The local dealer says Chrysler corporation has not made the replacement part available for the ignition switch. I have received two safety recall notices in the past year and Chrysler is apparently still not supplying dealers with the required parts.
I waited a long time to receive the recall notice from Jeep and received it late in 2015. I called my local dealership, world Jeep Chrysler Dodge ram in shrewsbury NJ in October and then again November 11, 2016. Both times I was told my name would go on a list and I would be called to have the new ignition installed on my vehicle ASAP. It is not February 11, 2016 and my Jeep has not been repaired and the dealership has not called me. I fear for the safety of myself and my 2 children every time I drive my car.
All four interior door handles are breaking. The rear passenger handle has completely crumbled and will not open the door causing concern about a quick exit during an emergency.
I have been receiving recall notices from Chrysler since September 2014. I did everything the recall notice prompted me to do until the parts came in. I called the dealership 3 times over the last year to see if the parts came in. I really did not have any issues until August 3,2015. I was driving down the street and my car just turned off. I had no power steering but I was able to pull over with no problem and there was no traffic around me. I new it was the ignition switch issue so I called the dealer and they told me the parts for that recall are not available so there is nothing that can be done. This is my only form of transportation and I am a nursing student and can not afford to buy a new car. I have continued to drive it and on 3 separate occasions it has turned off while I was driving. Luckily I have either been in slower traffic or sitting at a stop light. This week on 3 occasions I went to start my car and it would not start. I called aaa but by the time they arrived it started again. The Jeep dealership told me I should not drive the car, I asked them if they could get a car for me to drive until the parts come in since this is a safety issue due to their recall and they said they could not do that. This is the only transportation I have. I go to school full time, am doing my clinicals and perceptorship at the hospital and work part time to pay my rent. I do not know what I am supposed to do if they do not have the parts to repair my car and this could be a life threatening problem. Yesterday (9/23/2015) I stopped by baxter Jeep in omaha, ne to see if they could get me in to check my car because it didn't start the first time I tried to start it that morning. They told me they couldn't get it in until October 7. I went to another auto repair servicer and they confirmed it was the ignition switch pertaining to the recall.
Chrysler has issued and official recall #p41, in June 2014. Till now, 15 month latter, the corrective parts (ignition switch) to substitute the defective one were not developed. What is Chrysler waiting, someone to die ? what the vehicle owners should do, just keep on driving the risky vheicles untill get seriously injured or even dead ? no one is checking what Chrysler is doing (or not doing !!!) ? no one makes them solve the problem ? regards david coelho.
Seat belt don't retract, heater only runs on high, headlights are not clear and dim.
VIN: 1j8hr48n26c196247 year: 2006 make: Jeep model: Grand Cherokee 4x4 number of open recalls: 1 recall date: September 3, 2014 manufacturer recall number: p41 summary: some Jeep commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles may experience an unintended change in ignition switch position while driving. Safety risk: this may result in loss of engine power, power steering, and braking assist increasing the risk of a crash and disabling one or more of the vehicles safety features including the frontal airbags. Remedy: Chrysler intends to repair vehicles free of charge (parts and labor). However, the part required to provide a permanent remedy for this condition is currently not available. Chrysler is making every effort to provide the part as quickly as possible. As you can see from the recall above, this is serious and puts the driver, who happens to be our daughter, at high risk of a crash. My husband and our daughter took this Jeep too a local dealership today to have them address the recall and repair it, only to be told that Chrysler has not provided the parts yet. This recall was put in place 9 months ago, Chrysler either needs to provide a permanent remedy right now or buy all of the affected vehicles back from the owners at blue book price/value.
All four of the interior door handle plastic parts (I believe they are called cups) have broken. This has caused the handles themselves to become loose and unstable. The handle on one of the doors (right rear door) has also now broken, causing that door to be unusable from the inside, which has created a safety issue in case of an emergency or accident. Upon investigating this issue via internet search, I have come to understand that this is an ongoing issue with many Jeeps manufactured between 2005-2010. The safety issues are urgent and need to be addressed by Jeep immediately.
