Driving down the road my head lights with flicker on and off and its making the lights inside the Jeep go on and off as well reported this awhile ago as well due to the face that tis is not safe while going down the road sometimes it will shut off on its own while driving and then it will come right back in like nothing happened.
The vehicle's gauges will turn off while driving randomly. The speedometer, odometer, tachometer, fuel gauge will all zero out for unspecified amounts of time. Sometimes 10 seconds, other times until the vehicle is started back up. This occurs when the vehicle is in motion. So, is very dangerous. Sometimes it causes the car to completely shut off and come back on. While shut off, the car sounds like it is struggling to continue its forward progress. This happens occasionally. Once the car corrects itself, the check engine light appears. After starting the car 2-3 times, the misfire corrects itself. I did a previous report related to the air bag light is on, but not sure if it is related with the same electrical problem.
While driving all dashboard and exterior lighting goes off and engine and brakes seem to be impacted. Possibly an ignition switch failure.
When the lighting bolt came on my car went limp it almost caused a major wreck on the highway.
I have been dealing with this Jeep Grand Cherokee issue for years now. At one point there was a recall on the ignition switch and it was replaced at the local Chrysler dealer. The issue I have is identical to the one in the link attached. Up until a few weeks ago, I lived with it. Now the issue has turned dangerous because it also affects the ability to brake and turn. When the brakes seemed compromised, I took the Jeep in for repair but they were not able to duplicate the issue. I picked it up last week from the repair shop and today it was the power steering that went out along with the usual dash panel function going out. I realize that this is an older Jeep but it seems Chrysler should still be responsible for the vehicle safety. . Read more...
Recently bought our Jeep and have dimming lights due to low idle and also have a problem with starting it. There are times it wont start unless the battery is disconnected and reconnected 5 mins later and that's after shutting the vehicle off after driving it. From what I have read there is an issue with the wire harness from the battery. The low idle is making the lights dim throughout the vehicle and from what I have read on that it needs a system update that can cost roughly 1000 which I dont have. My wife also said while she was driving home that the transmission slipped on her for no apparent reason. She said she pulled over and put it in park and back in gear and then it acted fine.
The car shut off lost all power control panel went out while driving at 45 miles per hour I quickly wiggled the key(ignition switch ) and the car began to run again.
When I'm driving while in motion in a straight line all of a sudden my dash lights flicker and my ac stutters on and off and then all power stops and my brakes more or less lock up but not all the way but the engine still runs . . . . I'm not sure if the windows stop working or not but its been happening a few times and it seems like its going to need a tow truck but when I pull over off the highway and turn it off and restart it resets its self my Jeep only has 78,000 miles on it because it was sitting in storage for 6 years while I was out of the states so it did not get driven and the dealership took it and changed all belts fluids and gave it a checkup before I drove it again.
A/c heater center control lights do not light up. Been this way since Jeep was purchased. This has been a safety concern, driving at night trying to fumble with changing the temperature and not being able to see what your doing while taking your eyes off the road. There are actually many complaints of this safety concern stated all over online with Jeep having the exact same issue!.
I was on the highway with my family at night when all of the inner and outer lights in the car turnd off.
While driving the ignition turns off, the interior instruments don't work, the brakes, make a noise, the steering get hard to turn. When I turn the key back to the right everything comes back on. Occurred at least 5 times over last few months. Have been reported to dealership twice, who says Dodge is dragging their feet with recall ignition switches. Have complained to Dodge who says I have to brig it to the dealership for diagnosis and I may have to pay for it. But I have a recall notice on the part.
All the lights in the interior speedometer panel, all warning lights ect. . . Flash and the air conditioning goes off.
Light bulbs behind the climate control unit and information center blow. Console is designed in such a way that the blown light bulbs cannot be replaced as they are fused to the circuit board of the affected unit. Only way to fix this issue is to replace the affected unit (like the whole climate control), which is quite expensive. This is a design flaw since the bulbs are neither maintenance-free (and long-lasting) nor serviceable. Operating the vehicle with blown console lights at night is a safety hazard because it cause the driver to take the eyes off the road for an extended period of time while trying to operate unlit console equipment. This is a common issue in 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee wk and 2006-2010 Jeep commander.
This is not the first time this has happened since I purchased the Jeep in 2009 but it was the most significant one. All lights went off inside & out. There was some problem with the steering & the braking also. The motor did not die nor did the a/c or radio go off. When this happens all the warning lights flash a few times & for a few seconds I loose all the lights & experience the braking & steering problems. I did receive the recall notice for the ignition switch in September, 2014 stating that they were trying to get the parts for repair but I have not heard anything else from Chrysler. This is the only vehicle that I have and at this point I am afraid to drive any distance.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph, the head lights illuminated intermittently. Also, the air bag warning light illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received a notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 ( electrical system) however the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown. Ak.
