1 Software problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2020

On 12/23/2020 at 6:00am I was driving on long point road when the vehicle completely shutdown - all electrical, engine, lights, breaks, etc. I was driving at approx. 30mph heading towards a round-about when everything shutdown. The loss of power resulted in not being able to slow down. Luckily there weren't any cars in the round-about when I entered. However, it was a rather tight round-about and was not able to make the turn and I went over the curb and drove straight through the middle of the round-about. . The car restarted after about 3 seconds and the check engine light came on. Once the car restarted, acceleration was extremely limited. I continued to proceeded down long point road until I could pull off. About 1-2 minutes after the first power failure, another power failure/complete shut down occurred. The second power shutdown lasted about 5-7 seconds and turned back on. I immediately pulled off and shut the car off and let it sit for several minutes. When I restarted it, the check engine light was on, but went off after several hours. It's worth noting, I just received the ecodeisel software updated (I think v7). This update was performed on 12/21/20.

2 Software problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2020

Our Jeep's shifter occasionally refuses to go into "park" after coming to a complete stop and will not go into park even after opening the driver door which is supposed to automatically happen based on the fix in safety recall s27/NHTSA 16v-240. The Jeep dealership told me there is a short in the shifter but the repair wouldn't be covered because the safety recall was only for a "software" issue not a "mechanical" issue with the shifter. Either way, it is a safety hazard that we can not safely park our vehicle and we are experiencing something that should have been fixed in the mentioned safety recall, but wasn't.

I have a recurring problem with my 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has been going on for a period of 17 months. My problem started in may, 2016 when my navigation system failed by giving me the wrong information by instructing me to turn into a one way (wrong way) traffic lane. This has since happened many times since then by directing me incorrectly. The complete navigation system, clock & compass, periodically don't work. On occasion I receive the following message on my vehicle's computer screen "vehicle phone requires service please contact your dealer. " after numerous appointments with the dealer & telling them that the problem is not with my phone they finally said they could not repair the problem and gave me an 800 number to call the manufacturer customer service. After numerous discussions with various customer service people over a period of two months, on 9/28/2017 customer service person patricia said there is nothing they can do to repair the vehicle however that a "Jeep service bulletin #08-028-17 with updates to software level 17. 11. 07 will occur in a phased roll-out and maybe the problem will go away. " they told me I would receive download instructions but could not tell me when these instructions would be sent out. The system will work periodically but fails more often than not. Yesterday I was again using the navigation in an area that I unfamiliar with and the system again tried to route me into oncoming traffic.

I was driving to work today and all of a sudden I smelled a burning smell in the front of my car and all the lights lit up on my dash and my digital speedometer started going up and down in speed but I was not going any faster or slower. This is not the first time I have smelled something burning in my Jeep. I had it in for service on 5/515 and it was there until 6/8/15 for these same kind of problems. All my dealership keeps doing is flashing the software and telling me it is fixed. I no longer feel safe driving my Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have had so many electrical problems that are not getting fixed. My transmission takes so long to shift gears and sometimes gets stuck in neutral while I am driving, my tires constantly feel like they are slipping and I do not feel like I have complete control of the vehicle because of it. I have a six year old child that rides in my Jeep everyday and I do not feel safe putting them in it. I have tried to call fca and they refuse to talk to me or help me with a resolution to these problems. I just want to feel safe when I am driving and also to feel safe putting my child in my vehicle and at this point I do not feel safe in my Grand Cherokee anymore and it is a shame.

The car alarm continues to go off on its own. I have already had a software update for multiple problems with the radio, phone pairing, etc. Have tried to set the alarm remotely by phone, by locking vehicle from inside the vehicle and also by touching button on door handle. No matter how I lock the vehicle the same thing continues to happen with the alarm going off.

Since I bought this vehicle when one turns a corner and the paddle shifter is in advertently touched the car can drop into any gear and can slow so that one stands a risk of being rear ended as has narrowly happened to me . There is a real need to prevent this dangerous behavior to have a preventer mechanism of some sort to prevent this by reprogramming the software or by mechanical means by installing a switch of some sort that must be separately engaged to transfer control of gear to the paddle shifter.
