My 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland randomly had the driver headrest pop out of place and hit me in the back of the head while I was parked in my driveway.
After parking vehicle in my driveway at home, I opened the door and rotated my body to exit the car when I heard a very loud pop and realized the headrest had come very far forward. I found pieces of plastic in the seat behind me and am unable to move the headrest back to a closed position.
While my car was sitting idle at a stop light within the city limits of wilmington, nc the passenger side headrest exploded. There was no contact made to my vehicle, the headrest just exploded and sprung forward. Nobody was injured. Until I arrived home and googled what happened I didn't realize the headrest acted as an airbag or that this is a known issue with the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The air bag for the drivers headrest deployed without impact. The vehicle was stationary, parked in my driveway. I researched this issue and it appears there is an open investigation for similar incidents.
My driver side headrest has come loose, it's the cushioned part that your head actually rests on and it contains an airbag so I am concerned the airbag may inflate while I am driving. I have taken it to my local Jeep dealer and they say I have to pay to have it replaced. The cost is $750 plus installation.
The passenger headrest deployed while I was driving down the road on a city street no one was around my vehicle the street was empty my husband was in the passenger seat and it slammed into the back of his head. Now I'm nervous that the driver aide will do the same.
The air bag in the driver side headrest went off and the headrest is unable to reset. The def line and injectors went bad and I cannot drive my vehicle.
The driver headrest deployed while car was in park.
On 7. 25. 20 my husband and I were driving down interstate 29 at 80 mph and the driver side headrest exploded forward with great force and hit my husband in the back of the head. Luckily he was able to keep control of the vehicle so we didn't crash, however now he is dealing with neck/shoulder pain. He had to remove the headrest so we could continue to drive it, there is a wire attached to the 1 side so that had to be snipped to remove headrest. Now my service airbag system light is on, I'm surprised the damn thing even starts and runs. Now I feel like we need to remove passenger headrest completely to prevent another injury. This is ridiculous, I paid alot of money for this Jeep and have had numerous major issues that are expensive to fix.
Driver side active headrest deployed without cause. The vehicle was unattended when this occurred, and is not repairable without replacing.
While having a nice family outing on July 6,2020. We were heading to a butterfly house about an hour away. My husband was in the driver's seat driving. When suddenly we heard a loud pop! surprised and confused I started looking around expecting to find my daughter had thrown something or a pop bottle exploded. . . Nope my head rest deployed hitting my husband, hard, in the back of the head. This is not a safe issue he could have lost control and crashed. This needs to be resolved.
I was driving down a highway and suddenly heard a loud pop. I thought someone had shot at my car. My heart was racing and I was terrified. I continued driving and reached my home. I got out to inspect my vehicle for any damage and noticed that the driver's seat headrest had popped out. Luckily I am short so my head does not reach the headrest. If I was tall enough to reach the headrest the impact from the headrest popping out would have likely caused injury and possibly a vehicle accident.
The headrest active restraint on my Jeep driver side seat deployed for no reason. The clips that hold it in place broke off. The vehicle was running parked in a parking lot with no one sitting in the drivers side seat.
Headrest malfuctioned while driving. I was hit in the back of the head and heard a loud "popping" noise. Almost wrecked my car while driving, and there were children on board. The headrest deployed as if there was an accident, but there was no accident. It was very dangerous.
We were driving home after a long shift at the hospital, and suddenly while we're driving down the highway going 70, the passenger side headrest just pops, caused us to swerve out of surprise. We took it into a dealership, and after working on it for a few minutes they said that a part had broken out of it which caused it to activate. Then they wanted to charge us for the part and labor when it's obviously a defect if the part just broke out of nowhere. I contacted Jeep customer service, and they said since I took it to the dealership first and they possibly broke it, there's nothing they could do. So pretty much they want us to pay for a safety defect in their products.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the headrest air bag deployed without impact or collision. There was no warning. The contact regained control of the vehicle. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the roadway. The headrest failed to reconnect. Elkgrove Ford (9645 auto center dr, elk grove, CA 95757, (916) 249-1630) was contacted and informed of the failure. The contact was referred to lasher auto group (8585 laguna grove dr, elk grove, CA 95757, (916) 392-1400). The contact reached out lasher auto group and was informed to have the vehicle taken in to the dealer to be diagnosed which was still pending. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 124,750.
The passenger seat headrest deployed during the night. No one was sitting in the seat at the time.
