Was driving my Jeep at night with my infant in the back seat, 55mph. Suddenly all the lights in the dashboard and parking assistance lights in the back all lite up. At the same time the heater stopped working and my headlights went out as well. They came back on about 5 seconds later. I continued to drive when it did it again. I switched the lights out of auto. The same problem occurred again but this time the head lamps did not go out, all the warning lights on the dash still flashed and heat went off. It resumed the whole way home but never fully lost power. It still does this on a daily basis, multiple times. I feel as if it's getting worse but no one can diagnose and figure out what's wrong with it. Considering the airbag warning and others(all of them) light up, I'm concerned for my safety and my sons. Today as I was driving it seemed worse. Even turn signal lights are effected when this happens. Today my speedometer, gas gage. . . Everything on my dashboard lite up and my meters quit working. It all resumed as normal after it happened but it happened approximately 15 times during a 10 minute drive. Sometimes back to back to back. It also happened while sitting at a stop light when I noticed my turn signals also went out at that time, while stationary and while turning. Happens no matter if stationary or in motion.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving approximately 55 mph, the headlights failed without warning. The contact mentioned that the headlight switch was turned off and on in order for the headlights to re-illuminate. The failure recurred on several occasions. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
The headlights and dashlights started to flicker, I would turn off the lights and the back on but the problem would soon reoccur. I took it to my mechanic who couldn't duplicate the problem. He looked up the problem in a website to diagnois the problem. He found that 60% of the time it was the headlight switch which was the problem. We replaced the headlight switch and arm assembly to this day some 5 months later the problem has been resolved. This problem seems to get worse over time without the repair.
Headlights and dash lights flicker when on. They will usually remain on for approximately 5 minutes before they start to flicker. At that point the headlights and dashlights will flash off and on rapidly causing oncoming traffic and the traffic in front of my vehicle to panic. The flicker occurs even when the vehicle is turned off an the light control switch is left in the on position. I have not noticed the flicker occurring while the vehicle is turned off and the light control switch is in the off position. This condition could potentially be very dangerous depending upon the timing of the occurrence. I have conducted internet research on this topic and found that many 2005-2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners have had this very same problem. Even more 2005 - 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners have had electronic problems in general. My particular headlight problem has been attributed to an electronical control module which would cost close to $1,000 to repair or replace. I believe this to be faulty workmanship or the use of a faulty product by Jeep. The failure of an electronic control model is not the result of wear and tear. Therefore, I believe this should either be admitted and replaced by Jeep or made a safety recall. I appreciate your time and consideration.
While driving at night, headlights on vehicle went off. By flashing the light switch to what would normally turn on the brights, the lights would come back on, regular strength (not the brights). This happens repeatedly every time the car is driven at night, several times during the night.
