Several diagnostic codes referred to oxygen sensor problems that caused the check engine light to go on and off on multiple occasions which eventually lead to the vehicle misfiring, which lead to multiple diagnostic codes and loss of power, unburned fuel, and stalling. It was learned that the manufacturer put the wrong oxygen sensor on the vehicle, oxygen sensors were installed with incorrect parts which could cause engine to lose power or stall, increasing the risk of a crash or fire due to unburned fuel from one or more cylinder misfire.

Over a one (1) month period, my car has been serviced by the dealer four (4) times due to a hesitation when accelerating especially at speeds over 60 mph. When attempting to accelerate the car begins to stutter and the malfunction indicator light appears and continually flashes. This problem has nearly caused me to be in two accidents! when this first began, the problem occurred only at higher speeds. However, by the third and fourth occurrence it was happening at only 20 mph and when at a stop light the car would shake and begin to die. There are only 12,000 miles on the vehicle and it is less than one (1) year old.

At the gas station the tank took 24. 5 gallons (tank capacity 23. 5 gals. )I could have got smashed by another car had I got to the highway. A recall was made on a few similar models but not for when my car was built. I feel all 1997 Jeeps should get this recall before someone gets killed. Thanks dr. Dinshaw sidhwa.
