3 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2017

Bought used 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It stalls for no reason. Twice I thought it was because of cold weather but 2 days ago it stalled on a warm day in thick traffic and had a very hard time getting to a parking lot, due to no steering, etc. Talked to mechanic twice about problem and they can not figure it out. Chatted with Jeep corporation on their chat line. They only suggested that I go to Jeep dealer (really expensive) and if there are any repairs, keep a receipt in case there is a recall on the problem - a problem which has occurred with several of their other car models.

5 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

While driving at freeway speeds (approximately 75mph) the vehicle intermittently stalled several times and twice in 1-hr it completely shutdown. The motor lost all power. It requires a complete restart of the vehicle. The key must be turned to the off position and restarted. It has done this several times before. It seams to happen under a load or while accelerating or pulling a hill. It has happened in high traffic circumstances and has at times been difficult and dangerous to pull to the side of the road. I've taken it to Jeep to have it repaired. They apparently have a star case number s1218000003 in which they say to change the spark plugs. This seems like a dangerous situation to put consumers in.

10 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2014

When driving my 2008 Jeep with only 40,000 miles my car stalled out. The car completely turned off disabling breaking, steering and making my gears unable to move. The car continued to drive leaving me helpless in stoping this moving vehicle. I finally had to with a my strength punch the gear into park where my car then finally stopped moving. I was only going 20 mph but imagine what could of occurred if I was on a highway, this letter which have a much different tone. I tried calling Jeep to explain what occurred not only because I felt their car failed and they should pay for my expenses on their failed part, but also to note it for a recall. I have researched and see that I am not the only one that has experienced this occurring with this Jeep. This is very dangerous and there should be immediate recalls so no one gets hurts as this is a very serious problem and I am lucky my outcome did not end in a worse way!.

13 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2014

While driving vehicle suddenly stalled wouldn't restart for several tries then finally did. Never stalled again until recently. Sometimes it starts in neutral other times it has to be put in park. Upon restart vehicle drives as if nothing has ever happened. It now stalls at idle or when accelerating or even while driving at a steady rate of speed. I have been paying close attention to the key position and it seems normal in the on position and doesn't seem to be the reason behind this erratic stall situation. Numerous accounts of similar situations have been noted here and on other websites. I keep my vehicle well maintained and tuned, it runs great. Many times weeks or months go by without any stalls.

14 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2014

I have previously entered a similiar complaint for this same vehicle. The issue is that the vehicle stalls/shuts off for no reason while driving. Chrysler is unable to provide a reliable fix. This began in may 2012 - my vehicle simply shut off while driving in any number of conditions whether it be on the highway, side roads, etc. I removed all excess keys from my key ring to ensure that it was not the key being too heavy. Brought this in to my dealership, they replaced the win control module but couldn't guarantee that this would fix the problem. Vehicle stalled once while driving unexpectly about 9 months later. Then vehicle stopped twice in October 2013. At that time I brought the vehicle to another dealership. They at first wanted to replace the win module. When I told them that was the fix from before and it didn't work, they advised that the front control module be replaced, as there was a recall on this but my vehicle was one day past the date of manufacturing impact in the recall, but was having the same exact issue. Replaced front control module in October 2013. Vehicle stopped unexpectedly while driving again twice in March 2014 - on March 20th and March 21st. Vehicle is back at the dealer where they again want to replace the win module. Again, this fix was provided previoulsly and did not fix the car. Either the wins being produced by chyrsler are all faulty and I somehow have gotten 2 in a row or there is an underlying issue that cannot be found or addressed. This issue is very prevelant with 2008 Grand Cherokees. Chyrsler is sitting on a very dangerous issue.

17 Car Stall problem

19 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2013

I was driving the Jeep and it accelerated suddenly as if the throttle was stuck. The throttle pedal in fact was not stuck and I had to shift into neutral to get it to stop accelerating. After shifting to neutral, the Jeep stalled in the roadway and I ended up driving through my neighbor's yard to avoid pulling out into a busy intersection as I had no brakes or steering. I almost ran over a pedestrian I didn't see walking on the sidewalk. This vehicle has been to dealerships multiple times for stalling at freeway speeds and stalling when driving around town. This has been an ongoing safety concern, especially with the stalling and Chrysler is well aware of the problem. Most recent Chrysler case # is 23853259. They have replaced multiple things so far and the problem still exists.

This has happened at least 10 times and has been to the dealership 3 times with no fix in sight. The dealership can not find what the problem is. I have called Jeep and they have not been any help. Failure Date: 08/09/2010

There are two main issues: stalling and no start. Stalling issue - vehicle began to stall on 8/9/10 on a random and intermittent basis while driving at varying speeds. The stalling appears to have stopped after the last service was completed on 7/25/11. The following information relates to the stalling issue. Each date is separate visit to dealership: 8/13/10 - performed diagnostic test, with no fault codes stored. Checked wiring to pdc and front control module. Road tested for 55 miles. Could not duplicate customer concern. 9/2/10 - replaced wireless ignition node - (due to a bind, stick or sieze). 10/27/10 - replaced throttle body. Found the throttle body to be binding. 7/25/11 - performed diagnostic test, found a stored code for the crankshaft sensor. Could not duplicate concern. Replaced sensor. No start issue - this is defined as turning the key to the start position but would not crank. Fuel pump would turn on after a few seconds. All electrical systems were fine. Battery was full strength. In all of these cases, the car would start up without a problem within 24-48 hours after the no-start incidents. The following information relates to a "no start" issue. Each date is a separate trip to the dealership. 5/30/11 - vehicle towed in on Saturday. Service technician started vehicle up three times on Monday. Let sit overnight and started right up on Tuesday. Battery tested fine. No codes in system. 7/25/11 - diagnostic scan, replaced crankshaft sensor (see stalling) 7/26/11 - vehicle towed to dealership. Duplicated no-start issue. Replaced engine wiring harness. Service advisor extremely confident that this was the issue. *after speaking with the service advisor today, he had told me that they had replaced several wiring harnesses on the 2007, 2008 g. Cherokees experiencing same issue since my service on 7/26/11.
