1 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2019

The driver seat wobbles and shifts within the seat itself not the bolts that hold the seat bracket down. I believe it is the inside base of the seat. I fear that if an accident were to occur if the seat will stay mounted to the vehicle.

2 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2019

The drivers seat mounting bracket (front, left) has broken during normal use 8 times. The part was welded back together each time so far. Today, 3 or the 4 mounting brackets broke at once while I was getting into the vehicle, the 2 rear brackets and the same front bracket that typically snaps. This time I wasn't driving, but a few of the other breaks occurred while on the highway, or during normal acceleration from a stoplight. One break also occurred during a left turn on a city street and I nearly lost control when the seat leaned to the side. The first break happened in 2009 with around 45,000 miles on the vehicle, and they have happened on a regular basis since then.

3 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2018

"takata recall" my driver's seat has been replace once, at my own expense, due the seat becoming extremely "wobbly" and being broken from the bease frame and frame under seat. I was on highway driving when the seat first became slightly unstable, had I unfornatunately been struck from the rear, I would've been violently thrown forward. I have researched this matter and found that there had been a recall for the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo wj, yet I found nothing on this site. It costs me $600, which is a lot for a disabled veteran. But my safety comes first. Please look into this.

4 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2018

The Jeep was stationary when there was a sound, when I started driving the seat began to wobble from side to side (left to right) and it felt like the seat could come off, I had to brace my leg against the door too keep the seat semi-stable. Looking into this issue I found a whole website dedicated to complaints, as well as a whole website dedicated to selling new brackets to counteract this problem. If a third party having to sell parts for a specific issue isnt telling on how common it is, I don't know what is. I have yet to bring it in to the shop, however according to the complaints its an issue with them making weak brackets than can fail during a crash. Here is the website documenting complaints, as well as the website for parts. . Read more...

5 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2017

The driver's seat bracket has broken at 3 of the 4 points where it is attached to the floor frame. The seat is very unsafe and moves dangerously with every turn, braking or acceleration. This is obviously a very common failure in the 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees, yet Chrysler has done nothing to address it. How many people are driving around with this potentially fatal defect? how many must be injured or killed before action is taken to correct this obvious design and manufacturing defect?.

7 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2016

I just took my vehicle in to our local dealership and they tell me they can not "fix" or repair the heated seat issue because they may rip the seats. Really? OH and that they will not be responsible if they do. . .

8 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2016

#1 March 204 front angle on electric seat track clean break on track, seat unstable and unsafe vehicle underivable. Replaced with salvage unit did not replace seat frame in lower cushion re used original seat. #2 1/24/16 front angle on electric track broke again, seat frame also damaged. Took apart seat frame came a part in multiple pieces with broke wields and broken metal points. Had to again buy salvage seat, could not find exact match, had to swap seat track frame, cushions and track wiring harness. Have had to work on this seat twice using all oe parts no aftermarket parts, both incidents have left the vehicle undriveable and unsafe till the part was replaced, second time seat snapped upon braking and flung me rearward to where I lost control of the vehicle, fortunately I was on a country road and was able to get of the road safely but any other incident myself or others could have been hurt I would like to give a more through description but I'm limited on characters, I also still have all the broken parts as proof. Please email me for more details. Chrysler and Jeep should be held accountable for this part that is poorly manufactured it could kill someone. Please email so (I can give you full details, this has happened to this part twice!.

12 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2014

The 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee seat track has a weak point on the rear scissor assembly. When you start to notice a wobble or click it means one of the tiny connecting pieces has broken. Eventually the other side will also break allowing you to lift the entire seat up. The seat bracket that connects the seat to the floor of the Jeep cracked. I started to do research and found out that this a very common issue and have caused many accidents. I have looked into getting the issue fixed and found it to be very difficult. I have found two web sites that list complaints from other people that this has happened to. I really feel that this is a safety issue and something needs to be done. . Read more...

13 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2013

The metal bracket under my driver's seat has completely broken/snapped apart. Therefore, I'm wobbling around while driving my vehicle and it's a huge safety issue. I was told there was no recall on my model for this issue, but apparently there are a number of complaints regarding same.

14 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2013

I was taking a turn at less than 15 mph when I heard a snap, and I felt a slight jolt to the left. After taking the turn, I began to accelerate back up to speed when my seat suddenly caused me to lean back. If I were at a higher rate of speed at either the turn or when I was accelerating I feel I would most likely have been in an accident. Upon inspection of my seat I found the bracket to my seat had snapped and caused my drivers seat to tilt backward and forward and side to side under acceleration, braking and turning. I feel as if this is a severe safety issue and needs to be recalled, especially as I am not the only one having this issue.

15 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2013

While driving down a local road. I was coming up to a red light and as I was stopping the driver seat made a popping sound and the seat back was leaning toward the right. I pulled over to see what happened and part of the frame had broken. The seat is now wobbly and leans to far one way. Luckily my husband was able to strip the seat and weld the frame to fix it. Some time later the bottom frame that connect the seat to the floor had broken and my husband welded it. It is a very dangerous situation that could had ended a lot worse if the seat frame had broken to the point that effected my driving. I tried calling Jeep directly but basically got an "it not an issue we cover or fix and your on your own". I did some research nline about this issue and is a very common safety problem. People are even starting to sell beefier frames for Jeep seats and sell for $200. Jeep is looking at a very large law suit if someone gets seriously injured due to this defect. But one thing is for certain I will never buy a Jeep again!.

