My Jeep will not go over 30 to 35 mph without reaching 3000 rpms it will not change gears it is stuck I believe in second gear.
Tl the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that there was a failure with the gear box. While driving 55 mph, the gear suddenly slipped out of fifth into first gear and caused the vehicle to jerk and brake suddenly, which nearly caused a crash. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer (riverhead Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram, 642 w main st, riverhead, NY 11901, (631) 727-1040) and manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 85,000.
Esm (electronic shift module) is faulty on these models; 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This issue does not allow the shifter to communicate with the transmission. Therefore the vehicle does not know what gear it needs to be in. After having reresearched online this is a know, common issue. This is a serious danger as the vehicle goes into "limp" mode; (won't properly accelerate). This can happen under many driving conditions, city or highway. Imagine entering traffic at a busy intersection and suddenly losing the ability to accelerate. I have experienced this, as have many other individuals according to internet research. It seems that Chrysler knows of the issue. Why hasn't there been a recall?.
While driving the vehicle has a tendency to either not change gears (rev up) or even slip into neutral. It's creating a safety issue especially driving at highway speed. At times I am able to get to the side of the road turn vehicle off and shift it back in gear which sometimes I have to do it more than one time.
Jeep Grand Cherokee 2006. While driving car will fail to change gears. Very dangerous on expressway. Transmission stalls at will.
I was recently driving on residential road going about 35mph under normal conditions and the automatic Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo 2006 stalls. The check engine light appears. Pressing on the gas pedal will rev the engine but it is like the Jeep is in neutral. Everything else seems to work accept the car is not in any gear. The dashboard indicates the car is in drive. I have to coast off to the side of the road. I turn the ignition off before restarting, then the car seems to run fine for awhile. This has happened 3 times over the last month. The first time I took the car into a local Jeep dealer where they could only fine old codes in the Jeep computer system noting inactive transmission problems which they since cleared and were unable to do much else. An error code for the O2 sensor was also found and the O2 sensor was replaced. I was told to try it out and let them know if it happens again. That was about 10 days ago. Since then I have had two incidents that have occurred over this weekend, I have yet to contact the dealer which I plan to do this week.