Since I got the recall notice from Chrysler and I immediately call them to make an appointment but before I went they told me they didn't have the part for the car. They told me to wait until they got the part. So I waited. Today (November 20) my car didn't start when I tried to start it and the car made a clicking sound. So I gave up and when I turn it all off and took the key from the switch, the car still made the beeping sound like if the key was still in the switch. So I locked my car and this evening I went to get something from my car and the battery is dying. So now I can't go to work tomorrow because my car isn't starting. I just recently called Chrysler and they told me that they can't do anything because they didn't have the part and they told me they can't give me a rental because they dont give them for recalls and they told me to call the Chrysler main phone and I did. Chrysler said that they couldn't give a rental car because it's not for the recall and they said they couldn't do anything to fix my car until they make the part. So now I have a broken Jeep outside parked.
While driving, all of my lights on my instrument panel start to flash. I am unable to tell the speed at which I am going because it the speedometer stops working as well. The fans stop blowing and this has happened over and over. I received a speeding ticket because of being unable to tell how fast I was driving. I have taken my car to a Chrysler/Jeep dealership and they were unable to do anything or figure out why it happened. I have taken it to my local garage and they are unable to find out why it is happening. This has been going on for almost two years and keeps getting worse and worse. I have contacted Chrysler/Jeep via email and was told that I should take it back to a dealership to have it looked at but "if it is monetary reimbursement" that I was looking for, that wasn't going to happen. I can google this issue and find hundreds of people with the same problem online with no resolution! this isn't just a problem that I am having and until it causes someone to have an accident and kill either themselves or someone else, Chrysler doesn't seem to care!!!.
The ignition switch on my car has been recalled by Jeep. Currently they are telling me that the car is "operable" so I can drive it until the part comes in, but they have no idea when the part will be available. This recall causes the loss of power steering and can cause the car to stall at any time. . Yet they consider this operable. Today my car stalled due to this recall and I came very close to rolling into another car. They are telling me that they will not offer a rental because the car still turns on. I feel this is inexcusable and unsafe because I am out driving around in a car that can stall on any point in time. (I do a lot of highway driving, and this is very dangerous to my life. ) I feel they should be responsible for providing a rental in this situation.
Broken car door handle/panel on both the front driver and passenger doors. Driver side is getting so bad, I am concerned and nervous that any day now, I won't be able to open door from inside the vehicle. Brought it to a local Jeep dealership approximately 6 months ago when I first noticed this and was informed this issue is not covered under "extended warranty" and cost would be over $1000 to replace entire door panel and that's just for one door. Except for this issue which is beyond my control, I keep my vehicle in excellent condition and it has very low miles, but the unsightly door handle/panels just makes the appearance of my Jeep look like trash besides the fact that this is now becoming a safety issue.
Notified in September 2014 of faulty ignition switch problem; to this date October 2015; still no fix or parts availabe for potential safety hazard.
Three of four door handles have broken, first two being rarely used doors. This is a flaw and safety hazard. Cost to repair extremely expensive from manufacturer.
Aug 21 2014. The interior dome light was left in the on position, which drained the car battery completely. Upon recharging the battery all of the lights in the drivers console where on, the electronic stability control light was on, the air bag light was on, the check engine light was on. Upon taking it to a Jeep dealership was informed that the VIN in the onboard computer had been corrupted as well as saying that the traction control and the airbags were not functional until this had been resolved. Dec 5 2013. The battery had gone bad and needed be replaced. Once a new battery was installed the exact same thing happened with the VIN in the onboard computer being corrupted. The traction control and the airbags were also not working. Had to take the Jeep back to the dealership to have the computer reprogramed with the correct VIN.
When exiting vehicle, driver side door handle fell off, making the door inoperable.
I have experienced 2 incidents of my vehicle engine turning off while driving as described in the recall letter I received 4 months ago. To date, each time I call the dealership, I'm told the parts are not in, yet the recall letter states that if I have the car fixed, I can submit a receipt, which infers that there is a part available. Why has Chrysler not been pushed to resolve this issue? please press them to do so.
While in a line of cars approaching a stop sign I reached my turn at the sign. When I stopped the engine just died and all electrical components worked. After shifting into park and turning the key the engine started again. As with others I do not have anything attached to my key and also my knees are not able to hit the key. The road leading to the stop sign is somewhat rough and it is possible I hit the key with my hand.
