Jeep Grand Cherokee owners have reported 19 problems related to rearview system braking (under the back over prevention category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Jeep Grand Cherokee based on all problems reported for the Grand Cherokee.
Sensors that activate when objects are close to vehicle and are supposed to warn collision do not work at all. Sometimes they activate when there are no obstacles at all and the vehicle is stationary. Pedestrians are not noticed nor are objects/vehicles that are in the way as the vehicle is in motion (and even stationary). Also the system seems to reboot at will while driving.

Aeb light comes on saying limited functionality service required. We have taken it to the dealer and they service department said no codes for that problem showed up and said if it did it again pull into any dealership and have them check it. It happens constantly so it happened right when in front of one of their dealership so we pulled in and they checked again and it did come up showing an electrical issue. They saw our pictures I was continuing to take of the dash showing how often it comes up. So I did just that and had a photo book, the size of a wedding album showing how it went off sometimes every two hours. *then the lane depart doesn't work, it will not vibrate, which we have all the settings on and set to the highest setting. Warning for cross traffic when in reverse doesn't always work sometimes it won't even go off when someone walks close to the back of vehicle. * on just a few occasion the rear door will not close when button is pushed, we have to physically close it. *sometimes it will continually slam on the breaks when we try to back out of our garage, taken several times of me putting in park and trying again. *also sometimes when backing out it won't drive when I put in drive, I have to put in park, then move it to drive. Is currently in the dealership, they have had it for 4 days and cannot figure it out but acknowledge it is happening.
Dash lights for esc, fcw and traction control are on and a message states that these are not functioning. No crash has occurred.

The automatic emergency braking system activates randomly while driving abruptly stopping the vehicle in traffic. This has happened several times and we no longer feel safe driving. Luckily no one has been behind us when it happens otherwise I feel a crash would be unavoidable. The vehicle has now been to the dealer twice with no repairs made. The techs are always unable to duplicate the concern. Last time this happened my wife was driving around 40mph when the crash warning message flashed and stopped the vehicle. (no one was in the way).

This vehicle had a software update for the cross traffic warning and rear view camera. The camera is working but since this update, the cross alarms do not work consistently. Just today, I almost backed into a parked car, no alarms or anything.
I have owned this car for almost 1 year. From day one this "radio" area 10" screen with a computer behind it has been over heating and glitching out. The effects of this are several and random. Freezing and restarting randomly. Calls dropping from car to phone and back again intermittantly. While using gps maps will freeze so I miss turns and I am not where the maps says I am. After reversing the backup picture on screen from camera will sometime freeze on screen even 5 min after I am moving forward and it is a frozen picture. Most recently a disturbing saftey issue is that I was backing into my driveway and the screen froze and not backing up warning sound or visual was real time and I almost hit my fence, as my screen showed green lines and that I was plenty far away when in fact I was inches from the fencing. The dealership has replaced the glass screen but not the modual or computer behind it. They have sent me softare updates over the air. I have heard from them and from others this is a major issues with this model and year with these panasonic computers in them. I am very sad and frustrated about this!.
The radio randomly changes every 5 seconds, the beeping will drive a person insane, blutooth will hang up or not allow me to answer or call out. The seat warmers turn on randomly as well and I’m unable to lower the temp or turn them off. A/c in the winter and heat the summer. Auto start doesn’t work cuz vehicle shuts itself off after 30s - 1 min and navigation is useless cuz of this electrical gremlin. How long before it accelerates by itself or cuts the engine while I’m on the freeway. Safety hazard.
Hello, I own a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee still under warranty and in the last few months have noticed the display screen starting to delaminate, it has become an eyesore but it does not bother me. What does bother me is what happens as the display screen delaminates. The glue melts, and leaks onto wiring of all the components under the screen including the ac, all the parking sensors/rear sensors, and traction control, causing them to short out. Shortly after my screen started to delaminate I noticed a notification on my dash telling me that my rear sensors were no longer accessible. Since then I have had multiple cars in my blind spot that I could not see that posed the potentially threat of a terrible accident. After noticing this I went online to see if anyone else was having this problem and as soon as I clicked search, thousands upon thousands of reviews and message boards full of people having the exact same issue I am having came up. This is not only a problem with the 2019 it is also a problem with previous Jeep Grand Cherokee models and models after 2019, ex:'20, '21, '22. Jeep obviously knows that there is a flaw in their display screens because of all of the online commotion about it, but what I don't think they know is that this one problem causes many more problems due to the glue leakage onto other wiring underneath the display screen. With the amount of crucial wiring and electrical systems that newer model cars rely on, I feel that this is a huge safety concern not only for myself but for the hundreds of thousands of Jeep Grand Cherokee owners in the us. All it would take is a few drops of glue from the display screen to leak on a crucial component underneath the display screen shorting out the sensors to cause a horrific accident for drivers that have become use to their blind spot sensors and rely on them for safety. Please help us notify Jeep about this concerning issue so they can recall the screen and potentially save lives. Thank you so much!.

