1 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2020

The vehicle's gauges will turn off while driving randomly. The speedometer, odometer, tachometer, fuel gauge will all zero out for unspecified amounts of time. Sometimes 10 seconds, other times until the vehicle is started back up. This occurs when the vehicle is in motion. Sometimes it causes the car to completely shut off and come back on. While shut off, the car sounds like it is struggling to continue its forward progress. This happens every couple thousand miles (2-3 months apart). Once the car corrects itself, the check engine light appears. After starting the car 2-3 times, the misfire corrects itself and the check engine light turns off.

2 Check Engine Light On problem

On several occasions the Grand Cherokee has suddenly shut off while driving. The vehicle loses all power, loses power steering and brakes causing an extremely dangerous situation. Dash lights all go out. Upon restart, check engine light stays on but vehicle functions again.

3 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2015

The check engine (gas cap) warning light came on. Then I was backing out of our driveway, stopped to put garage door down and the vehicle quit (while in reverse and it was idling). The vehicle started right up when I put it in park but then quit again approximately 2 hours later when I was pulling into a parking space. We took it into a dealership in nampa and they stated that they fixed the problem with the check engine light but they did not know why the vehicle quit. They informed us that there was a recall on the ignition switch and that could be the problem but parts to fix it were not available. I called Chrysler and they told me parts may be available in September. I am afraid to drive the vehicle because we live in a remote mountain area and if the vehicle quits, I will not have power brakes or power steering when driving along the river on a very curvy, treacherous road. I cannot afford to leave the vehicle parked until parts are available at an apparently unknown date. Chrysler did suggest that I have the ignition replaced and they may or may not reimburse me. The dealership said the parts they currently have may or may not fix the problem. Can you please tell me what you would suggest? what happens if the vehicle quits and there is an accident? is Chrysler and/or the dealership liable for any injury and/or damages? thank you.

4 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/16/2015

Driving 30 mph, after about 3 miles of driving my check engine light came on. Followed the tips to check the code and it says "transmission over temp". Everything seems to be ok at the time but I'm sure this will eventually cause a problem. A couple months ago the whole instrument cluster cut off and on 2 times in a couple minute window but that seems to have been an isolated incident since it hasn't happened since.

5 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2014

All warning lights came on and gauges shut down while driving on the highway. After getting off the highway, and it did it again then my vehicle completely shut down. I then restarted my car and the check engine light stayed on. I have filed a complaint in 2013 with your department and with Chrysler. I again talked to Chrysler today and they are telling me there's noting they can do to fix it at this time, because they don't have the parts available. I'm afraid that this can lead to a bigger problem if it shuts down while on the highway. What can I do to get this resolved?.

7 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

The check engine light would come on and go off. . I was driving around 60 mph the car shifted into neutral and lost power. . . I was able to steer to the side of the road but I was in three lanes wide of traffic on the highway and had I not been in the lane closed to the side of the road I could have been badly injured. Within the time frame of three weeks it happened 4 times. . . All when I was driving highway speeds except once the car shifted into neutral on its own and powered down when I was at a stop sign in town. The check engine lights comes and goes so fast by the time I can get to a repair shop and have it scanned its usually off. I was able to scan it once and it read a code for "transmission control module". . . The car runs great but I don't understand why it just powers down. How many people have to get injured from this failure before someone fixes it! this is absurd!.

8 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2012

While driving on a highway, I noticed my car slowed down and even after applying the gas pedal, it didn't help. After pressing the brakes and pushing the gas pedal again, then it started accelerating. The engine light would blink and lately it stays on. The check engine light stays on and off but once I noticed that when I started the car again, the check engine light was off but I lost one front headlight. I was told by the dealership that I needed to replace a spark plug which cost me almost 300. 00. Now the check engine light is on again and I suspect as other owners have shared it in the forum that it's the ignition switch that's faulty. I just wish NHTSA would do something about this ASAP. The letter came the mail stating there is a recall on my car but nothing is being done to correct the problem. Are you waiting for severe accidents to happen before you really force Jeep to correct this issue??? do people have to lose their lives before you act on this problem?.

9 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2011

While accelerating attempting to merge onto highway vehicle loses all power and transmissions seems to disengage and only coasts. Car acts like if I shifted into neutral but gear selected is still drive. Check engine light illuminates and engine responds to acceleration but no movement is given by transmission. Rpm gauge goes all the way down to idle. Had to pull over the side of the road place in park, shut engine off and restart the vehicle then continue. This is a very dangerous and frightening situation, all power is lost and no control of acceleration is given. This is the 5th time in a year time span, this has happened. Started at about 50000 miles. This has almost caused rear end collisions as well, please look into this matter. I cannot imagine what other less skilled drivers do especially carrying children or pets very dangerous, needs a recall or sb.

10 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2011

Engine suddenly stops, all lights on dashboard come on, unable to steer properly and control vehicle. . . Breaking doesn't work well either when this happens. . On occassion I have been able to re-start the engine immediately but the check engine light comes on and stays on for a few days. Has happened while driving, while parked, while idling in traffic. . . I only have the ignition key in use I do not have a heavy key chain. Extremely scary when this has happened on interstate!! please let me know if there is a fix for this problem. I have taken it to a shop several times and they cannot find anything and tell me there are no recalls on my vehicle.

11 Check Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2008

2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee/ 5. 7 hemi check engine light came on, engine started missing, loss of power, failure occurs once vehicle is started. So far a tune-up,#6 cylinder have the problem, intake plenum seals, mds solenoid, #6 fuel injector and a module powertrain control, have been changed, now I am told the problem is a bad lifter for the #6 cylinder, and that daimlerchrysler is aware of this problem and since not many complaints have been made, I as the owner of the vehicle should have to pay to have the engine with the internal problem repaired, the vehicle is 2006 , limited with 51,938 miles, the vehicle is still out of service, at my residence, I am at a loss that daimlerchrysler is aware of this problem and is not addressing the issue.