16 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2013

Driver's side front left seat bracket has sheared while going over hilly roads. Seat now leans while turning and accelerating.

17 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2013

My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee front driverside seat frame cracked. I was just sitting in the car when it went pop. Now the seat rocks and is very dangerous. The federal government needs to investigate before someone gets killed. There are 100's of complaints online about this problem when is the government going to do something.

18 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2013

I was getting into my car and sat in the driver side seat. I heard a popping sound and my seat moved. I got out of my car to check my seat and notice it was loose.

19 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

Seat bracket is broken, resulting in entire seat being loose. Repaired a few years back at the dealer by replacing entire bracket. Obviously, the part is defective, as there are hundreds of complaints of the exact same thing happening in the NHTSA on line database.

20 Seats problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2012

The drivers side seat track has broken on two sides. This is due to a defective part on the seat track where the metal is too thin and has cracked. I have read complaint after complaint online. This needs to be recalled before someone is hurt or killed. I cannot even find one to replace in a salvage yard due to the fact that it is such a common problem, people have bought any one that is available.

21 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2012

Drivers seat, left side front and rear brace holding seat to floor cracked apart. I have read that many Jeeps from this time period have had this problem of seperation due to inferior / thin steal as the bracket. Fixing is by welding - does not hold and entire bracket holding the seat to the floor needs to be replaced.

22 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

The front driver's seat frame weld on the left side had previously broken on me. Now the frame weld has broken on the right side of the seat where the base of the seat meets the seat back causing the seat to tilt back and to the right. The whole seat now wobbles. This is a defect in the seat frame design because the breaks are at weld points. The metal is thin at these points.

23 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2012

Seats base frame fails with separation of metal support making seat unsound. Located on drivers seat, left front.

24 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2011

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo driver's seat mounting bracket broken. Seat wobbles terribly. No auto parts store stocks this item and according to burdick Chrysler Jeep, it is no longer manufactured. According to Jeep, there has been no recall, yet according to vlane. Com, carsurvey. Org, aboutvehicle. Com and other such internet sources, this is not an isolated incident. There appears to have been thousands of complaints.

25 Seats problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2011

While driving the driver's seat frame bracket snapped and the driver's seat became wobbly as I drove. Unable to get a safety inspection sticker in massachusetts until the seat frame is repaired/replaced. This is the first time I have had this problem with 2004 Grand Cherokee. It has occurred twice with a 2003 Grand Cherokee I own also. Very unsafe to drive in this condition.

26 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2011

Drivers side seat mounting bracket broke on entry to vehicle. This caused the seat to rock back and forth while driving especially during turns. Took it to dealer and they told me that the seat track was also broken. They have been unable to find a replacement track so far because Jeep no longer makes the part. I was told that it can't be welded because of liability issues. They estimate the cost to repair at $300+ if the part can be found. This seems to be a common occurrence lately and I'm forced to pay for a design defect.

27 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2011

Front seat brackets sheared off, seat unstable and will tilt backwards. Was told by a certified welder / wdeling inspector that it could not be welded, and that the bracket was a defective, sub-standard, and unrepairable.

28 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2011

I was backing my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee out of the driveway when I heard a snap and then the front seat started wobbling back and forth. I pulled back into my driveway and that's when my husband and I noticed the metal that connects the driver's seat had completely snapped. It was a blessing that I was not traveling at a high rate of speed or was far from home, I would hate to think what would have happened had I been on the highway.

29 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2011

04 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo driver seat track bracket broken. Seat is now unsafe.

30 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2011

2004 Grand Cherokee laredo. This will be the second time since 2004 replacing the drivers side front seat. It broke in 2008 and again in 2011. The seat starts to rock back and forth like its loose and there is no way to tighten the seat. . So you have to simply live with it, very unsafe in my eyes. If I was in a accident I think the seat would snap off and I would be greatly injured!.

31 Seats problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2011

The seat brackets for the driver's seat on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee have snapped. This causes the seat to rock back and forth when accelerating or breaking. Will cost between 500-800 to have the brackets replaced.

32 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2011

Drivers seat bracket has broken causing seat to severely rock. I have seen numerous complaints. Needs to be repaired by a welder or replaced. Currently holding together with a hose clamp.

33 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2010

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo with 107,000 miles. Today, 12/9/2010, the drivers side seat bracket came loose. I believe after searching the internet, that it is a mounting bracket. Some other Jeep cherokee owners complained of this problem. The seat now rocks when I brake and accelerate. I am concerned that if I get into a collision the seat will not be locked in and the seat belt will not function.

34 Seats problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

Front driver side seat started to wobble and then ended up snapping. Metal broke in the front left of the seat right by where the metal piece is that lifts the seat. I drive with my seat all the way down and is never raised. The seat moves every bend and anytime I accelerate or brake.

35 Seats problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2010

The seat frame on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee has broken for the second time. The seat frame is not strong enough for a normal weight adult male.
