Vehicle's heating system is defective. . . Heat only comes out on passenger side and not driver's side, a internal defect in heating mechanics (door's that control heat ) in researching online appears that this is a common issue with Jeep owners in this year range and should be a recall that the manufacture is responsible for. Please advise. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Poor design and cheap plastic parts led to premature failure of the heater/ac blend doors that control the air flow of the heater and air conditioning system. This problem has existed on the 1999 to 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Why didn't Chrysler repair the defect instead of waiting 6 years? the dealer charges $ 1300. 00 to make this repair. The actual part is about $30. 00. Chrysler should be held accountable for this.
2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo: heater/defroster intermittently blows cold air while driving. While driving in the winter with heat and/or defrost on and temp control turned to warm/hot, suddenly there is cold air only. In rain/snow windshield will frost over making it impossible to see. This defect may only last a few minutes, maybe longer. If I stop the engine for a minute or two, and don't touch the heater controls, restart the car, there is heat again to defrost the glass. This however may only last a few minutes or maybe an hour. If the engine is stopped again and restarted, there is heat again. This is extremely dangerous as a cold defroster in a snowstorm causes ice buildup inside the car. I have seen many heat/defrost problems with this generation of gc's on the internet. I have to question why Chrysler has not issued a recall for such a danger to myself and others.
Intermittent heat and defrost it finally went out took it to repair shop the pigtail was melted and had to be replaced blow motor works but the dampener doors won't open to let heat or defrost work. Jeep says it is a common problem with the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited edition but they wont fix it because they say it is not a safety issue. If you cant see out of your windows you cant see to drive and you scrape the ice off the inside of the windows and they ice back up.
Jeep 2003 Grand Cherokee hvac unit. Automatic temperature control unit. No heat or ac on passenger side. First time last summer for two days, then it came back. Last week, no heat on passenger side. On 12/19/09 went to Jeep dealership, charged $ 99. 00 for diagnostic and told is a problem with the blend doors; price to fix $ 1,400- 2,100 . Searched the internet about it and found a Chrysler Jeep service bulletin # 24-001-04 dated January 20, 2004 concerning the same doors. In addition there are hundreds of Jeep drivers complaining about the same problem in several forums. I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes, reconnected and the heater was fine. Turned the vehicle off, turned back on ten minutes later and again no heat on passenger side.
I bought my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 60,000 miles on it in phoenix it was hot and I did not check the heater. The next night I drove it back to flagstaff and the temperature dropped to 25 degrees. I was not expecting to be in a vehicle without heat and was very cold and could not feel my feet by the time I got to my house. I have had frostbite and am very susceptible to the cold. I feel that while heat may not be as important as brakes or other major safety features it is still important.
Blend door malfunction- unable to regulate temperatures. Extremely costly fix.
The heating/cooling system on my 2003 Grand Cherokee is an insult to the other qualities of this vehicle! the internal doors that direct air through the system is extremely cheaply made. Mostly plastic-a very poor grade! the dealer says it will cost close to a $1000 to repair and he wouldn't guarantee it would not happen again. I think Chrysler should be responsible for something this poorly made. It is no wonder they are in trouble and the government is giving them billions of dollars to make more inferior Jeeps! I have not had the repairs made,I just don't have the money. So my wife has to ride to work in a luxury vehicle with no heater! there is no doubt this should be a recall!!!!! updated 10/23/09.
My 2003 Chrysler Jeep Grand Cherokee blows only cold air on passenger side. I was told that I needed heater case repairs for around &1000. 00. This is nuts as Jeep is aware of this on going problem and should issue a recall. They did issue an informational TSB (#24-001-04) in January of 2004 for stronger parts concerning this very problem. Lets try for a recall for all the unlucky people with this problem.

The contact owns a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Whenever the contact activated the heating unit mode selector, the driver's side heater and defroster failed to operate. The failures occurred without warning. The authorized dealer was notified and stated that the failure was related to the blend doors located in the heating unit. The vehicle has not been repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 46,000.
2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee - blend door failure rendering a/c and heat useless in vehicle. Total failure of vehicle a/c and heat system due to broken blend doors to repair would be $1500 - nothing done.
Loss of any and all heat. Started with the failure of the blend door actuator, resulting in the loss of heat on the passenger side. Blow cold air when setting is set at a high temperature. Then the recirculator door that fell off the small hinge and dropped on top of the blower disrupting the flow of any air though the heating system. Then the blower itself failed resulting in no air, hot or cold, being produced. Currently no heat or defrost is being produced resulting in limited visibility while driving and no heat when outside temperature today is at 1 degree above zero and over a foot of snow.
Also having problem with blend door. When using the heater, all of the sudden cold air would start blowing from vents. After a few minutes system would switch back to blowing warm air. Happens repeatedly.
