1 Blower problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the blower motor failed when he attempted to use the heat and smoke appeared underneath the glove compartment box. There were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the connected plug to the blower motor resistor melted the wires and plastic cap that surround the resistor and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to byford Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of chickasha (3121 s 4th st, chickasha ok 73018) for diagnostic testing. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in a recall and advised the contact to call the manufacturer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. The VIN was not available.

Ventilation system in your Grand Cherokee making noise, blowing cold air, or just not functioning properly? defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower.

3 Blower problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2009

Passenger side bend door defective passenger side to hot and does not cool visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower.

4 Blower problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2008

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower loss of half of the heater control and ability to regulate the temperature. After phone calls to repair shops, I was told to expect the rest of it to stop working if not corrected soon, as this is a 'common" problem with 1999-2004 Grand Cherokees. Estimates were in excess of $1,000. 00. Loosing the ability to regulate the temperature to defrost windows in winter(wisconsin) and not being able to keep my three year old son warm is a huge problem for me and should be for the manufacturer. A TSB was issued on 01/20/04 for these issues, and it was recommended to replace the respective sub-assembly if any parts were to be replaced. They knew of the issue and nothing was done. Hope to find a dealer to help me with this so we can have heat again. Hoping to not have the same poor service that I received when I had to fix the power steering, TSB's on that, no info from the dealer on that when asked, along with being quoted for the wrong parts.

5 Blower problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2008

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower my heater is blowing cold air on driver's side/passenger takes a long time to blow heat. Ac (air conditioning is also failing) receiving these codes: 52. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Ai (recirc) door travel too large 54. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Left temperature door travel too large the problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee limited is a design problem. The system uses a stepper motor that detects the extents of movement by hitting a resistance point at the open and close point. The system is designed with a small plastic pin on the door connection pin that breaks over time. When the pin breaks, the resistance point occurs when the door hits the extents of the open and close position. The door is not designed to handle this force and eventually the door itself actually breaks. Please note we are currently in -3 celsius weather in mississauga, ontario, canada. I will be taking my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee in for warranty service. If this is not covered under warranty I am looking at a bill to fix between $300-$1500 canadian. After going to dealership with warranty claim will call 1-800# and provide details from dealership visit. This can be considered a safety defect since could affect defrosting of windshield while driving. Also very uncomfortable to drive with no heat (in winter) and no ac (in summer) please respond to my complaint ASAP. Thank you I have read several posts on the internet that Jeep from 1998-2004 all have the same problem. Update: I have received service for Jeep on January 21, 2008 I have put in a complaint on Jan. 21/08 reference # 17140103 issue was blend door fault. The blender door on left side was melted. Parts replaced: 05012743 housing 24-028-025 05134353 housing 24-028-025 total parts and labor $473. 27 please followup with Chrysler why this is a not a recall. Jeep is not drivable in this condition.

6 Blower problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2007

Cold air started to come out of heater vents on driver's side even though heater was set on heat. This happened on a journey in a ice storm. Wind shield could not be cleared and a dangerous level of visibility caused me to stop driving. I was told be a mechanic that the heater blend doors had failed (broken) and that this is a very common problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee 02-04 model year. This is potentially a disastrous safety issue that Chrysler corporation are fully aware of. A dealer repair is quoted at over $1400!.

7 Blower problem

Failure Date: 12/08/2007

Visibility:deroster/defogger system:windshield:blower factory defect in the blend door. No heat coming out on the passenger side, only cold air. Have lost visibility of entire passenger side wind shield during winter conditions. Very dangerous, almost got in an accident because I couldn't see since the windshield froze up and I didn't have warm air coming out of the passenger defrost.

8 Blower problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2007

The passenger side of my Jeep was blowing cold air. I took my Jeep to the dealer and was told that the temp door and fresh air doors were broken. He also stated that this was a common problem with my Jeep. Also, the drivers side heated seat was very hot when it was on the low setting. They found that the heater grid had a short in the circuit. The sum of all repairs was $954. 60.

9 Blower problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2007

My 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with electronic dual climate controls and 66,000 miles will only blow cold air. Both blend doors are stuck on full-cold. The fault severely limits my ability to defrost/defog my windshield. According to industry experts I've talked to, the fault is common to all 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees. The repairs are exorbitant; estimated at $1,600 to $1,800.

10 Blower problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2007

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower.

11 Blower problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2007

I put the heat on in my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee only to find cold air blowing from every passenger side vent (the floor, the dash, & the defrost). I called 2 Jeep dealerships regarding the problem and they both informed me that it is a blend door issue which will cost $1000 to $1400 in order to fix. After searching the internet, I've found that many other people have run into the same exact situation.

12 Blower problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2007

I am experiencing the same "door blend" malfunction that thousands of others are experiencing. One day the substandard vent door for the passenger side climate control broke, and since then only cold air blows from those vents as well as the windshield defroster. The defroster worries me the most as without a clear windshield my vision is thus impaired and could potentially lead to a deadly accident. I have spoke to a Jeep dealership who informed me that it is a very common problem and it would cost me upwards of $1,200. 00 to fix. After checking the internet I see thousands of other Jeep owners with the exact same problem, yet no factory recall. Jeep needs to fix this problem for its customers before dangerous or deadly accidents occur!.

13 Blower problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2007

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited - no heat on driver's side - passenger side heat is still working. I checked the codes for this problem and it seems to be related to the "blend doors" located in the heating/cooling vehicle ductwork. I also did a great deal of checking via the internet to see if there were other Jeep owners having this same problem. To my surprise, I found that there were a great many other Jeep owners all complaining about the exact same problem. It also appears that this is a very costly repair (I saw where people had paid as much as $1800. 00 to get their heaters working correctly). This is not just a comfort problem (drivers and passengers being too hot or too cold), since it also effects the windshields defogger/defroster ability, which of course, can lead to an actual dangerous driving condition. With so many Jeep owners experiencing this exact same problem, it's clear that this is a major manufacturer defect and should lead to a recall to repair the problem at no charge to the owner.

