Starting at around 55,000 miles while I would be driving my Jeep, the car would stop moving but the engine would rev as I pushed on the pedal. I would not be able to go in drive, neutral or reverse. I would have to put the car in park and turn off the vehicle, wait a few seconds then restart the car. I have had my car at my mechanics as well as a Jeep dealership, a total of 5 times, now ready to go back in for the 6th time. Each time I am told the problem is fixed and a day or 2 later it happens again. When I call to let the mechanic know I am having the problem again, I am then told that neither they nor the dealership know what the problem is and to bring it back in. Leaving me without a car for days. I have spent a lot of money on this vehicle and do not want to spend thousands more fixing a problem that is not fixable. I have 2 small children, and fear that somebody is going rear end the car when is just stops. I have contacted the manufacturer of Jeep and was told only "certain" 2006 Jeeps were under recall, mine was not one. All I could do was make a complaint. So I made a verbal and now written complaint, hoping something gets done.
When driving my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo the lights around the pnd21 will circle all of the gears and either go into neutral or 1st gear on its own while you are driving it, it happens at least 2-3 times a week. It is very dangerous when you are driving down the road - have taken to dealer said it needs electronic shift module at a cost of $750. Called customer service Jeep they said they couldn't help with the cost of repair. I have looked into this problem and it seems that there a lot of these same 2006 Jeeps with the same problem. They said my Jeep has to many miles 85,000 - but it seems like it happens to call Jeeps no mater what the mileage - I think this is a defective part and they should make it right - now matter how many miles. This is a very dangerous problem. I have almost been in 3 accidents due to this problem.
The contact owns a 2006 Grand Cherokee. While driving at a speed of 40 mph, the vehicle seemed as if it would shift gears on its owns. The contact noticed the problem eight times. The vehicle was taken to both a local dealership and a local repair shop to find the cause for failure. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired at the time of the complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 79,000.
At a stop sign, short of the cross walk, with foot on brake pedal car in drive waiting for traffic to clear so I can turn right on to the primary street. Remove foot from brake and 2006 Jeep cherokee begins to move backwards. The is no incline or decline at this stop sign to allow for gravity to move car. Had to re-apply brake, put car into park. Shut off and restarted before proceeding. This same difficulty has now happened on at least 6 different occasions and dealer reports no mechanical issue evident to cause auto to move on its own in reverse. Yesterday, in the omaha world herald paper a story appeared describing an accident with a 2005 Jeep cherokee.
The transmission in my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been slipping. I had it checked out and I was told it is ok. Then a few weeks later, I take off from a stop light and my engine revs to 3000 rpm and I am losing speed in heavy traffic. Then the engine light came on. So I take it to the dealer. They check it out and tell me it is the electronics in the shifter that is bad. I ask what is wrong and the service advisor takes me to the mechanic. He tells me about the issue and says that they have seen alot of these issues and the back order on the part is 450 parts in the negative. I think this is a potential problem and should be investigated for a possible recall.
Transmission does not shift down when stepping on gas. Most often in the 1200-1500 rpm range. Vehicle tries to stay on same gear and is not shifting e. G. From 5th gear to 4th. If gas pedal is stepped on all the way, vehicle shifts down 2 gears, e. G. From 5th to 3rd, and spikes up to 6000 rpm. This takes about 1. 5. Seconds, leading to dangerous situations when changing lanes, entering a highway, or speeding away from critical situations. Already experienced several severe close encounters. The spike in rpm will lead to property damage since the transmission will blow soon.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The check engine indicator light illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer, and the computer stated that the component etax was failing. The dealer stated that the repair part was on back order. The current mileage was 36,690, and failure mileage was 35,800.
I purchased a Grand Cherokee laredo 2006 invoice no. 392118) on March 26, 2007 in tamiami Chrysler-Jeep, 8250 sw 8 street, miami FL 33144. A few days after its purchase I noticed a little jump when I accelerated, then I carried the car to tamiami Chrysler service on April 2, 2007. They informed me that it has transmission problem so my car must remain there for a transmission replacement. Of course I am using a rent car but I want my car back. It is too much time (25 days) and their answer: transmission is not available.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While coming to a stop, the vehicle hesitated as if it would shut off. When the contact depressed the brake pedal, the gears shifted and the engine or transmission jumped. The failure occurred every time the vehicle was driven. The vehicle is currently being repaired by an authorized dealer. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 5,000 and current mileage was 23,000.
When attempting to accelerate after a stop, vehicle will only coast after attempting to accelerate. This also happens after making a turn; the vehicle will initially attempt to begin to move then will only coast while gas pedal is pressed. I have almost been in a couple of accidents because people think I am accelerating and they almost run into the back of me.
When slowing down to turn at intersection ,and reapplying gas engine rpm goes up but car doesn't move ,then all of a sudden it lunges forward. This has also happened at complete stop. Then tries to go but then jumps forward. Which at times it throws you back in your seat.
We purchased in oct. 2006,a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4, v6 with 5 speed auto transmission, VIN 1j4gr48k16c121106. There is a safety problem related to this vehicle and transmission. Problem: the vehicle has no hill holding capabilities. In other words, when stopped on a hill, the brake must be held on with your left foot and your right foot on the gas pedal in order to move forward with out the vehicle drifting backward. In all the automatic vehicles that I have owned since 1958, including 1993 and 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokees, none pf them were without hill holding capabilities. The first time I stopped on a hill with this vehicle, I drifted backwords and almost hit the vehicle behind me before I realized what was happening. This to me is a very unsafe condition and something damiler Chrysler should be addressing. In expressing my problem to d. C. Customer service, I just got lip service. This is why I'm expressing my problem to you in hope that a solution can be found.
My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a serious safety hazard. When the vehicle is started and placed into reverse, on 2 separate occasions, the vehicle jumped approx. 15 feet backwards. Also, one time while the vehicle was in drive, sitting in traffic, the engine revved on it's own and it jumped forward approx 15 feet. In all three incidences, the brakes where depressed and where not able to hold the vehicle back. The brakes had to be released and then re-applied to get it to stop.
2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cyl car was in traffic started moving to 25-30 mph then car started bucking , loosing power as I applied my foot on pedal, no signs of over heating (gauge was less than 1/2 mark of c/and h. . Moved from left lane to shoulder with car running it basically was moving at 5 mph as I applied my foot on gas. Once in park it idled with some shaking , I tried to move forward with car in drive the car went reverse, I called for help and the nysdot witnessed the car go in reverse with the car in drive. Car has been towed to dealership. 12,000 miles. Fall of 2005 I had brought the car in for service as I felt that the car wasn't going into the proper gears almost not shifting properly lack of power, dealer couldn't find anything. . . . . . . .