The heater blend doors on my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee do not work. I do not have heat on this vehicle. Cost to repair at dealer $3000. This part breaks on all Jeep vehicles. Should force dealer to repair this small plastic part. It is unsafe to drive in winter time with no heat in vehicle.
2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee (wj). Heater blend doors failed, disabling the heating system. This is a very common problem, and extremely expensive to fix. In aerospace, this would be considered a safety issue, as the windscreen becomes impossible to defrost.
Blend doors failure, cold air only, no heat at all. $1,100. 00 plus repair bill. Only 50,000 mile on vehicle.
No heat on the drivers side. Dealer said they changed the blend door and recirculation door and actuators, all with in 2 hours. The job is quoted at 10 hours because they have to remove the whole dash. Since they fixed it,3 days later the code for the blend door came back up, and the dealer could not tell me why. All they said was don't worry about it.
I recently purchased a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland over the summer of 2008. I live in mn and it is rather cold here. Around October the heat in my Jeep when out, I took it into the shop and they told me it was the "blend door" that was causing the problems and its going to be $800 to fix it because removal of the dash is required and there is a lot of labor for a part that only costs $50. I have been doing my research and it seems this is a very common problem for Jeep owners and it is actually quite common when you reach around 60,000-80,000 miles my car had 74,000. I go to college and don't have that kind of money to fix it right now and I live in a very cold state, im very upset with Jeep right now if problems like this are happening to people something should be done about it.
Heater stuck on defrost.
Broken blend doors and re cir door.
Failure to defrost front window during cold weather = impossible to see traffic.
Blend air door failure. Repaired by Jeep dealership. Repair failed again in 6 months. Steering column noise. Failure of repair (TSB) in 2 months.
My ventilation system in my 2003 Grand Cherokee making noise, blowing cold air, for about a year now it started on one side first the passg. Side, so we put duck tape on the vents to keep the cold air from coming in and had a think blanket for my wife to keep warm that was last year on this year both side just blows cold air we dont know what to do dealer saids it cost about 1000-1500 to fixes we cant aford that can you please help. Also I replaces the blower resitor 3x already.
Good day, I'm filing a complaint with my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The heat has stop working. First it was the passenger side that stopped working and now simply no heat comes out at all. After extensive web researching, I have found a shocking number of fellow Jeep owners have the same problem, stemming back to 1990 models. Apparently the "blend actuators" are defective and start to go out one side at a time, finishing with the main actuator failing causing no heat what so ever!! repair facilities all state the same thing: entire dash must be removed to replace two-three different actuators costing an owner in excess of close to $1000. 00. This is not acceptable and extravagant!! from the number of complaints I see on a simple web search, I'm not the only one who feels this way!.
Air mixer door failure causes cold air to come out of the defroster and fogs the windshield up.
Vehicle has no heat or windshield defrost functions at all. Had not previously used vehicle until later in day so had not noticed failure which was now apparent from purchase in April 2007. Will be unable to use beyond summer months without major expenditure estimated to be between $1,000 & $2,000.
Driver sdie blows cold air when heat is on, passenger side is blows hot. No corrections made at this time.
Little to no heat on passenger side then no heat in truck. Heater blend air duct had to be replaced a cost of 89dollars for part and 900 dollars labor an as it turns out this is a very common problem with Jeeps .
The actuator doors on my 2003 Jeep with duel climate control failed. This seems to be a very common problem and could be dangerous because there is no defrost when these actuator doors break.
Blend doors on 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee intermittently do now work. In winter sometimes I can get heat, sometimes I cannot. Not only does this effect the comfort level in the vehicle but also is a safety issue in that it affects how well the defroster work. In the summer, sometimes I can get cold air out of the air conditioner and sometimes I cannot this is a well know malfunction with Grand Cherokees.
2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee safety issue visibility defroster/defogger system Chrysler knows that there is a problem and should issue a recall on the blend doors before some one gets killed for poor visibility. . . . They modified this problem in 004.
I own a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with 52,000 miles. The events leading up to the failure of the ventilation system were (1) rapid fogging of front windshield,(2) fogging of front passenger windows,(3) failure of passenger heat while still maintaining driver heat function, and (4) only cold air release on passenger side of Jeep. Consequently,(1) the windshield and front windows do not defog, and (2) no heat whatsoever comes from the passenger side floor and dashboard ventilation system. To correct this problem, a "blend air door" is necessary at a cost of approximately $1,200 inclusive of 7 hours of labor. According to the certified service department at the local Jeep dealer and online forums, this has become a very common problem for 2000-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with duel zone ventilation systems.

One day I turned on the heat and cold air was blowing from one side of the dash even when I had the heat turned on. I took it to the dealer, and now I have to pay about 1000 dollars to fix it. My car only has 40000 miles Jeep Grand Cherokee 2003.
