I am experiencing a major problem with my vehicle, 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland (manufacture date 10/01). Nhtsa campaign number 01v374000 clearly affects my vehicle, as I am experiencing the exact problem associated with that recall and fall within the specific dates of vehicles affected, however, daimler/Chrysler refuses to honor the recall, claiming my vehicle is unaffected. If I fill the vehicle completely (until automatic shutoff), all the fuel in the filler neck leaks to the ground. If I fill the vehicle less than full (not up to the filler neck) no leakage occurs. It is clearly the uel inlet check valve and my vehicle is clearly affected. Not only is this a safety issue (fire, or worse) which is the main concern, but also a waste of fuel (and expense) and is damaging to the environment. In speaking with the representative at daimler/Chrysler, they flatly refuse to honor the existing recall, claiming it is a warranty item, however, because the vehicle is out of warranty, I am responsible.

The vehicle is a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When the fuel tank is 1/4 full or less, while making a sweeping left turn, the engine will nearly stall out. It will do this on any left turn when the fuel tank is at that level. It did not do this ever for the first 100,000 miles or so. What part could be causing this and why only on left turns?.

I have a 1998 Grand Cherokee that whenever the tank is at 1/4 tank full or below, on a hard left turn, the engine will completely stall/die. I was in an extremely near miss yesterday because of this and have researched on the web - lots of people having this problem and no recalls for the problem. This is extremely dangerous and I can't see why Chrysler doesn't recognize the problem. It's happened to me before but never been life threatening which is why I'm now writing.
I own a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 6 cylinder engine. Whenever the gas tank is 1/4 full or below, the engine stalls out completely when I make a left turn. It appears that because the gasoline in the tank is pushed to the right, the fuel intake is either blocked or is unable to access the fuel. It appears to me to be a design defect because I have talked to other owners who have the same problem. This is extremely dangerous. This vehicle (and,I believe, all in its class) have power steering, power brakes, etc. To lose power in the middle of a turn when the vehicle is in motion is to lose control. I have not had an accident. I am terribly afraid that I will.

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 4. 7 litre. Whenever the fuel is less than half a tank the engine stalls when taking a curve or making a turn. I had to take to a ditch last week to avoid being run over by a semi when the engine cutout eliminating the chance for me to accelerate out of harms way. One local dealer acknowledges the existence of the problem - one denies they ever heard of it. A local mechanic talk show had someone with the same vehicle call in a coupld of weeks ago and they acknowledged their awareness of the problem when I called in today. A woman at Chrysler headquarters last week put me on hold when I called in and when she came back she said she was reading a similar complaint. She then denied that there is any problem (because my vehicle is out of waranty). If someone has not already died as a result of this problem someone surely will. I would appreciate assistance on this matter. Thank you!

While driving at approximately 70mph on expressway, fuel line became detatched causing engine to fail. Fuel line failed without warning and was not a result of any mechanical damage. Failure of fuel line resulted in a large fuel spill underneath vehicle which had been driven for past 15 hours on a trip from florida to illinois. We had a concern that fuel spill could have ignited from heated components of the vehicle's undercarriage. Dt.
The vehicle would not start; engine cranks w/o starting. Initially it would crank for long periods, ie. 20 seconds, and start. Then not at all. Took it to dealer, who was aware of service bulletin issued fuel delivery system, at tank fuel pump problem. Repair was made at cost of appr. $400. 00. I feel this should be a recall and repair should have been made free of charge.
Fuel pump died on busy highway creating safety peril. Police had to be called. Dt.

Intermittent hard starting or extended cranking. Diagonois-fuel pump losing pressure due to fuel pump o-ring(fuel seal). Dt.
Jeep required plastic gas tank to be replaced in order to warantee 600 dollar new fuel pump. Bill to replace fuel pump and gas tank was 1300 with labor. This is not right. If gas tank is failing due to gas additives this should be recall/replacement by Jeep. This car has been well maintained. Dt.
I understand that earlier model years have a recall or something similar becasue of a coating used on the inside of the gas tank that gets eaten away over time by an additive in the gas that is used in the north. This lining then clogs the pump and filter causing failure. The cost of parts and labor endied up being over 800 dollars. If this is a known problem why isn't it taken care of? mr.
The fuel pump is being replaced the 3rd time today in 3 months. Dt.

