about $1200 not including labor to remove the covering and replace the frame. Etc. The dealer offered no financial assistance saying that the vehicle was out of warranty. I took the vehicle to a local repair shop and they stripped off the covering revealing a cracked bottom seat frame. They ordered a Jeep bottom seat frame at a cost of $363. 75 and charged me labor of $281. 00 to strip off the covering, install the seat and recover accordingly. Also, to compound the aforementioned neither the driver's side or passenger side height adjustments function. This is not a result of the seat frame as stated above. Is there any assistance you can render in terms of reimbursement? I can provide photos of the failed seat frame assembly as well as copies of the monies paid to take care of the repair. Ii have researched this problem extensively on the internet and there are volumes of similar complaints. A serious residual of this seat frame failure has resulted in the seat totally collapsing to the rear with a sudden stop or impact leaving the driver in a dangerous reclining position. It's unfortunate that perhaps not enough people who have experienced this problem may not have taken the time to report it to the proper agencies or authorities. Please help before someone is hurt or killed. Thank you.