P41 - Chrysler recall - faulty ignition switch the parts are still not available to fix my vehicle. My vehicle is unable to be driven due to the deteriorating nature of the faulty ignition switch. I have video evidence to support my claims that the vehicle I own is malfunctioning and the safety-recall notice is now over 6 months old. Chrysler has not provided any of the affected owners a solution to the problem and refuses to reimburse the affected owners. As per your website the manufacturer has not provided a reasonably timely solution without cost to owners. See below: ***-a description of what the owner can do if the owner is unable to have the problem corrected within a reasonable time and without charge. *** (this was taken directly from your website ie what needs to be on a recall notice) driving my 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee without having the problem fixed is not an option, as a loss of brakes, steering and even airbags being unresponsive and would result in my injury or death. The notice says simply to remove extra keys from the swab and to move the seat back. Excellent precautions I am sure but my problem continues to arise nonetheless. Driving down a highway at 55 mph and having a loss of power to your dash, a loss of brakes, and potentially nonworking airbags make this a recipe for disaster. I am floored at the fact a major corporation has issued a recall notice, only for 6 months to have passed with no solution in the future. I have contacted Chrysler and Jeep both several times to check on the status of the fix, all to receive no word or notice of when the parts will become available. I have asked several times if I could have the vehicle fixed and then have Chrysler reimburse me, and was denied. I am hopeful that you will be able to answer some of these questions as Chrysler and Jeep and not been able to. Thank you and have a nice day.
A lot of people on Jeep forums have been reporting their Jeeps showing a "transmission overheat" message in display and vehicle not turning over. Is there a way NHTSA can look into this and see if Jeep needs to issue a recall? this has now caught up to me, and I am having never ending issues with my Jeep, and all that Jeep says is sorry you're out of warranty. . . . ; I am the original owner since 2006, have about 130k miles, been through 3 catalytic converters, 2 exhausts and most recently a transmission rebuild, that was done 4 months ago, now I am having this issue. . . Please please please please please look into this!.
All four door handles on my 2006 Jeep laredo had broken for no reason. Jeep had been contacted numerous times via chat and phone to no avail. This issue was originally addressed at an original complaint submission dated back a year ago but the issue on the door handles was never addressed. This vehicle is used to carpool kids to/from school and about two weeks ago, a friend of my daughter's had hurt (pinched) his hand trying to exit the vehicle. This may seem to be a small matter, but as a parent driving kids to/from school and school events, I cannot just wait for an "emergency" to occur before taking action. This may not be electrical or engine related but as I see it, doors are used to exit the vehicle and in the event that there's an emergency, I would like to think that my family (and other passengers) can safely exit the vehicle. As stated in the original statement/complaint, I have had to let my daughter get out of the car by opening the passenger side door for her. These handles should not have broken due to its normal use but because of a defective or lower quality item used for these door handles, it is now a safety hazard. This has been a known issue on these Jeeps and I would really appreciate if your office could review this issue with Chrysler/Jeep as such equipment/item should not have passed quality inspection. Thank you very much in advance, and I can only hope that this be resolved as soon as possible.
On February 19, 2014 I took my Jeep in to have the n23 recall (reprogram final drive control module) and at this time I had 108,960 miles on my Jeep. I reviewed the Jeep forums that I belong to and found that many are having problems with 4lo with it no longer working after the n23 recall. I then checked my Jeeps 4lo after reading this and my 4lo is also no longer working after having the recall performed (109,000 miles). I called the dealership who said that I would have to pay to have a diagnostic done with no guarantee that it is related to the n23 recall.
I recently bought a 2006 Jeep and it was fine the first couple days then the instrument cluster in the dash just started flashing I let it go the first time it happened again a couple days later so I googled it and found a lot of other people are having the same issues one person spent over $2000 in repairs but never fixed the issue one person found the issue being the ignition silinoid and lock in it I just want the issue fixed if its happening to this many people maybe there should be a recall on it.
Inside door handle on front door and back door is broken there is no reason for this other then it being cheep. I do not under stand why NHTSA has left this very bad safety problem go for so long . It may look as though thay are in Jeeps pockets its ok for Jeep to charge 500 for a new panel right the consumer is getting the short end of it here or there waiting for someone to panic and have a heart attack because I can't get out of the vehicle but I'm just saying and obviously this is been going on well before the 2006 Jeep I have and ooooooooooooo still no help.