On my way home from work after dark, I experienced a loss of head lights, dash power and heating traveling at a high rate of speed down the interstate. Earlier that morning on my way to work, the dash quit working 4 times. All gauges stop working and drop to zero and the heat/ac quits. I have experienced my head lights turning off/losing power on 3 separate occasions. I am able to switch them from automatic to on and they work. Once my dash "flickers" and returns to normal, the engine light, traction light and esp bas light stay on. This has become a daily malfunction that occurs on my way to and from work. The first time this occurred in September of 2014, I drove straight to auto zone and bought a brand new battery. They tested the battery and said I needed a new one. They installed a new battery and connected power to the Jeep while they changed it. I figured a bad battery was the issue and it was now fixed. A couple days later, I began experiencing a loss power to my dash again. I have taken my Jeep to 3 different Jeep dealerships and they cannot find anything wrong but an ignition switch or bad battery. They all told me that they had not received the ignition switch part for the recall but I will received a notice in the mail when they do. One Jeep dealership contacted auto zone and told them the only thing they could find wrong with it was the battery. I went back to auto zone and they replaced my battery. I have had my alternator checked several times and it tested good. This defect/malfunction is dangerous and a hazard to my life as well as other motorist. I am very dissatisfied with Jeep's handling of the situation and long await period of the recall part.
Driving down a mountain grade, at 65 miles per hour, all power shut off including all dash lights, speedometer, power steering and brakes. Over the next 20 miles all of these systems flashed on and off about a dozen times or more. This erratic electric behavior continued on a daily basis until I took it into the dealership . The dealer was able to recreate the problem when they jiggled the ignition switch. I do not use a keychain, only the key, so I assume the problem was caused when I drove over bumps in the road. For $1,300, the dealer was able to fix the problem.
Driving along at night, when suddenly my head lights blink off and on several times then shut off. Have to then turn on and off switch several times to get them back . Then few minutes later they do it again, along with the instrument panel. No one seems to be able to figure it out. I think its the computor on board thats defected, and Jeep doesnt want to replace all of them! I think this issue needs to be addressed a. S. A. P. . It is so unsafe, and appears that there are many others out there with same problem.
While driving, all of my lights on my instrument panel start to flash. I am unable to tell the speed at which I am going because it the speedometer stops working as well. The fans stop blowing and this has happened over and over. I received a speeding ticket because of being unable to tell how fast I was driving. I have taken my car to a Chrysler/Jeep dealership and they were unable to do anything or figure out why it happened. I have taken it to my local garage and they are unable to find out why it is happening. This has been going on for almost two years and keeps getting worse and worse. I have contacted Chrysler/Jeep via email and was told that I should take it back to a dealership to have it looked at but "if it is monetary reimbursement" that I was looking for, that wasn't going to happen. I can google this issue and find hundreds of people with the same problem online with no resolution! this isn't just a problem that I am having and until it causes someone to have an accident and kill either themselves or someone else, Chrysler doesn't seem to care!!!.
We own a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When we start the vehicle, for about the first 20 minutes of driving, the vehicle will shut off multiple times when driving slow or coming to a stop. My wife was coming home from work and she was leaving the parking garage she parked at for work. When she was driving up the ramp to exit the garage, the Jeep shut off on her and it rolled backwards down the ramp into a building support pillar. This caused damage to the back bumper and taillight. We were lucky nobody was hurt or behind her when this happened. When I drive the Jeep it seems like it happens more often. When I leave for work in the morning and arrive at the first stop light, the Jeep will shut off. Sometimes it turns green at the same time so I have to shift back to neutral to start up, making some people miss the green. When I leave work to head home, every time I pull up to the gate to leave, it shuts off. It jumps forward when it shuts off, sometimes I feel like I will hit the gate (have to get close to gate in order for scanner to read garage access pass). Please make a solution for this recall as it is very dangerous and we got lucky with just a minor accident so far.
While driving car with lights on the lights flicker and then go out. I turn them off and then back on again. It's very dangerous driving at night when the lights go out. This seems to be a problem on a large number of Jeep's. I feel Jeep needs to determine what the cause and solution is for this dangerous condition.
Was driving at 65mph and all of the sudden the dash lights up like a christmas tree. The fan for the a/c turned off. This kept happening for 10 miles and the traction control light stayed on after this happened. I had a friend scan the computer without turning the vehicle off. Found code b2100. This code is for the ignition switch malfunctioning. I did an internet check and a lot of people are having this same problem. Some changed the ignition switch and problem solved and others have not changed it. This sure sounds like a safety issue to me. I have read where the engine even shuts off.
While driving under completely normal conditions, several severe problems occurred simultaneously; interior dash lights started flashing on and off, vehicle started sputtering and became unresponsive when trying to accelerate, grinding sound from left front wheel accompanied the other problems further adding to the vehicle suddenly slowing down while in motion. All warning lights were lit up when flashing stopped, but then a couple of minutes later while I was trying to limp into a parking lot to get the car off the road the dash lights started wildly flashing on and off again and the car continued to be virtually unresponsive when stepping on the gas. After shutting the car off and restarting it, the esp/bas lights remained on for a couple of days, but eventually went out, but the check engine light remained on. The problem happened again on 3/29/2013 while I was driving under normal conditions. It was sudden, unexpected and scary. With the right set of circumstances, it could be devastating and extremely dangerous. Once I started doing a bit of online research, I found many Jeep forums packed full of owners with the identical model and year of my Grand Cherokee that are having the same grave issues. It is clearly very widespread for this particular vehicle, and then I found the arfc page and I was astounded at the numbers of owners of my year and model who have also had hair raising incidents who have described the exact set of problems that I have had. Chrysler cannot ignore the massive numbers of people who are reporting the same defect issues. It is well beyond the realms of coincidence, and it is too dangerous to ignore. There needs to be a national factory recall ASAP before somebody gets killed.
