The manufacturer informed the consumer the mileage exceeded the limitations of the manufactures warranty at the time the expense was incurred. Updated 01/19/07.
The 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee blows cold air out of passenger's side vents, including the front window vent that was supposed to defrost the window. I had to stop and scrape inside and out when it was cold outside. This was dangerous!!! the defroster needed to operate properly, and there were thousands of Jeeps with this problem.
I turned on the heater/defroster to clear the windshield and only cold air would come out. After speaking to a few dealerships the all agreed on the same problem. It is the blend doors. It will cost me 90. 00 for parts and 600. 00 in labor for a vehicle that I had 4 months and only 44,000 miles. It is hard to drive in the winter with fogged up windows. Not to mention unsafe. I will keep the old parts.
2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee heating system blend door.
: the contact stated while driving 65 mph, the heater became inoperable without warning. The vehicle was driven to the dealer who determined the blend door needed to be replaced.
Broken heater and defrost on passengers side. Bad blend doors.
Ventilation system fails, blowing some cold, some hot air out of different vents. Nothing I do will stop the air.
Blend door failure - in addition to creating an interior temperature control problem, this can become a safety issue when the defroster is needed. Repair costs can exceed $1,000 since the dash must be removed to replace this relatively inexpensive part.
Jeep Grand Cherokee hvac blend door has malfunctioned on my vehicle and thousands of others. Jeep needs to fix this problem that was caused by a manufacturing defect.
In my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee the heat on passenger side would not work. Driver side would blow hot air but passenger side would blow cold. I just got it fixed today and the problem was blend air and recirculation doors broken.
2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited v-8 4x4 with climate control. The hvac fan quit functioning. When I took the vehicle into the dealer I purchased it from, I was told, without them doing any teardown, that it was a common occurrence for the hvac wire harness and connector behind the dash to overheat and melt down. With the vehicle being out of warranty, the estimated repair cost in 2005 at over $1200 in labor plus the wiring harness and a set of 3 air doors, I could not then nor now afford repairs and have done without heat or cooling ever since. To eliminate the possibility of a fire from the damaged wiring, I removed the fuse, which I recall to be 40 amps. I strongly feel that possibility of a fire from the overheated wiring is just cause for a recall to replace the wiring harness and related parts damaged by the apparent short circuit caused by the overheating. I also suspect that the cruise control was damaged also as it hasn't functioned properly since.