The 8. 4 uconnect back up camera isn't working properly in my 2019 Grand Cherokee. I've spoken with several Jeep mechanics and they all say it's a faulty software issue with all of the 8. 4 units. . There is a recall but Jeep dealers refuse to reinstall the faulty software. . Instead they want to replace the whole unit for 2000 dollars. . Everybody knows about this problem but nothing is being done.
Uconnect screen with radio/nav/driver controls is delaminating, causing screens to change and overriding all driver selections. Safety issue. Multiple complaints on Jeep forum and class action lawsuit in 2022 which has been closed due to overwhelming number of complaints. It’s a well known issue with fca but they refuse to issue recall. Backup camera freezing and hand free difficult to use. Distracting and unsafe. Fca needs to issue recall!.
-the front and rear camera work intermittently, and yes it is available for inspection upon request. - during the morning, afternoon, or during the night, the package that includes the security that the vehicle has about vision by cameras does not work, putting their own lives and others at risk by not seeing the blind and low spots from the Jeep Grand Cherokee summit reserve 2023, causing a fatal accident. - the has been confirmed by a dealer because me personally and my wife have delivered the Jeep Grand Cherokee summit reserve 2023 with the problem in its maximum expression to the dealer. - the vehicle has been inspected more than eight times, but the dealer technician and Chrysler technician don't know yet how to fix the problem. Non exist any warning lamp, messages, or other symptoms of the problem before the failure.
From the time the vehicle is started, there is an approximate 15 second delay for the backup camera and rear cross traffic alert to display a live view when in reverse and the vehicle is in motion. I. E. Putting the vehicle in reverse immediately after starting the engine will show a frozen, then 1-2 second delayed view of the actual image when in reverse. This problem happens any time the vehicle is started, and corrects after about 15 seconds, when finally an actual live view is displayed by the backup camera when in reverse.

Bought this vehicle 6 months ago and and realized right after purchase it has an error within the radio system that causes backup issues. The error appears on the radio and states “contact dealer” for radio service. What the vehicle does is that the backup camera becomes inoperable (black screen) and in my case the radio turns on straight heat blowing hot air from the system and turning on both defrosters, front and back. After doing some research, it appears that many 2014 Jeep owners and other years around this time period are experiencing this issue. Since the backup camera and backup sensors no longer work due to this error (it has to do with the sierra wireless card within the radio) it becomes a safely issue when it stops in the middle of backing up and is very scary. In texas, having straight heat blown at you and your glass makes the windows fog or becomes unbearable at 105 degree temperatures. Dealer is aware of the issue and wants more then $1200 to replace radio. I tried to self repair by removing radio and updating software to current version but sierra wireless car is soldiered to the motherboard of the radio and cannot be removed. I did however get the software to update after three attempts and 6 hours of updating. This did not fix the error that causes this. I believe it is due to a sierra wireless card failure and normally happens right after startup.
The infotainment screen is faulty, it is delaminating and causing a lot of distracting and dangerous driving issues: - rear camera and warnings do not work correctly - screen flickers, and changes screen which is very distracting while driving. - screen will randomly turn on or off and change settings. It has been ongoing since December 2021, I took it to the dealer who told me it was just a software issue and it would update and fix it. It never did. I took it back (now out of warranty) told me they would fix it and ordered the part. After trying to contact them, 6 weeks later, they are now refusing to fix it. Jeep are telling me the same thing.
Uconnect screen is bubbling and delaminating. As a result it is causing the touch screen to act crazy. Back up camera will freeze and stay on screen even when not in reverse, radio will change on its own, clock setting will continue to flicker on screen, air and heat will randomly turn on and up. Entire touch screen will freeze and act up.
The component I am reporting is the uconnect touch screen/control panel within the head unit of the car. The screen is delaminating, which is resulting in distorted images during use (quite noticeable when using the backup camera). Also, while the vehicle is in motion, random buttons are being pressed on the interface as a result of this delamination, which is extremely distracting while driving the vehicle. Researching this issue online shows many owners of 2018 Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge vehicles fitted with this same uconnect screen to be experiencing the same issue, which leads me to believe this is a manufacturer defect.
The infotainment system (radio) has been delaminating and has ghost touches. It stops to work at any moment causing a safety issue. Reverse camera stops working and the ghost touches are very distracting while driving.