14 Blower problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2007

Visibility:defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower.

15 Blower problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2007

I get cold air on the driver's side and hot air on the passenger side. The dealer said it was the blend door, it's a common problem with Jeep . .

16 Blower problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2007

I own a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with 105k miles. I am the second owner. We purchased the Jeep second hand from sheehy Ford Mercury in ashland virginia on January 15th 2007. The part failure appears to be a very common problem on the Jeep models with dual climate control based on the hundreds of online forums describing similar problems with the hvac "recirc" doors and the "blend" doors. My problem was the recirc door had broken loose and had fallen down covering the vent system entirely, in effect, we had no heat, no a/c and most importantly, no defrost. Virginia state law requires that the vehicle must have defrost to pass the state safety inspection. I did the repair myself after reading how daimler/Chrysler has completely ignored the design fault. Now, anyone who has these model Jeep's will have to pay $1200. 00 and up for a repair that breaks again due to the same problem using the same faulty parts. The plastic door stops break off first, then due to the poor design, the door finally breaks off and falls down blocking all airflow from the heating and air system. A recall needs to be issued to fix the problem. I ordered from ebay, two kits from someone in texas who offers replacement stainless steel hardware that replaces the recirc doors and blend doors. The kits cost me $232. 00 dollars and about 16 hrs labor along with bloody knuckles. I decided to not waste time going to a dealer and getting denied repairs due to no recall. The kits I used were called heatertreater. I repaired both recirc and blend doors even though the blend doors were not a problem yet. Please, please someone force daimlerchrysler to face reality and fix this safety problem.

17 Blower problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2007

Air mixer door failure causes cold air to come out of the defroster and fogs the windshield up.

18 Blower problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2007

Extremely cold air began blowing from vents when heat was on. This malfunction prevents the windows from defrosting destroying the visibility from the windshield and driver and passenger windows.

19 Blower problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2007

Defrost quit working.

20 Blower problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2007

Blend door problem. Blows hot on one side cold on the other. It only has 37k miles and it would cost me 1000$ to fix.

21 Blower problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2007

Passenger side air vents of my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee started to blow cold air when the heat was on starting in 3/2006. This caused problems with my windshield defrosting with the heat only working on one side. Dealer refused to cover problem ("door actuator") under warranty and told me it would cost $800. 00 to fix. I didn't even own the vehicle for a month, this vehicle was sold to me with faulty heat. Now on 2/17/07 I lost all my heat in the vehicle causing me to freeze in the new england weather. More importantly I can't defrost my windshield. I was told the total cost to repair would be $1,000. 00.

22 Blower problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2007

Vent is blowing cold air out of passenger side when heat is turned on.

23 Blower problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2007

My heater stopped blowing hot air on the drivers side of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

24 Blower problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2007

I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland and the vents on the passenger side only blow cold air. The blend door not opening and closing, which is what it should be doing. During the winter I had to keep changing the heat from blowing on me to blowing on the windows because they kept fogging up, and when I switched to the windows I was subject to the cold. There is loud creaking sound coming from the dashes underside when you turn on the ventilation. There is creaking from the dash seconds after shutting the engine off.

25 Blower problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

Blend door failure, cold air during heating mode.

26 Blower problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2006

Visibility : windshield defroster/defogger system is un-operable due to faulty "heater blend doors". This is a serious safety "hazard" due to fact you can not defrost the front windshield when necessary to see where you are going.

27 Blower problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2006

Blend door failed. Heat no longer came out on passenger side. Cold air instead. Cost $1500 to fix. Absurd for a 3 yr old auto (2003) with 40k miles. Jeep Grand Cherokee. I understand the blend door fails on almost all their 1999-2004 cars.

28 Blower problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2006

Blend door malfunction. On the passenger side of my Jeep I always have cold, no matter how many times I try to change the temp to get the doors to adjust. Driver side has sporadic problems with the blend doors. Sometimes it will be the temp that I want, and other times it will be the complete opposite. When I asked the Jeep dealer in town, he estimated that it would cost $1400 to fix the problem. I had bought the Jeep from a dealership 4 months prior to this happening. I have done nothing to correct this problem because I refuse to pay out of my own pocket for faulty equipment that was installed by the vehicle manufacturer.

29 Blower problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2006

Visibility: defroster/defogger system:windshield:blower wj style Jeep heat stopped working. Could not see to drive during the winter. Defrost would not work. Jeep would not fix. Cost me over $3000. 00 cdn to repair at dealership.

30 Blower problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2006

Very unsafe malfunction of the "blend doors" in my 2003. Defroster only work on my driver's side. Dealer knows about it, says if you only have one malfunctioning, you might as well replace both blend doors because they know the parts are badly designed and will fail, says about $1600 - $1800 to fix it with redesigned parts!.

31 Blower problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2006

Heater.

32 Blower problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2005

Almost immediately after the warranty ran out, the passenger side of the automatic zone control stopped putting out heat, only cold. Then about 5000 miles later the entire vehicle stopped putting out heat altogether. This is a very dangerous safety issue due to the fact that there is no way to keep the windshield clear of ice and fog. This makes the vehicle unusable during half of the year. This is a well known, common problem that should have a recall placed for the repair. There has not been any action taken yet to repair this problem because it is so expensive to have repaired. ($800 to $1500).

33 Blower problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2005

Heater fails to work on one side of the dash causing great discomfort for the passengers and driver of the vehicle.
