When I got in my Jeep there was a breaking sound from under the drivers seat. I noticed the seat was rocking back and forth and when I looked underneath at the frame of the seat I saw where the frame broke in half. It is unsafe to drive now and it is my only means of transportation. I used to have a lot more faith in Jeep until I looked it up and started seeing more and more people have the same problem and Chrysler/Jeep has not recalled it. Due to this being a life threatening problem I will not buy another Jeep if they don't recall it! there is plenty of life left in the vehicle but is now inoperable due to it being an extremely unsafe vehicle.
The power driver's seat retaining brackets have broken and have created a very unsafe driving situation. Researching this breakage online reveals a widespread safety hazard that is not being dealt with by Jeep. A recall should be made due to the high frequency of the breakage of a car's safety features, which I had never encountered before . . . A driver's seat retaining brackets failing due to insuffieciently strong metal used by the manufacturer.
Takata recall the seats stopped heating and got really hot in one spot I pulled the seat cover up and it burned a spot in me seat cover and foam underneath where the wire is run thru the seats it is on both the driver side and passenger side seats there is a recall on the heated seats on some models but not on mine but it could have burned me or my kids or could have caught the car on fire.
The seat bracket on the driver side is broken. I researched this and this is a widespread issue with companies actually manufacturing thicker aftermarket brackets due to the demand for the product.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the front passenger's side seat warmer over heated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 09v117000 (seats). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Seat warmers on both sides of vehicle became really hot towards the front center portion of the seat. Turned them off and when I got home I removed the leather from the seat and found bare wires that were over heating and burning through the seat cushion and backing on the leather.
Driver's seat detaches from car frame. Electrical blower module resistor overheats, melts, and burns. Both issues are known by consumers and dealerships, so there is no way Jeep/Chrysler doesn't know about the design flaws and the danger. Driver's seat: there is a great deal of chatter on the internet regarding the driver's seat detachment from the car frame and the reason for it. People have created various fixes that may or may not work well. As added proof, it is impossible to find a Jeep Grand Cherokee driver's seat in any junk yard. Please go look for yourself. Mine totally broke while on the highway, nearly causing a wreck. It's terrible and I do not understand why there hasn't been a recall and someone held criminally liable for this. Blower motor module: lots of chatter on the internet as well as to the problem and the cause. Mine melted and became so hot that I couldn't touch it without burning my hand - which I did. There is a fix, but you have to buy an upgrade module which still gets hot. Also, the module turns the blower in reverse, so you have to reverse the leads. It's dangerous and again, I don't understand why there hasn't been a recall on it either and someone held criminally liable.

We were traveling on the highway with the heated seats on and they became extremely hot. I turned them off and stopped to let the seats cool. Later in the day when I tried to use them again they would not work. And have not worked since. I checked the NHTSA site for recalls and I discovered a recall for this problem, NHTSA campaign # 09v1117000/ Chrysler llc recall # j14. When I went to my local Jeep dealer I was informed that my VIN # was not part of the recall even though I was experiencing the exact same problem. I looked on the web site "arfc. Org" and discovered there are a large number of Jeep cherokee owners having the same problem. Many of them had fires and/or burns, yet they are not covered by the recall. Jeep clearly has a problem with their heated seats that needs to be addressed. The recall appears to be only for some repair parts from a previous recall. If Chrysler had to have a recall and install repairs for their heated seats it is obvious their heating elements are problematic and they should extent the recall to cover all Jeep heated seat problems.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the front passenger seat warmer became extremely hot then failed to function. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the seat warmer had failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 09v117000 (seats). The failure mileage was 98,500.
Driving my children home from new york on the 6th of July 2013, some where on the turnpike my 16 year old daughter complained about the heated seat being to hot. I told her that she should turn it off then, to witch she replied I already did dad but its still hot. She drove the rest of the trip with the seat off. As soon as we could pulled over to take a look at it we did. When we took a look at the effected area it looked like a tennis ball size blister. Just to be safe I had to take her to the er and it was a 2nd degree burn!!.
The 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee seat track has a weak point on the rear scissor assembly. When you start to notice a wobble or click it means one of the tiny connecting pieces has broken. Eventually the other side will also break allowing you to lift the entire seat up.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received recall notices for NHTSA campaign numbers: 12v525000 (seats) and 12v527000 (air bags) however, the parts needed for the repair were unavailable. The manufacturer was notified. The contact had not experienced a failure.
My power steering went out, the air conditioner quit working, the air bags light will not go off, headlights come on and off when no one is in the vehicle, the electrical sensors are inoperable, and the heated seats get too hot, or not work at all. I have yet to receive any recalls for my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland. I would like to know why I have not received any recall notices for the problems that have prompted Chrysler to issue recall notices for above issues.
The drivers side front heating element started to smoke. Unit was turned off quickly & has failed to operate ever since.
My vehicle is an 02 overland. My driver side heated seats no longer works. One morning it was just dead and passengers are constantly complaining about the intense heat coming from their seat. I have never been informed of this as a faulty unit but now seeing the complaints online I would like to voice my issue and have my seats checked out or disabled. I really appreciate any help you can provide.
