7 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2016

On 8-4-16 I was operating my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee in a paring lot dropping off some people. After putting the vehicle back into drive and moving forward, I was unable to stop the vehicle. When I stepped on the brake petal, I could hear a sound of "air" which seemed to be escaping from somewhere. Fortunately the parking lot was empty and I coasted to a stop. I had zero brake function! there was absolutely no warning that this issue was about to occur, and no type of "service engine or brake" light went on. My family and I are very fortunate that we were not on the highway at high speeds when this brake system failed for no apparent reason. Note that a year or so ago I had this vehicle serviced at my local Jeep dealer for a government recall on the brake system. It is my understanding that it was a hydraulic booster under NHTSA # 14v154000. I had my vehicle towed into a different Jeep dealer for this issue. They repaired it under the "booster" recall. My invoice mentions that they tested and replaced the brake booster due to corrosion. I am extremely concerned for the safety of anyone driving a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee! the problem was allegedly fixed once, but had to be fixed a second time. This is an extremely dangerous situation that must be corrected immediately on all like vehicles.

8 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2016

On June 24, 2016, between 1:30 pm and 2 pm, I was driving from brentwood CA to vallejo CA on hwy 780 w and after turning a curve on the freeway which sloped down towards curtola parkway, I applied the brakes at about 30 miles per hour after I emerged from the overpass which was at least 5 car lengths before the cars ahead of me which was stopped at a red traffic light. However, the Jeep continued to roll even though I pressed on the brakes to the floor board. When I realized the Jeep did not stop, after checking for vehicles on the left from the rear view mirror, I swerved to the left to avoid hitting the truck in front of me, but I still hit the left corner of the Nissan truck in front of me but the truck did not hit the vehicle in front of him. I damaged the right corner of the front of my Jeep. The Jeep is unsafe because the brakes failed and would have caused a fatal accident to me, my three passengers, and other vehicles had I been travelling at a high speed. I complied with all available recall repairs including the brake recall in 2014 and all the suggested Chrysler maintenance on the Jeep. I reported the accident to my insurance geico and to Chrysler.

9 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

I experienced a loss of brakes on my Grand Cherokee. I pushed the pedal to the floor and could hear air escaping, but I had very little brake. I had to push exceedingly hard to stop the vehicle. Fortunately, I was not driving in heavy traffic and could get to my local garage. At the garage I was told the booster needed replaced as it had failed. Since we had the safety recall done in December 2014 it seemed strange that the brake booster failed. After reading other complaints, it appears that Jeep is aware of the issue and that the recall did not solve the problem. Fortunately, I was not in a serious accident.

The vehicle was repaired; however, the fob failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,671.

12 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2015

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle took an abnormally long time to stop. In order for the vehicle to come to a complete stop, the brake pedal had to be depressed excessively and the vehicle jerked as if it drove over a speed bump. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing; however, details of the brake failure could not be provided. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

14 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2015

In August of 2014 I noticed a firm response from my brake pedal when starting the car. I brought it to the dealer, grava in medford MA, and they told me they fixed it and that it was covered under recall p14. I later learned they only replaced the brake booster pump shield and not the booster. In October of 2015 I had a sudden loss of brake power when my brake booster failed and had to have my car towed to the dealer. The vehicle was in motion when this occurred; luckily slow speed.

15 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2015

I had my Jeep in some time ago for the brake booster recall but over the last few months, I have begun to notice a sound of air when I am pressing the brake pedal. Some information that I have found seems to denote this as an issue with the brake booster failing. I need to know if this means that this was not fixed when I took it in for the recall repair as this seems to be getting worse as time goes by. The date below is an estimate based on when this started but it is not a direct day of occurrence. This has been happening for several months now.

16 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2015

I had just taken off from a traffic signal stop and the brakes failed. I was miraculously able to get over to the side of the road without hitting any other vehicles and bring the vehicle to a stop. I had my 2 week old infant in the back seat with me and this was an extremely traumatizing incident. Most infuriating on this incident was that I already took the vehicle in to get the brake recall repaired on 7/26/14 to courtesy Chrysler in grand rapids, mi 10 months ago!. At that time, the dealership stated they did not have the parts to correct the recall, but placed me on a waiting list and when the parts arrived, would call me to make the repairs. Still waiting for that call! had the recall fixed at the closest dealer to where the brakes went out in holland, mi.

17 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2015

I received recall notice p14 regarding the brake booster issue in or around may 2014. I called the closest dealership to my house and was told they were too busy, understaffed, had guys in training and had no time to fix the car. The dealership is ed tomko Chrysler in avon lake, ohio. They assured me this was not a dangerous problem with the car. I asked them to call me back when they had time to do the work and they refused, saying it was up to me to call them. I called again in July and was told the same thing. On February 28, the brakes failed when I was driving, which caused a severe brake application problem. By some miracle, I avoided a serious accident by inches. I called the dealership immediately but was told the service department was gone for the day. I called on Monday March 2 and was told that the first available appointment would be on April 21. I explained that the car was undriveable. The service manager once again told me that he was too busy, understaffed and had guys in training. This was almost word for word his excuse from last year. I called the Chrysler group recall assistance number 800-853-1403 but hung up after 51 minutes, hearing over 50 times "thank you for holding, your call is important to us. . . . " the lies of the dealership and the incompetence of Chrysler could have cost me my life if the brake failure had occurred on the highway. Please take appropriate action. Thank you.