There has been no accident. I want to report the failure of a dealer ship to respond to my request to honor a safety recall, I have contacted them several times, the last time 12-10-2013, and have been told they will contact me. I have heard nothing.
Car will pop out of gear and into neutral while driving at speeds under 60mph. Car has been owned by me since it had 9000 miles and has been serviced regularly and is a low mileage car. Desintegrating door panels, issues with transmission that could cause loss of control in traffic, what next. Chrysler maintains that there are no recalls for these known safety hazards. Crazy.
Was notified of a safety recall involving a faulty ignition. When I called the dealer was told the part was not yet available. Two years later the part is still not available. I have contacted several local dealers and they say they can't help me. Please help!.
I was reversing and came to a complete stop to shift into drive, when I shifted into drive and let my foot off the brake, it killed the engine and completely shut it off. All electronics remained on. I then reapplied my foot on the brake and shifted into park and started the engine up again, shifted into drive and was able to drive. This continues to happen from time to time and not every time and no one can figure out the issue.
Interior rear passenger door handle is broken. Cannot exit the vehicle from that door.
I stepped on the brake and put the car into reverse. I backed out of a parking space at a taco bell. I did not have my foot on the accelerator. The interlock required my foot to be on the brake. I move the vehicle with only the power supplied with the vehicle at idle (500 rpm). I brought my vehicle to a complete stop with increased brake pressure. I looked to the right where I intended to exit the parking lot. I moved the shift lever to drive. The car unexpectedly accelerated across the parking lot. I still had my foot on the brake. The car violently jumped from a standing start to an extimated15 mph, smashing into the back of another parked car, driving the front of that car over a curb, into a brick entry pillar. I applied maximum braking pressure after my car had moved about 10-15 feet or about halfway across the parking lot. The acceleration was so rapid there was insufficient time to react and stop in such a short distance. I am not senile. I am a skilled driver who has never had a reportable accident in 40 years of driving. I am a safe driver who has not had a traffic ticket in an estimated 38 years. I have taught driver's education. I am very knowledgable with the safe operation of this vehicle after having owned an earlier model. This was not an accident. It was a complete vehicle failure. My car has both the brake interlock and the wider seperation between the brake and accelerator petals . . . Previous Chrysler/Jeep fixes. I suspect this problem might be electrical. The battery had failed and had been replaced only minutes earlier. My foot never touched the accelerator, it remained on the brake throughout this entire incident. I am aware of both complaints of driver error and numerous, unexplained reports. This report is simple . . . Some kind of mechanical failure.
There is already a recall . . P41/NHTSA 14v-438. . . . . . . On these cars. . . . When I called for fix, I was told there isn't one yet. . . . Meanwhile my car refuses to start randomly. . . . This recall was 6 mos ago. . . . These problems with the safety ignition switch has been known for years. . . . . Who holds these CO. Feet to the fire?.
Both rear (left and right) door handles have broken clean off. The front two door handles have broken and chipped, but are still intact. No one in my back seat can get out without someone having to get out of the car and let them out from the outside. These have not had excessive pressure or pulling on them, they have just resulted in 3 out of 4 door handles being broken due to normal use and force for exiting the vehicle. There needs to be a recall on this part as I have seen multiple complaints about the same thing happening to others Jeep cherokees. My car is a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a hemi, limited edition.
When driving my transmission would be stuck in a gear sometimes and other times it would shift to neutral while on city roads and highways. This would happen mostly when accelerating when the automatic transmission had to shift to the next gear. It wouldn't or would go to neutral so I had to shift the transmission back and forth from neutral to drive to catch a gear. I read about a recall back in 2013 but Chrysler said it did not apply to my vehicle so I paid to get the problem fixed. Since Chrysler is currently having recall problems I'm curious to find out if this was something that wasn't reported.
Door handles on all 4 doors are coming apart. The chrome lever is breaking the plastic mold. The rear passenger door lever is totally broke off so the door cannot be opened from inside the vehicle. It is a definite defect in the vehicle.
Handle door.
