Vehicle refused to turn over, service 4x4 and engine light on. Brought to dealer replaced fuel pump. Returned to me with service 4x4 and engine light on, slid down on hill no 4 wheel drive. Returned to dealer 4 weeks later transfer case replaced car jump into 4 wheel low while I was on highway almost put me thru windshield. Back at dealer over 1 week the do not know the problem and stated no one on their country wide database has this problem. I was told today that Jeep headquarters wants all reports sent to them to assist repair. I purchased this car used in October and have not driven it more then 1 week. I have a huge payment and huge rental bills I did file a case with Jeep customer but no help.
Several hours after parking the vehicle I noticed a sound like a small motor or fan coming from under the vehicle. I tried everything to get it to stop then looked at the fuses list and since the noise was coming from near the fuel pump I touched the fuel pump fuse. The sound stopped even though I had not removed the fuse. The vehicle was not able to start after that. The dealer has told me that Jeep has a problem with their "totally integrated power module" Jeep's case number [xxx] and that they have produced a work around electronic patch to by pass the integrated power module! I believe this is very dangerous because a by pass to a hot wired fuel pump is a formula for a disaster. There may be software that is supposed to cut off fuel in an accident etc in the computer module? since the problem results in the fuel pump continuously running many things could go wrong. I own a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo and the fuel pump went bad and I could smell smoke, like and electrical problem. The mechanic said it was the fuel pump and I authorized him to repair. I then looked online to find that the fuel pump which my Jeep had was a recalled aftermarket fuel pump from airtex. I called airtex and they gave me the run around asked me all sorts of questions , are you sure this is the right one and did I have the part to ship back to them. I called the mechanic and he already replaced it with a new airtex fuel pump and threw the other away. I have the receipt but cannot send the old fuel pump back. They refuse to reimburse me for this recalled product even when my mechanic wrote down the old make and model number of the old recalled fuel pump. This is wrong and unfair. $500 I am out .

This is a commonly known defect with these Jeeps which has never been adequately addressed by the NHTSA. Someone is going to get killed if the manufacturer is not held responsible. Infamous stalling problem. Whether going 10 mph or 70 mph, vehicle will stall with no warning. Generally will re-start after turning off ignition, but not always immediately. On my Jeep, I have replaced the computer module, crankshaft position sensor, fuel pump, fuel filters, maf sensor, distributor cap, rotor, plugs and plug wires. I have had the computer module wiring harness reworked. Still stalls, and I have been forced to park the Jeep for safety reasons.