Recently my front driver seat on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland started to rock back and forth and felt very "loose". I looked under the seat and found that the very thin metal that had been connected to the seat frame/rail had fractured and one bolt had actually bored through the metal hole opening between the two assemblies.
Noticed a failure of driver's side seat mount. Seat now rocks back and forth because front of seat mounts became fatigued and failed. After doing some internet research, this seems to be a common problem with this model and should be investigated.
This evening, while making a left turn in my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo, the metal base structure of the driver's seat sheered off in the right front position. This has resulted in the seat being secured to the vehicle by only the other three positions, and the seat wobbles back and forth. The vehicle is now unsafe to drive. In a collision, the failure of this seat is assured.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the driver and passenger side heated electric seats were overheating abnormally. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included under NHTSA campaign number: 09v117000 (seats). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.
Drivers side front heated seat worked intermittently at first then one time got extremely hot and no longer works. The mechanic where we purchased found the heated seat element had burned in two and the foam cushion had burnt as well. Told us to contact Chrysler, they said our vehicle was not included in recall.
Driver side seat lower frame broke while me driving and made me swerve left almost running off the by-pass,upon looking at my seat I revealed a cracked lower seat frame, which makes me very uncomfortable when driving, the seat is very loose. My actual weight is 210lbs 5 11" I feel that the seat should be assembled to easily handle a 250lb person.
My 2002 Jeep cherokee limited front driver seat brackets have broken on all 4 legs where they bolt onto the floor. . I had them welded back and it appeared sturdy until the other day when I went to get into the seat. . . The left upper front brace broke completely thru. I called cross Jeep in louisville ky, to replace this part. . . They said I had to pay $331 in advance and couldn't give me a very good date when the order will be filled. . . He pulled up current orders from Dec 2009 and the eta on their seats was June 2010. . This is a major safety problem. . . . Its like not wearing a seat belt because you are not strapped down to anything. . .
Whilst driving heard a snap and the front driver's seat started to wobble. The metal bracket snapped. This is a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Driver's side heated seat got extremely hot and has since quit working. Called dealer and Chrysler/Jeep and both say it is not covered under the current recall #j14. I see where there are 17 under the "seat" heading of component and others under the electrical heading. This should be a recall someday and soon.
My heated seat on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland got to hot and melted the seat padding on the drivers side it dose not work and there is a recall on them and my Jeep is not on the recall.
Front drivers heated seat element got very hot and burned me and stopped working.
2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee heated seat failure and fire, the heated seat stopped working on investigation of the cause it was discovered that the carbon fiber element in the seat cushion had failed and burned the surrounding foam and seat cover material.
Took my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee into dealership to fix a window. When I picked it up they had changed some part that was a recall on my heated seats. The heated seats then burned out a module and the dealership said that it was not their problem and that it would cost $200. 00 per seat to fix. I couldn't believe it. Obviously I now have seats that only heat on high.
2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland heated seat no longer works prior to it quitting, it would get very hot and have to be shut off I was advised that there was a recall & when I called the dealer they said my 2002 Jeep was not inlcuded--maybe someone should look into including additional 2002 Jeep cherokees-.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While attempting to enter the vehicle, the driver-side seat shifted out of position without intention. The vehicle was taken to a local body shop, and a mechanic concluded that the seat bracket need to be replaced. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were under 99,685.
My driver side seat on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee is sagging on one side. Checking on-line this is a very common problem where Chrysler designed it poorly and used substandard parts.
We purchased a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo on 7/1/09. The driver's side front seat shifts forward and backward depending on the direction of travel, bumps in the road, etc. , making it difficult to maintain full control of the vehicle.
Approximately mid January, the driver's side heated seat cushion overheated and caught fire. Luckily turning off the switch extinguished the fire. However it left a couple of inch long burn mark in the leather seat cover. We had been noticing "hot spots" in the heating element, and my wife had placed a fleece hood on the seat to sit on. This also received some melting but saved her from any burns. Discussion with family and friends lead to the discovery of a recall involving Jeep heated seats. I contacted my local dealership and was informed that my vehicle did not fall under the recall guidelines. Recall was for '03 & '04 models, I have a '02. I asked if they would cover the repairs anyway as the problem was the same, they declined. I then contacted Chrysler/Jeep by phone. I received the same response from a representative and the supervisor. When I asked about an appeals process they said I had just been through it by talking to the supervisor. My understanding of the '03/'04 recall is that both driver and passenger seats and seat back heating elements would be replaced due to potential failure. I am concerned that just fixing the "broken part" would leave the possibility of this occurring on the other seat also. I have not replaced this as yet. We are just not using the heated seats. I am in the process of checking on various replacement options and prices such as factory parts, replacement with aftermarket parts, etc. I wonder what options are available besides paying for this repair myself?.
Extreme heating of driver's side heated seat with subsequent failure.