Nhtsa recall 01v374000/ manufacturer's recall a06. Got recall notice, called dealer to make an appointment. Dealer stated had to order parts. When consumer went to dealer, dealer stated parts were on backorder. Please add VIN.
A leak was in the fuel line, gas fumes were coming inside of vehicle, contacted dealer, and consumer was informed thaat the fuel line needed to be replaced. Consumer stated that the transmission is slamming hard when engaging in reverse, also the dash and radio lights flicker on and off at times.

Fuel sensor was replaced in 1997 and may 2001, and once again. Fuel was not feeding through lines, causing vehicle to hesitate. Vehicle came out repair shop, and in rain 2 days later, vehicle almost came to a stop at 60-65mph. Consumer took it back, and techinician test drove vehicle with consumer noting the problems. June 8, dealer kept it for a week, and problem was still there.
Leaking gas, coming out of hoses between gas tank fill and gas tank, have tighten 2 hose clamps 3 times, hoses seem to be dryrotted won't hold fuel injection pressure.
When the vehicle makes around about turns with 1/2 tank of fuel or less it would either hesitate or stall intermittently. Dealer was notified of this issue.
Fuel pump failed. Yh.
The car was hard to start and sometimes sluggish and occasionally surged suddenly on accelaration. The car was kept five days , a new fuel pump installed that failed completely on installation. With the number of tbs related to engine performance , starting etc. I would not think it totally unlikely the integrity of the fuel pump might be related to some of those. The engine accelrations were extreme and dangerous.
Won't start. Bad fuel pump, national back order. Still hard starting after replaced.
Joe@mi-net. Com : problems=steering, fueling, tran. Slips 2nd-3rd,won't start, brake pulsation, shift to reverse loud clunk noise.
Driving up a very steep hill at night. Car starts to buck wildly, loose power, rpm goes constantly from 300 to 2000. Seems fuel starved. Over hill, engine seems to run fine. Then on highway at 70 mph, engine shuts itself off, twice within half hour. Dealer says computer chip and replaces, but not fixed. Then says fuel pump. Replaces. Now six weeks later, same thing happening to car. Not fuel gauge problem, as tank 3/4 full.
Fuel sending unit failed while turning at a very busy intersection. This caused the vehicle to stall which potentially could of caused a fatality. Jeep replaced the unit and we have not had a problem since. This vehicle always leaks fuel when filled despite not being "topped off". I will awaken in the morning to a puddle of gas under the car. I feel that my garage may explode one day. These are two very serious problems relating safety. Overall, this vehicle has poor attention paid to detail. I have had many more problems with this vehicle compared to the entire life of my used Acura with 120,000 miles.
Consumer received a recall notice in the mail regarding a fuel tank blocker bracket. Consumer has taken the vehicle to the local dealership to have the recall work repaired. The work was not performed because consumer has an after market trailer hitch on the vehicle which prevents them from being able to install the bracket. The choices given to consumer was to either have the hitch removed or to live with the problem.
Consumer received recall notice 01v348000 relating to the vapor canister vent hose and fuel filler nlet check valve. However, consumer is having scheduling problems with dealership due to parts that are not in stock.
Consumer received recall notice 01v374000. Called dealer to make an appointment for recall repairs, was informed by dealer that parts were not available. . Consumer stated the repairs have since been made.
Consumer responded to a recall 01v37 and was told by the dealership that the fuel tank needed to be replaced and the parts would be ordered. Consumer is still waiting. The dealer informed consumer that they have no idea when the parts would be shipped that there was nothing they could do.
Consumer received safety recall notification relating to the fuel lines and fittings. Recall component repairs cannot be done due to lack of parts. Consumer is upset that he cannot fill tank without the fuel gushing out all over the side of the vehicle.
