The 2018 Jeep grand cheeroke uconnect/radio screen delaminates and causes the unit to make all kinds of error calls, gps location changes and disabling events, without being touched. This is a serious safety concern and that Jeep or stellantis should voluntarily recall these units for replacement. The driver's attention gets constantly divided to take care of these extra things while driving.
The u connect screen is DE-laminating and this is leading to ghost presses on the screen. If my phone is connected, it will start randomly calling people. The entertainment system will change inputs, stations or tracks at random - allowing up to 4 seconds before switching. The automatic climate control will change fan speeds and function constantly. The gps navigation screen will not stay up and tries to reroute while driving or switch to another function. This is not just an glitch every once in a while, this is constant change - I have a 20 second video showing the screen changing to the climate controls, turning off the auto function, change fan speeds 4 times, change the vents being used then going back to auto and then changing the screen to the media screen and then putting the time change up. My kids are saying the car is possessed. This behavior is very distracting to the driver and is a hazard. Other safety issues include not being able to use navigation to get to an unknown location and not being to use hands free calling. Does not matter if the car is moving or stationary.
Extremely unsafe condition. The lamination on the monitor is peeling/cracking and obscuring the information shown on the electronic read out. For functions such as gps, this is very dangerous. I spend more valuable seconds trying to read the monitor (eyes off the road) in trying to understand and read the data. Luckily, I haven't had any incidents, but I would guess there have been multiple accidents caused by this very fixable condition in most Jeep's of this vintage. I implore you to initiate a recall ASAP.
The screen has been doing phantom touches most likely due to the bubble forming under the top layer (currently getting it diagnosed for delamination). This is a safety risk due to the distraction from the changes on the screen and the fact that it will cause me to look at the screen and not at the road. The radio, phone and also gps all are affected currently. I am not able to use handsfree for my phone and the gps is not usable as well. Like I said, the vehicle currently has an appointment set up to be diagnosed so it can be submitted to uconnect. There is no warning messages for this.
The stop/start feature on my Jeep has just stopped working. The battery has been checked and rechecked and replaced. It doesn't work. The biggest problem now is the 8. 4 touchscreen display that malfunctions. The gps is connected to this along with the radio and backup camera. Other features include the phone, climate control, and other functions. The phone will randomly select contacts I am not trying to call, and the gps will randomly set locations I am not trying to go. The screen will jump from one application to another which is extremely distracting while driving. I've tried turning the screen off completely but this isn't helpful if I'm actually using my navigation. It's dangerous.
On 11/24/22 my touch screen began to show a box that blocked the entire screen asking if I wanted to adjust my clock. I tapped "no" and it would not clear. I tapped the "x" in the corner and it would not clear. So I tapped yes and it took me to another screen to sync with gps etc. Then it would disappear. It kept repeating this and then would flash and beep. Then disappear and reappear the entire trip. I then noticed that there was a discoloration or delamination at the top of the screen so I "googled" this issue and apparently the 2018 Jeep vehicles have an issue with this where the radio/ navigation / screen system / bluetooth/ apple car play will act on it's own - shut down, change stations, etc. It is still ongoing so I took it to my dealer and they confirmed the delamination issue and have ordered a new radio system. This is a safety concern and I was unable to see the navigation or use the touch screen to control the heating system or anything else controlled by the touch screen, not to mention a distraction while driving.
The uconnect screen is delaminating and causing the screen to be completely useless. It calls people randomly and does not allow you to call 911 in an emergency. It also renders gps useless. This is a known problem in this vehicle and it needs to needs to be taking care of! it is a safety hazard when the screen is going bazerk and you are driving! it is extremely distracting and you cannot use 90% of the functionality of your dash!.
The display monitor at the front dash is delaminating and has progressively gotten worse. You could see a clear line where there was a start of separation in the screen, that has spread to a large portion of the screen. This causes the screen to apply pressure against itself, pressing buttons on its own and taking actions not wanted by the driver. I’ve had it close out gps while driving through a busy city. It has called 911 when I had my phone connected. It has turned the heated seats on and off and adjusted the air settings. I cannot use hands free options. This is a major distraction while driving and you cannot even turn the monitor off due to it turning itself back on. This is a safety hazard and a quick google search will show that this is a common problem!.
The head unit which controls, among other things, the ‘sos’ calling system, the gps, the cellphone (for calling 911) has a membrane screen which delaminates and causes the unit to make all kinds of eronious calls, gps location changes and disabling events. I feel this is a serious safety concern and that the mfr. (delphi) should voluntarily recall these units for replacement.
My u-connect screen is delaminating and the glue is leaking out. This is causing the radio/mp3/gps guidance to constantly change settings, stations & songs and causing me to play with it constantly while driving. It did put me in a situation once while driving in an unfamiliar area where I had to reset the map display like every 10 seconds to find my way out. I now use my old garmin. Several times I almost ran into a vehicle ahead of me or started drifting into the other lane from the distraction. I now leave the entire radio off unless I want to change my heat/ac/fan settings.
Infotainment system-system works on its own. Changes radio stations and bands at will causing driver distraction. Changes temp/vent direction at will. Worst is that it has called 911 4 times while driving. Wont allow hands free calling or gps entry. I have 1st dealer appointment next month as it does not seem to be a priority to dealer.
The factory installed uconnect uaq 8. 4 inch screen (part 68306656al) is DE-laminating. This started as just a "bubble" on the screen that wouldn't go away in the upper section around 45,000 miles or April 2021. It has since grown to span about an inch of the entire top of the screen. During this expansion of the "bubble" or DE-lamination ghost touches started happening causing the screen and operation to jump around. This severity and portion of the screen experiencing these ghost touches has continued to grow. A potential safety issue exists as I was using the gps at one point and a ghost touch caused it to jump to another screen just as I was approaching an intersection looking at which way to turn when the screen jumped to another option and I diverted my attention from the road to the screen to get it back to the gps and find out which direction I needed to go. I have not taken my specific vehicle into a dealer/independent service center for verification because many of the same issues I've researched online and compared who have had this independently verified mirror the exact same symptoms/issues.
The radio continues to turn on and off by itself. Attempts to make phone calls when nothing was dialed. Gps turns on and off when it is not being utilized. Air and heat turns on and off when not being utilized.