River's side headrest deployed while vehicle was parked in the driveway. Designed to release upon collision. Unable to reset the headrest as the plastic clips are broken, dealership informed me this was not covered by the warranty. Clips holding headrest in place are plastic and degrade over time due to the heat. When they fail the headrest deploys.
While vehicle was parked (fortunately) the passenger seat active head restraint headrest) released breaking the plastic pins holding it together.
The airbag in the passenger side headrest deployed while the vehicle was parked in my driveway.
Our Jeep is having a issue with the airbag in the glovebox. It keeps acting like it is trying to blow up every time we get in and sometimes when we are driving awhile. I thought you had a recall on the airbags and now I don't see it on this vehicle.
Park at my garage I heard a noise . I open the door to ind out passangersaid head rest pop open.
Headrest popped without accident.
Headrest deployed without any accident and has broken tabs not running just parked, car has 71,000 miles and just had to replace lifters and rockers already not covered by warranty that "expired".
The driver headrest deployed without being in a collision and will not go back to its original position. The vehicle was not in motion when this occurred.
I entered my vehicle after it was it was stationary for approximately 10 hours to find the passenger side headrest assembly had deployed on its own without any external collision for force to the headrest assembly.
Inadvertent deployment of "active headrest" on driver's seat with no accident. Headrest spontaneously burst open. Vehicle was stationary and gear shifter was in park in my driveway with the engine running.
Ahr headrest deployed while driving.
I have a acc / fcw unavailable message that deactivates my auto breaking system to prevent a collision. This error message may relate to the orc module that may control other safety devices in the vehicle such as the air bags. This deactivation occurs while the vehicle is in motion city street and on the highway.
I got inside my Jeep which was parked in mt garage, in the afternoon to go to work and noticed that the driver side head restraint had deployed, I do not know why, when I had came from work the previous night and got out the Jeep it was fine. I looked in the owners manual and it described how to reset it. This did not work, I called the dealer (dayton andrews of saint petersburg, FL. ) and they said that it was a know problem and is not covered under the warranty. They want over $800 to replace it,.
Yesterday out of nowhere my passenger headrest deployed, I wasn't in an accident I was just parked and the headrest just popped out of place. I call the dealer and they told me is over $600 of repair. I don't understand why I should pay the repair when it is a vehicle malfunction.
The headrest "deployed" on me while driving, bopping me in the head. I don't know how or what to get that fixed under. The vehicle was in regular low speed motion pulling through a parking lot. I believe there is a design flaw in the headrest that caused clips to break and therefore hit me in the head. I believe this may be a huge safety risk for those who don't lean as far as I do or even use the headrest. Also I was moving at less than 5 miles per hour, this could be a huge safety issue if someone was moving at a much faster velocity. I also don't know how this device works or if its like an airbag, am I at risk if it re-deploys in the actual case of an accident?.
On 9/6/19 while traveling at a low rate of speed on a four lane road the driver's side headrest "exploded" propelling the front half of the headrest violently forward. This caused a hard hit to the back of my head that left me stunned. I was unsure of what happened until I was stopped at a light and could see that it had split forcing the front half into my head. If I had been traveling at a higher rate of speed or merging onto the nearby interstate that was my destination, this impact likely would have caused me to have an accident. The hit was so forceful that I am concerned it may have done some damage to my neck, so I may have to seek medical care. Once I got home I did a google search and found many reports and lawsuits regarding this defect in the active head restraint headrest on Chrysler/ Jeep products. I am the original owner of this vehicle and it has never been in an accident. Surely this issue merits a recall.
While driving, the drivers side head rest was activated causing the active head restrain to be deployed.
On 8-11-2019 I was driving straight on a paved road with my wife in the passengers seat at 35 mph. I heard a very loud pop and my wife laid forward on her lap in severe pain. The noise sounded like a gun shot. We both thought that my wife was shot by a gun. She yelled in pain. She asked me to check her head and neck for any signs of blood. I pulled over and checked her out. I noticed at that point the passenger side active headrest had deployed and struck her in the head. We were not in a accident or impacting anything. She had headaches, neck pain ,vomiting and loss of sleep for two weeks. I have called and e-mailed Chrysler and they opened up a case. Chrysler sent out a inspector to inspect our Jeep at the Jeep dealership. It has been 3 weeks and they have not followed up with me or fixed our vehicle. This active headrest deploying is very dangerous. This has caused serious injuries. No more people need to get hurt because of these defective deploying active headrests. We need a mandatory factory recall issued. No more drivers or passengers need to go thru the pain that my wife experienced.