Lights shut off and electrical systems fails. This is on recall but dealer will not fix as they say no repair given.
For the last 3 months, both the interior and exterior lights will flicker and then go off. There is no warning before it happens. Many times you can turn the light switch off and then on again and everything will be fine. But lately, this does not solve the problem. I have taken it to a Jeep dealer to fix but since they can not duplicate the problem, they don't know what to fix. This is a huge safety issue as it has happened at night on a road with no street lights. It also makes the car unable to be seen by others. . . . . An accident waiting to happen.
Interior dashboard lights have been flashing off and on at least since 10/2012. On a daily basis the dashboard lights have continued to flash on and off again constantly. As of yesterday (10/28/2014) both the exterior headlamps and dashboard lights flashed off and on again in the late evening leaving the entire vehicle completely dark as I attempted to drive.
Since the day I purchased my certified used 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the interior instrument panel and dash lights have malfunctioned. The brightness flickers from low to very high, which is very distracting at night, some of the panel controls have since completely stopped working, and several times, all of the warning lights on the dash (seatbelt, airbag, check engine, etc) flash on and off while driving. This has happened at numerous speeds and times of the day. I video taped several incidents on my cell phone to prove it. Took it to the dealer and they said they can't duplicate the problem and the video means nothing. It happens more often, or is more noticeable, at night. They checked it in the daytime. Made no offer of any solution.
I do not remember exactly when the problem started, but while driving at night, my lights started flickering and then went out all together. I thought it happened when I turned my signal lights on, but I am not sure if this is the cause. I took it to the Jeep dealer and they could not find anything. Every now and then, I have the same issue, but nothing can be found. This is very dangerous for me and it terrifies me that someone will think I am flashing them and become angry. There is obviously something wrong if there are so many with this type of problem, but nothing is being done about it. I purchased as a one person lease vehicle from a dealership and within a year had to have my transmission replaced. I could not enter transmission in the parts section.
On multiple occasions, the instrument panel has stopped working completely. The lighting in both in the interior of the vehicle as well as the exterior flashes and sometimes goes out completely. Multiple dealers have not been able to find a problem. It has caused near crashes before with the distraction of driving at night. The cruise control also accelerates without any warning while this occurs and the cruise must be reset by turning the car off and back on. This too has caused some near crashes as the car accelerates due to the faulty cruise control.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the interior and exterior lighting illuminated on and off intermittently before shutting off completely. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the dealer stated that the spark plugs needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 81,000 and the current mileage was 81,075.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While the contact shifted into reverse, the vehicle unexpectedly accelerated without warning. The brake was applied with force and the vehicle came to a stop. The failure recurred four times. In addition, the instrument panel failed to illuminate sporadically. The malfunction recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The technician was unable to duplicate the failures. The manufacturer was not made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000. The VIN was unavailable. Updated 12/12/lj.
I purchased a certified used 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2008 with 26k miles. Besides a malfunctioning electronic shifter in 2009 everything has been running great until 1/2/2011. At approximately 6:30pm while driving on the freeway at 65mph all exterior lights and interior lights (except for the map lights) began to flicker and then fail. The lights would come back on for a few seconds and then fail. The problem occurred intermittently over the next 30 miles and persistently worsened until I got home when the lights remained off for 15 to 20 seconds at a time. Each time it failed while driving I cycled the switch, cycled the brights and tried anything I could to get the lights to stay on. None of these methods worked. Upon getting home safely I turned the car off and restarted it only to have the same problem after two restarts. I went to bed and tried it in the morning and the lights worked fine for a 70 mile daylight drive to the dealer. Just received word from the dealer that they could not replicate the failure so there is nothing they can do. This vehicle is unsafe to drive and dangerous to others on the road in this condition even if it only happens once every two years.
When driving there are multiple times the internal and external lights will falsh or go off entirely for time. Sometimes turning off and on will correct the issue however they will continue to flash. When they go entirely off this could post a saftey hazard as there are no external lights on the vehicle. No one has been able to determine the exact cause of the issue.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact noticed that all of the illuminated components in the vehicle would dim intermittently. She was informed that the lights flickered as if she were flashing them during the day and night. The exterior lighting shut off completely. The interior lighting, specifically the instrument panel, would dim while the vehicle was in motion. The contact would have to manually turn them back on again. The electrical system, however, would still malfunction. She took the vehicle to the dealer on two different occasions and to a private mechanic once, but neither could duplicate or determine the cause of the failures. The manufacturer has not been notified. The current mileage was approximately 31,000 and failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