18 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2015

A recall was issued for the Jeep Grand Cherokee in early 2014. On July 31, 2014, I requested the repair, but the brake booster was back-ordered. I attempted several times, monthly, to schedule the repair, but was repeatedly told the part was not available. On February 13, 2015, our Grand Cherokee's brake booster failed, causing difficulty to control the vehicle when approaching an intersection. No accident occurred. Fortunately, we were able to avoid a very dangerous situation. The vehicle was taken to the nearest mechanic. He suggested taking the vehicle to the Jeep dealer due to a failure with the brake booster. Since the vehicle is under warranty and also subject to the recall, the part should be replaced or repaired at no cost. The local Jeep dealer offered to replace the brake booster. The part was available for repair since it had failed, but the part would not have been available to me if it had not failed. Almost seven months have passed since I requested the repair under a safety recall. If it had not failed, it is not known how much longer it would have taken to get the repair performed. I understand I was 30-something in line for the repair, but there is more than 100 waiting at the local dealership. The dealer claims they are receiving a very limited supply for the recall parts. . 19 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2014

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the brake pedal was depressed but the brakes failed to respond. As a result, the contact crashed into a building and the air bags failed to deploy. A police report was filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 33,183.

20 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2014

I was stopped at a light behind a vehicle when suddenly my brake pedal went down to the floor. The road was level with a slight incline. The vehicle began inching forward and I kept trying to pump the brakes. I was unable to locate the emergency brake due and the vehicle stopped after making contact with the car stopped in front of me. I later regained brake pressure and promptly reported the incident to my insurance company and Chrysler customer service. Prior to the incident, I took my vehicle to the dealership for the brake recall. I was initially told that my brake booster had to be replaced and later told that it just needed the protective brake booster shield. Chrysler's solution was to have a rep from engineering analysis conduct tests on my vehicles brake system. On 5 November 2014, I received a letter from Chrysler advising me that the inspector found no problems with my brake system. They are refusing to replace the brake booster. I fear that I am at risk of my brake system failing again! this incident could have been fatal had I been on the expressway traveling at 55 mph!.

21 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2014

On three separate occasions over the past two months, I have experienced an unanticipated engine stall when decelerating from highway speed in order to make a turn (both right and left). In each of these instances, as I was in the turn (or immediately before), the engine stalled, leaving me without power-assisted steering or brakes. This makes the vehicle difficult to control, as the amount of physical force needed to complete a turn is very substantial. In each instance, after bringing the vehicle under control, I was able to restart it by placing the shift selector in "neutral," applying pressure to the brake pedal, and pushing the engine start button. While I have sufficient arm strength to have been able to maintain control in each of these instances, it is, at a minimum, a surprising and unexpected event to have steering and brake assist fail simultaneously. A smaller person could easily lose control of the vehicle under these circumstances. I do not know whether, when this occurs, the airbags are disabled, but that may also be a matter of concern.

22 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

I am not sure if this is the correct place to complain. But I received a recall for my brake booster ( which I am not sure what it is, but anything to do with brakes has to be important) months ago. I reach out to the dealership saying I receive the letter in the mail about my brakes and I need this fixed and they said well they only send us one part at a time. So when we fix one we have to send the old one in and wait for a new one so we will put you on the list to get the part. So I called back a month later to find out that the recall part has been recalled which is ridiculous. So here I am the end of September still trying to get by brake booster fixed, not knowing if my brakes will fail or not. I shouldn't have to wait to get into an accident for something to be done. My car isn't a cheap car I have paid good money for this and if something isn't safe there it should be fixed and I shouldn't have to worry about it. Can you please help me if you can not can you lead me in the right direction. Thank you in advance.

23 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2014

The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. While driving at various speeds, the brakes failed. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer four times, but was not diagnosed nor repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v154000 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.

24 Brakes Failed problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

My 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo had a brake problem and the service dept at nielsen Jeep in east hanover, NJ, diagnosed it a a brake booster failure. This is not a problem that should occur in a well-maintained 2 year old vehicle. The service manager (who was very nice and courteous) explained that the car is unsafe to drive (the brakes could fail) but that the part is not available anywhere. It is on national backorder and there is no anticipated delivery date. The dealer denied my request for a loaner car so I filed case # 24644312 with Chrysler to appeal for a loaner/rental car. Chrysler escalated my request to the "highest level" but then also denied the loaner/rental car. I need my car to get to work. While I can ask someone drive me to work for a few days, it is unreasonable to do so for an undetermined period of time. I have no choice but to pick up my car and continue to drive it until the part comes in. I hope the brakes do not fail in the meantime. The service manager told me there were also 3 other Jeep Grand Cherokees in the shop awaiting the brake booster part. I am filing this complaint because this is an unsafe circumstance and as I have learned, this is not isolated to only my vehicle. My hope is that Chrysler Jeep will provide an alternative transportation option to owners, such as a loaner car or rental reimbursement, while they are awaiting the part. Also, I hope for Chrysler Jeep to accelerate the manufacturing of this part. I think a recall is probably in order for the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Sincerely, karen pyhel.
