39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2021

My Jeep has shut off / stalled on me twice now since I have purchased it last month. This is an absolute random issue, and happens while driving. The engine will shut off with no warning, and you loose power steering and power brakes. Very scary, and a very serious and deadly condition. Jeep and Chrysler are no help. Was at the dealership for three days, and they said they can’t find the issue, and gave it back to me. Pathetic!.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2020

The latest incident happened Sunday 11/29/20. Prior to this, the event has happened at least 4 other times. While driving at highway speed 55-70 and slowly coming down to a stop on a ramp or turning the vehicle while decreasing speed, the engine will stop running. No visual or auditory warnings happen, you're only aware when you feel the power steering has gone away, and the tachometer reads zero rpm. I have been able to safely pull off and stop in each event, the vehicle needs to be cycled off and then restarted. The safety concern is this event could happen into left turn across oncoming traffic with no ability to accelerate out of harms way.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2020

My wife was stranded when the engine stopped and will not restart. Mechanic made us aware he cannot fix as this is an issue under an open recall for the vehicle since November 2019. I called a Jeep service center who said they cannot apply the recall work because Jeep/fiat haven't made the parts available. Meantime we now have a Jeep we still have to pay for even though it cannot be driven. This recall came out a year ago and I am told another year could pass before Jeep makes parts available to service centers. What in the meantime are impacted Jeep owners supposed to do, keep paying for vehicles that cannot be driven? two years being without a vehicle is completely unacceptable. We had shut off the engine to refuel and the engine would not restart, stranding us. Our mechanic ruled out bad gas and indicated the tipm has malfunctioned. Recall 19v-813 addresses it (Jeep's recall for it is v62) but appears another year will pass before the recall can be done. That's a year after the recall was announced. Again, unacceptable.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

The engine light is illuminated so we took it for diagnosis to a Jeep/Chrysler dealership for diagnosis. The diagnosis for my vehicle is low compression in cylinders #1 and #2 causing a misfire. The code is p0302. The irony of this diagnosis is that Chrysler knows all about this problem and has issued a cylinder head extension warranty for only the left side of the engine. Meaning that Chrysler will repair the left side (under warranty) but will not warranty the right side of the engine that suffers from the same problem. Cylinder #1 is covered by the extended warranty 10 years 150,000 miles and cylinder #2 was covered under the original power train 5 years 100,000 miles and we are still under 100,000 miles on the vehicle. Unusual wear and failure in the upper cylinders and valves are pervasive problems with 2011-13 Jeep Grand Cherokees with this engine I was advised by the technician at larry miller Chrysler that lkq and c&k do not offer aftermarket engines for this make and model so the factory motor seems to be our only hope. We have submitted a claim to Chrysler corp and am getting their "generic automatic email that states our clain has been closed". One representivae even asked us to submit the stamped work order and any receipts, which we did 10 days ago. Today we called to ask about our claim and are being told it has been closed and they have not goven us any explanation other than it is outside the warranty. How can 1 side of the engine be covered but the other side is not? we basically have to pay for a whole new engine and labor costs to the tune of $8,000. This vehicle has already had multiple recalls and repairs and we are devastated at this point because this engine issue is emotionally and financially ruining our family.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2020

On two or three occasions in the last year, when I go to start the engine, the engine cranks many times, but won't start. I would typically believe this to be a "no fuel to the engine" issue or "no spark", but once I'm able to stop the car from cranking (which has been an issue) and attempt to start the engine again, it does so without incident. It makes me think that there is an electrical issue in the ignition system. There is no rhyme or reason as to when this happens or may happen.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

I was passing a slow moving truck on a 2 lane highway when my Jeep lost power for several seconds. I came very close to a head on collision. The Jeep has had a no start problem since I purchased it 5 years ago. It has been in dealership service departments multiple times for the issue with no resolution when still under warranty. All online research points to a defective tipm and there are related recalls. The current open safety recall is number v62 with fca for the fuel pump relay which is part of the tipm. The loss of power is one issue that can be caused by the faulty tipm, as well as the no start problem my Jeep has had the entire time I've owned it. I contacted fca recall assistance center and opened a case, informing them that I almost had a head on collision due to their defective product with an open recall. They told me there was nothing they could do but notify me when a fix was available. This recall was issue almost a year ago and involves life safety. I have no choice but to continue driving a vehicle that almost killed me 2 days ago because fca refuses to fix a defective part for several years.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2020

