The driver side seat heater gets so hot or feels like it's burning my legs. . I can only use it on low to prevent burns. . The passenger side does not work at all. (recall #09v117000) if the passenger side door is open, I cannot lock the doors, or put the windows up until it is shut. (recall #01v288000) . . Periodically when I start the Jeep the air bag light will stay on. . I have to pull over, turn the vehicle off, and repeat the process until it goes back off. (recall #12v527000).

I own a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland. Recently, I have had problems with my drivers side heated seat. Yesterday, it got extremely hot so I shut if off for fear of a fire or being burnt, and today it is not working at all. Because of this, I am also concerned about the safety of the passenger heated seat. I found out from a dealer that there is a recall on this particular issue, but my VIN number is not covered. I called Chrysler customer care to discuss this, and they said they were unable to help. I feel this is a known issue and my vehicle is displaying the exact symptoms covered in this recall, yet for some unexplainable vehicle it has been excluded. The following is text from the recall: summary: Chrysler is recalling 102,354 m/y 2001-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles with heated seats and with Chrysler recall no. 06v-197 completed (03-04 m/y) or seat heater elements service replacement (01-02 my). The front seat electric heater elements could overheat. Consequence: overheating could potentially cause a fire or injury. Remedy: dealers will replace the front seat heater elements free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided an owner notification schedule. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

The heated seat on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland overheated and burned my legs. I now leave the heated seat turned off. I took the car to the Jeep dealer and they stated it needs a new seat heater assembly and will cost $800. 00. I cannot afford to pay that much so I did not have it replaced. I saw a recall notice on the NHTSA web site and discussed this with the Jeep dealer. The Jeep dealer stated that my Jeep is not covered in the recall.

He referenced recall 09v117000(seats:front assembly:seat heater/cooler), but the manufacturer told him that his vehicle was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired to-date. The failure increased the risk of a crash. The dealer stated that the entire seat frame needed to be replaced at the cost of over $400. He is in the process of having the seats repaired. Secondly, the power windows worked intermittently. The dealer replaced the window regulators. Thirdly, he noticed that fluid from the heater coil leaked into the front passenger side of the vehicle. The manufacturer would not assume any responsibility for the repair because the vehicle exceeded the warranty. The failure and current mileages were 94,000.

The seat heater in my '02 Jeep grand cherkoo overland stopped working. I peeled back the leather covering to discover a wire connecting 2 heating elements had shorted out where it is pinched by a spring tension rod and significantly burnt the seat cushion and melted part of the leather.

On January 3, 2007, minutes after turning on the passenger side heated seat, it got extremely hot and was unable to be sat on, it produced smoke, and a burning smell was observed. I believe this could have been a fire had it not been turned off quickly. My son was in the passenger seat and he raised his butt from the seat screaming about the heat. I immediately turned the heater off, pulled over, he jumped out of the vehicle, and we waited for some time for the seat to cool down before proceeding onward to school. I am afraid to allow anyone to sit in that seat until it is properly repaired.

Chrysler-Jeep says my vehicle is not covered in the announced (on tv and radio) recall of 2003 and 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee suvs. I do not understand. It is the same hazard. Dealer told me to wait for a recall notice.

Engine light came on my Jeep I took it to the dealership and they informed me the light is from a malfunction with the gas cap seal. Also the heater and a/c don't work and I had them look into it they said the main device inside the dash was malfunctioning and want to charge me over $850. Also my seat heaters don;t work anymore and again they said the heating pad failed. They refuse to repair the malfunctioning parts stating it's not cover in the warranty that ended 1 and a 1/2 month ago.

She sustained third degree burns to her buttocks and to her foot which was resting on the seat. Purchased November 2001, had two recalls for fuel system within two months, dealer told me there was previous recall fixed before I purchased. Engine safety warning light has come on and stayed on several days on seven (7) separate occasions. Dealer claims not to worry cannot figure out why. Plus seat heater went out and had to be replaced, interior heater stopped working except defrost. I believe they are all related and is why the engine safety warning light keeps coming on. Also to note--vehicle sways back and forth over small bumps, like riding a small boat in rough water.
