Dashboard is melting and leather is coming off the dashboard. Less than 10,000 miles over 36,000 and bought a $3,000 5yr 75,0000 mile extended warranty and Jeep would not cover this. Potential safety issue.
My Jeep Grand Cherokee overland 4x4 2011 is experiencing starting problems. The yark Jeep dealer in toledo ohio diagnosed the problem to be the total integrated power module or tipm on September 4, 2013. I had not driven the car for 5 days due to a fear of being in a strange place and not being able to get the car started. The yark dealership, on advice of Chrysler, performed a software update, which seemed to work for about an hour at the dealership. Then it [constant starter cranking, which the dealership said was because the tipm was not sending any power to the fuel pump] started again at the dealership. Now, I am being told, by the yark dealership, that there is a 2000 part backlog on the tipm and that the part-distributor restocking date has moved from 9/9/2013 to 9/23/2013. If the delivery date holds I will be without my vehicle for about three weeks. . Read more...
My Jeep failed to start on the first 4 attempts. This was one of the many times it has failed to start. My service tech told me it needs a tipm, total integrated power module and that they are know by Jeep to be defective and Jeep needs to recall these before there are anymore accidents. I was also told it will take weeks for a replacement tipm due to the demand of the bad ones being replaced. I was also told this is around a $1300 repair. I bought a extra 5 years warranty and now need to get a rental and have it fixed before it leaves me stranded along the road.
This vehicle is equipped with a adaptive speed sensor that keeps the vehicle at a preset distance from the vehicle in front with cruise control on. Vehicle is also equipped with a forward collision warning system which warns the driver to brake if it senses an approach of an object that is unsafe. The problems: the system will shut it self off, flashing a warning that the forward collision warning system is not working and shuts off the cruise control as well. System always resets itself after minutes, or longer and the cruise control will once again, work. Safety issue the system has the ability to brake on its own if it senses you are approaching a vehicle too fast with cruise control engaged. The problem is that a car may turn off in a separate lane to decelerate or be in a separate lane to accelerate and the sensor thinks the car is in front of it and starts braking severely cause it thinks it is in its path. This is a huge safety concern since any driver behind me would not be expecting me to brake when cars are not in my path. The vehicle has been to Jeep dealer for numerous attempts to fix it. Right now Chrysler is not doing anything about it. According to the repairing dealership, if Chrysler did decide to replace the part, its on back order.