This vehicle has on at least four separate occasions in the last 2 years just simply stopped running. To be clear, each time I was in the middle of driving somewhere and the engine would just stop. Each time, I was driving somewhere locally and on city streets. The first few times this happened, I was either stopped at a stop sign, or stopped at a red traffic light, at which, I either "felt" the engine stop, or I realized it when I went to proceed after the stop and got no reaction from the car when I hit the gas and tried to proceed on my way. These times, I simply turned off the ignition, and started the engine again. I don't remember and didn't take note of whether all electrical had turned off or not. But the most recent time this happened was very concerning. It was July 10th, approximately 11pm, and I was driving on a local boulevard at approximately 40-45mph when, again, the engine just stopped. This of course, disabled power steering and power brakes. Headlights and radio continued to work. Thankfully, I was able to safely pull over and turn on my hazards. I then turned off the ignition, and was able to start the engine again. The car has not replicated the issue since then, but I have to consider this when I take my family for a drive/trip. I have to consider their safety, and the thought that it could just stop in the middle of a turn or at high speeds on the freeway, or both, is very concerning. The fact that the engine just stops, (and doesn't sputter or shudder or shake to a stop) makes me believe this is an electrical problem.

Luckily, I was never on the highway went it happened. I called Chrysler they informed me it was one of the vehicles in the recall, however they did not have a solution at the moment and I had to wait until Jan 2020. I could not drive a vehicle in that condition, so I took it to my mechanic. I called Chrysler to inform them of this and they said to just submit the proof of the service. However, when I did submit the proof they declined it stating Chrysler had not updated the recall and there were no parts. I should get reimbursed for the recall.

The vehicle is dangerous at this point as there have been a few close calls in traffic when this happens. The dealer says Jeep is working on it but there is no solution. It's been months with "no solution". This is dangerous! there's going to be an accident. Surely Jeep can come up with something to resolve this before someone dies.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2019

I was driving on the highway on 7/21/19 and my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee's engine seized. The car had to be towed and now Jeep has a 2 month waiting list for the hemi motor (which apparently this is a known problem for - that is why the waiting list is so long). It will be over $8000 to fix and I still owe on the loan for the car that I have had less than 3 years. If hemi motors are a problem, Jeep should make them with v6 not the hemi v8 motors. There is no recall for this as of now. I am stuck without a vehicle to get to work and a large loan for a useless Jeep that I can't drive. It has 90,000 miles on it. Why is Jeep allowed to continue to make these if they are such issues. Why is there not a recall on hemi engines in Jeeps? then when you try to call Jeep corporate they claim they return calls once a week (which they don't) and the customer service reps told me "thing happen". This is a terrible way of doing business and as a Jeep owner for many many years I will never buy a Jeep again. Hopefully this happens enough that they will need to do a recall and I can recoup some of my money back.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2019

I recently purchased this vehicle and it completely shuts off unexpectedly. When it does it affects both the braking and the steering. The first time I was stopped at a light and was an easy fix but the 2nd time I was getting off an exit around 50 mph. I have young children and now I am scared to drive them around in it. I know in not the only one this is happens, there's complaints all over the internet. There should be a recall before someone dies.

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

I had purchased my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5. 7 hemi in June 2019. Shortly thereafter, I was driving on the highway when the vehicle stalled out and the wheel became very hard to control. I managed to avoid causing a major accident and made it to the side of the highway where I then sat for over 4 hours stranded. After trying to start my Jeep it just started up out of the blue and I drove home. I was nervous to drive it but I had no other mode of transportation. Over the next few months it would increasingly stall out. Sometimes in mid turn , sometimes on the expressway and sometimes just not start at all. A recall came out and I was able to have the truck " repaired ". Not even a month later it started to do the same thing. Stalling in mid drive. Not starting at all or starting in neutral only. I took it to a different dealership and paid over 300$ for them to do a diagnosis. Their diagnosis consisted of a " walk around " and taking a video of the vehicle. What a waste of money. As I was going to leave the dealership the vehicle wouldn't start. Then after an hour it suddenly started. I had advised service about it and they said that I can leave the vehicle and have them look at it when they had time which they said would be 4 days from then. I said you just looked at it and did nothing and I had to pay 300$ for nothing to be diagnosed. I was able to get the car home and then the car didnt start for a week then started . . Would drive it then stalled and have to have it towed home a couple of times. Now the truck has been sitting in my driveway not able to start at all. The fuel pump relay was supposed to be replaced by two recalls I believe. Nothing was fixed and infact it only had made it worse probably causing damage to the rest of my vehicle. I am lucky I didnt crash, or even kill someone because of this. It is extremely dangerous and to not have the part fixed correctly nor even remedied with a replacement of the tipm is unbelievable.
