I bought my vehical used in June. (2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with 160,000 miles) I took it back to dealer where they told me the battery had issues and they "fixed" the problem. I'd be driving and if I came to a stop I would lose all power and my engine would turn off. At a drive through, it would die, at a stop light, die. In October my issues started up again. Now the same things are happening but every light on the dash lights up, flashes/flutter/flickers, headlights shut off, radio shuts off, hvac system shuts off, but engine will run for about 20min then I lose all power where ever I am, I'll be driving down the highway going 55mph and the engine shuts off. Pulling into the store engine shuts off. On my way to work engine just shut off while going down the highway. Coasted as far as I could to get to a safe place to stop. Now it won't start again.
Tl-the contact owns 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the vehicle shut off almost causing an accident. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received a recall notification however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 142,000. Ad.
I was driving to work down an incline/hill on 9/2, there was traffic ahead, the engine shut off and the breaks locked. I pulled the e-break and swerved off the side of the road, luckily without any crash. I was able to restart the vehicle but had a tow truck tow it to my local mechanic who verified there was no problem with the breaks, and notified me of the recall p41 on the ignition switch which can cause the engine to shut off and power steering and breaks to lock while driving. The Jeep dealership told me not only are the parts not available but they don't know when they will be available and they can't diagnose this as the problem without replicating the problem. This is a known issue so it is unclear to me why the issue would have to be replicated. I have a baby and do not want to drive this car, as recommended by Jeep customer service and the dealership, and risk accident to myself or others until the part is in and fixed. I can't believe Jeep would ask me to continue driving this vehicle not only knowing there is a risk but an actual problem. I think it's fair that Jeep provide me with a safe alternative form of transportation in the meantime.
Upon preparing to stop and/or make a left hand turn (multiple incidents) vehicle's ignition shuts off. This is very dangerous as I was attempting a left turn on a busy industrial 4 lane road when the vehicle shut off mid-turn. I had two small children with me (1 and 4) and am extremely lucky I was not hit, from both sides. My knee sits approximately 8 inches from the ignition switch so I know it was not bumped.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving at 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart. The failure recurred several times. The contact received a notice for NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000. Updated 6/11/cn the consumer stated the vehicle shut off and a message displayed invalid key. A red blinking light illuminated on the instrument panel. It took at least five attempts to re-start the vehicle. Also, while driving 35-45 mph, the vehicle down shifted very hard and then up shifted to a higher gear. Updated 06/23/jb.

I purchased this car in 8/2012 for my daughter to get to college. It is a 900 mile trip and would be used for local campus driving until her return in 4/2013. We bought the car with the hope of getting 3 years use out of it. On her initial trip down route 95 so. I received a call at 1 am from her in SC telling me the car shut down at 70 mph. The wheel locked up and she lost control of the car and fortunately with the help of her passenger forced the wheel to maneuver to the shoulder. Thank god a tractor trailed was not behind her! I told her to wait and try to start the car. It started a half hour later. This episode continued until she arrived at school the next day. A 15 hour trip took 21 hours. She was frightened to death. We contacted the local Chrysler dealer and they told us it was the valve body of the transmission which we replaced ($2100). As it turns out on the return trip the car transmission was over heating and the shutting down scenario continued. We brought it to a local Chrysler dealer here in NJ and they told us there was problem in the engine and that they would have to take it apart in order to find out what the problem was. I stopped right there. I found out through my local mechanic of 20 years that he read the bulletin on the engine problems from Chrysler. It said the valves were not shutting down all the way thus creating carbon in the heads and stalling the engines. I need action from Chrysler and it seems the dealerships don't care about safety. This is a major safety issue. We can't use the car that we paid $10,000 (plus $2100) for and now I have to get my daughter back to college and don't have a safe vehicle. How do I get Chrysler to fix the problem? I can be contacted at my information below. Thank you, santo solazzo.

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving 45-50 mph, the steering and brakes locked and then the vehicle shut off. The ebs light flashes on the instrument panel and the vehicle has to be restarted. The contact has been to three different dealers and was informed that they could not duplicate the failure. She was given a black box for a week to record the failures, but no failures occurred during that week. On one occasion, she was informed that the ebs system was not registering and the code was exsp-bas. The system failure was witnessed by family members. The vehicle is currently at the dealer. The current mileage was 8,666 and failure mileage was 3059. Updated 03/14/08. The consumer stated the vehicle lost power on several occasions.
