Brake booster failed. There is a recall on the brake booster (p14) and the dealer cannot return the vehicle to me until the brake booster is repaired. They cannot get parts from Chrysler and it has been over a month. 17 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

Received safety recall notice for brake booster on Jeep Grand Cherokee's in late may. Dealers near me still do not have parts to perform recall service. First called dealer in late may and again July 7 and they still said they are waiting for parts from Chrysler. Recall notice releases should have all parts available to perform recalls especially in case of potential brake failures due to malfunctions yet I can't get the issue corrected due to no parts available.

18 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

19 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2014

Brake booster recall p14 / NHTSA 14v-154. Dealership: herb chambers Chrysler of danvers MA. Dealer has been unable to remedy this within a reasonable time (7 months), and we are concerned as this is a life threatening recall if the brake booster fails again. We replaced the brake booster previously with a faulty brake booster in November 2013, at this same dealership. We have been told there is a waiting list and there is "nothing" that can be done.

20 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2014

While driving the speed limit on the highway I was approaching slow traffic. I tried to apply the breaks but the brakes were hard and failed to work properly. The vehicle did slow down a little bit but not enough to stop the vehicle. I was going 55mph and then traffic slowed to about 20-25mph but couldn't. I had to veer off into the left lane to avoid hitting the car in front of me. It wasn't the anti-lock brakes kicking in either. I the brakes were just failing. The second occurrence was the next day when I was approaching an intersection to make a right hand turn I tried to apply the brakes but again the brakes were hard, as if the pedal fully depressed without applying any brake. Luckily I was cautious from the previous incident and was approaching the intersection at a low rate of speed. I was able to just barely make the turn without colliding with another car. Thankfully there weren't any pedestrians crossing the street, in new york city this is a rarity. After all this happened I checked any recalls with my vehicle and saw the brake booster recall. I called two Jeep dealers ( bayside Jeep in NY and east hills Jeep in NY) and both gave me a hard time saying that there is not a recall out for my vehicle. They are saying my VIN # does not have a recall against it but Jeep hasn't assigned the recall to any specific VIN #s, they say to just bring it in to get checked out. Since this wasn't a mandatory recall to my VIN# I wasn't given an appointment for service for 1week at bayside Jeep and 2days later at east hills Jeep. I was given attitude and didn't even care that this was a major safety issue.

21 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

The contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, the vehicle failed to respond to deceleration attempts. The failure and current mileage was 61,000.

22 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

On 2/26, I experienced a brake failure in my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When I pressed the brake pedal, it was very stiff, and I could not stop my vehicle as quickly as I could before. The pedal only went halfway to the normal depressed position. The vehicle did not stop, and I had to coast to a stop. I took my vehicle to a Jeep dealership that evening for repair, and I was told the following day that the problem is the power brake booster. I was told on Saturday (3/1) that the part would arrive at the dealership on Tuesday (3/4). I spoke with the dealership today, and there is now no eta for the part (the power brake booster). Upon further searching online, I've become aware that this is a common problem for 2011/2012 Grand Cherokees and Dodge durangos. Apparently, the diaphragm in the booster cannot withstand the colder temperatures that we've been experiencing recently in the northeast, and alllow moisture to get into the brake system, causing freezing. Driving the vehicle is extremely dangerous, as the brakes do not function at all when attempting to stop the vehicle.

23 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2014

Was driving my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and brakes failed had to swerve off road until I came to a stop. Had to have car towed to gas station. Mechanic determined it was the booster brake assist. He called Chrysler dealership and they said that they don't have any and there are hundreds on backorder and could be several months before you get the part. I called Chrysler and they acted like there wasn't an issue with this part and they would expedite one to the dealership. My mechanic was on phone with dealership while I had Chrysler corp. On phone. The dealership laughed and said you are not going to get part expedited as they are in same situation with several cars themselves. So Chrysler is not going to do anything, not going to pay for towing of my car, not going to pay to have car fixed, not going to give me a loaner car ( could be months). There is a serious issue with defect on this part and it's just a matter of time before some gets seriously injured or dies from this. Chrysler should be issuing a recall instead of trying to mask the problem. Do they have to wait for several injuries or deaths before they issue a recall. This is a known defective safety issue that should be addressed ASAP. For crying out load it's the brakes of the car!.

24 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

My 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee brake booster failed. I am getting a "hissing" noise from the booster and my braking power has been reduced. The issue started during a real cold snap in the northeast. . . Not sure if the defect is related to this cold weather or not. After calling my dealership, it appears that the boosters are on backorder from an overwhelming need to have this part replaced. It seems that a lot of other people have had this problem during this cold winter.

25 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2014

Brake failure in cold weather due to defective power brake booster.

26 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2014

I am second owner of a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee that at the time of the following incident had just under 35k miles but was 2 months over the warranty period. The temperature the morning of Jan 4, 2014 was between -2 & -4 f. I started Jeep and proceeded to drive to end of block. When depressing and/or releasing brake I heard an air leak from under the dash. I returned home and parked the car. The next day the outside temperature had gone above 5 degrees f. The car no longer made the air leak sound. I dropped vehicle off evening of Jan 6 to local mechanic. Temperature on Jan 7 dropped to 5 f. Mechanic indicated air leak condition was noted and indicated issue was power brake booster. They suggested I contact Jeep to see if they would make repairs. I had discussions with Chrysler/Jeep and Jeep dealer about issue. I did not mention that I had taken the vehicle to a mechanic. I advised them that indications were a bad power brake booster and that I felt this was a latent failure that would only show up at subfreezing temperatures. Chrysler/Jeep indicated since auto had 35k miles but exceeded 36 months, the vehicle was not under warranty and Jeep would not diagnose or cover cost of repair without me paying. I had replacement of power booster done by the local mechanic on Jan 15. They determined there was water in the booster. It was their diagnosis that the booster had a leak that allowed water to enter. When temperature dropped to those noted, the booster would exhibit an air leak. I have subsequently searched the condition on several Chrysler vehicle internet forums and have found that this booster failure condition is described almost identically to what I encountered. I have a concern that this is a design issue and the problem is not detectable unless the temperature drops below a certain degree. This could result in a power brake failure.

27 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2013

Report receipt date: Apr 01, 2014 NHTSA campaign number: 14v154000 component(s): service brakes , service brakes, hydraulic Jeep has not derived the correct test to correct this issue. My brakes failed last winter due to this very issue. Jeep would not correct the brake issue until they did a formal recall and letters were sent. I now have my letter and went to the dealer. The dealer refuses to replace the brake booster as it apparently passes the test Jeep established. They only put up the booster shield. The problem is that the water already did get into my brake booster and my brakes froze. I nearly had three accidents over the course of the winter 2013/2014. I expect I will have more close calls if not a full on accident this year when my brakes again freeze up and stop working. This needs to be addressed, and Jeep needs to replace all these boosters. Jeep are not only sending me back out on the road with a dangerous vehicle, but thousands of others who allegedly passed the test, yet will freeze again this winter. Unfortunately, we need to become a statistic before Jeep properly corrects the issue.

28 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2011

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that there were various electrical shorts within the vehicle that happened intermittently and the dealer was not able to replicate nor diagnose the failures. The contact also indicated that the brakes failed on several occasions and went to the floor. The contact had to apply force to stop the vehicle on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who installed the wrong rotors and did not secure the tires causing them to fracture and the contact had to take the vehicle back to have the dealer reinstall the correct rotors. The vehicle was repaired by the authorized dealer for the brake failure however the failure intermittently recurrs and the repair did not remedy the failure. The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 38,000. Dyd.
