1 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2019

Engine stalls no matter what speed I'm going. Happens more often when coming to a stop. It's as if I just turn the key off. When it stalls, I stop and put it in park, turn the key off and start it right back up and take off. It's becoming a dangerous safety concern.

2 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/17/2017

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal but the vehicle would not accelerate and the engine stalled without any warning. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road after few minutes when restarted, the vehicle then operated as normal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 91,000.

3 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2016

Ignition recall repairs made. Engine still stalls suddenly and without warning, while driving or stopped. After putting car in neutral or park, have to remove key and reinsert it to start engine. No power brakes, power steering, or air bag functionality when this occurs. Engine does not always start right away, leaving me stranded in the middle of traffic lanes or intersections. Serious hazard. Have taken it to the dealership again and no diagnosis. To attempt diagnosis now at dealership, am charged $130. If no diagnosis made, then I have to pay the charges. This is an untenable situation for which the Jeep manufacturer is not willing to assist - I have emailed Chrysler about this. To get rid of the car, I would have to trade it in at a dealership since it is not sellable privately due to this problem. The car stalls in motion or at rest and has quit on city streets and freeways - very dangerous!!! so far I have been lucky and have not had an accident. It has quit while in turns and when going straight. It is more likely to occur when the car is cold or the ambient temperature is cold. One day it stalled 5 times.

4 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2014

2007 Jeep grand cheokee laredo engine stalled out while trying to accelerate when red light turned green. Loss of engine power, power steering and loss of braking. Received a recall (# p41) for a faulty ignition switch in September 2014 for this problem. Engine has been cutting off intermittently since August 2014 while either trying to accelerate from a dead stop or while trying to make a turn. Chrysler said to remove any objects from key ring which we have done and the problem persists. We are afraid to drive this car at all. We have been to several Jeep dealership mechanics and they say that the problem does not show up on their diagnostic testing so they cannot fix anything until Chrysler sends new parts for the recall. Have tried to speak with Chrysler personnel and am always put on hold for 2 hours at a time!! is Chrysler waiting for a tragedy to occur before dispatching the parts to fix this recall??.

8 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/11/2013

The engine stalled while at cruise speed (not accelerating) and with no warning. There was 1/2 tank of gas; the mil did not illuminate. Upon loss of engine power, all power assist systems (e. G. : brakes, steering) ceased to operate. I successfully restarted the vehicle by shifting into neutral and turning the key as far toward "off" as is possible when the vehicle is not in park. On the second attempt, the vehicle restarted with no mil illumination.

9 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

While at a stop light, the engine stalled and produced a mil reading. Codes p0129, p0688, p0884 were stored, but cleared upon the next cycling of the ignition. The vehicle would not restart until a full power-off cycle (in park). Attempts to restart while in neutral resulted in the engine turning over and immediately killing.

10 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

While coming to a stop at a light, the engine stalled. The mil illuminated, but cleared upon the next power-on cycle, so no codes could captured; subsequent reads revealed no stored codes. Restart required the vehicle to be in park; attempts while in neutral resulted in the engine turning over, but immediately dying.

11 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2013

The engine stalled while merging from one highway to another. All power assist systems (brakes, steering) failed; restart from neutral was unsuccessful and required full power-off in park. Upon restart, the mil was clear.

12 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2013

Driving down road and engine stalled. Loss of power steering and power brakes. Caused car behind me to slam on brakes to avoid getting hit. Put in neutral and tried to start. Had to switch ignition off before engine would start. Stalls at random without any engine malfunction lamps. Hazard to be driving on road. Problem still unknown and vehicle is out of extended warranty by five thousand miles.

13 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2012

On 12/5/2012 my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with only 33,466 miles stalled on the highway at about 60mph. I almost got into an accident because of the loss of power steering and brakes. I thought this was an isolated incident however since then the stalling problem has been increasingly getting worse to the point where I recently had to take my Jeep to the dealership for repair. The dealership was courteous, but unfortunately told me that the hemi engines have this known problem for stalling and they had to change out $1500. 00 worth of parts to hopefully fix the problem. Sadly my extended coverage did not cover the cost due to the lack of Chrysler/Jeep not being able to give them an actual broken part number. . Read more...

14 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2012

Engine stalling during deceleration due to oem spark plugs thus no power steering or power brakes when it is needed the most. Champion spark plugs has 2 different spark plugs with same part number re14mcc4. This is the Chrysler oem supplier ans part number for hemi engine spark plugs through 2007. One of the two spark plugs is incompatible with the hemi engine and leads to stalling while decelerating. The consumer has no information on which one to use. National automotive parts distributors have not been made aware of the difference. Chrysler has an internal memo ("star case") that documents the issue but has not released it to the public. I was shown the memo but was not allowed to have a copy. No tsbs exists. No recall either. Nhtsa told me they do not handle this. They advised me to contact the ftc. The ftc took my complaint but referred me to the dot as they were concerned for consumer safety. I have side by side pictures of the 2 spark plugs with the same part number and would be willing to supply them. I also have one of each plug in my possession. There is visual differences. This issue occurred in a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the hemi engine. It started to stall while decelerating after the 60,000 mile service interval. Did champion change manufacturing process? did Chrysler request a change due to a discovered issue after production? if it was champions fault one would think that Chrysler would issue a TSB as they would have no responsibility for the issue. Since they are not releasing the info are they the ones that requested the change? the correct spark plugs were changes and the issue has not occurred since.

15 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

I have two problems with the vehicle that make it unsafe to drive. The first is that the engine randomly stalls. Most of the time it stalls when the vehicle is stopped. Sometimes it stalls at very slow speeds. When stopped, sometimes I hear a "thunk" right before it stalls like it was trying to go into gear. It has done this running in park and when the brake is pressed while in drive. It has stalled on me in busy intersections putting me in unsafe situations. Turning the key all the way off and back on will restart it. The second issue is that the transmission randomly gets stuck in 4th gear. It happens most often when a lot of power has been applied from stop. But it also happens randomly. When it occurs, I pull over and stop the engine turning the key all the way off. Usually when I restart it will go back to drive and all the gears in the transmission function normally. The issue is so chronic now with the transmission that it immediately goes into 4th and the vehicle is not drivable. It is at the dealer now. The dealer pulled codes and recommends replacing the transmission solenoid pack. This part is currently on national backorder and there is no eta of when the part will be available to the dealer. Also there is no guarantee that this part will fix the transmission problem. If it doesn't, the vehicle will require a new transmission. They are not even looking at the stalling problem until the transmission problem is resolved. The stalling problem is very serious and I cannot confidently use the vehicle without fearing putting children in an unsafe situation. There should be a safety recall by Chrysler on these vehicles.
