My driver side tail light will not work when the lights are on at night. It works fine when I press my brake if the lights are not on. I have replaced all bulbs and this still does not correct the problem. Now the other side of my vehicle is doing the same thing. I have noticed other Jeeps while driving that are having the same problem.

As has been published in two other postings I see, my left tail light would work well, until I depressed the brakes, then it would go out. I had the bulb replaced 2 or 3 times, then took it to the local dealer today. $190 later, it is supposed to be repaired. We'll see. . .

There hasn't been a accident in my vehicle but there is a known issue with the driver's side tail light on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I have noticed all the ones around the same model the same problem exists. This is a problem that has gotten me pulled over once recently with no ticket issued. I had it looked at before it is not the bulb this seems to be a vehicle defect since as I said before it isn't just happening to mine. This could end up causing someone a bad wreck at night if the other light were to blow without you knowing. I have already contacted Jeep they blew me off with no help.
2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran hot and shut off. Consumer stated that her daughter had to leave the vehicle on the side of the highway at 3 am because it ran hot and cut off. The water pump, thermostat, cooling fan and radiator has been replaced on more than one occasion. The consumer received a recall notice regarding a defect with the radiator cooling fan which could cause the vehicle to overheat. However, after the recall was performed, the consumer continued to experience problems with the vehicle. The crankshaft position sensor was replaced and the left rear tail lamp was inoperative.
There are two problems with this model of Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo. 1) the tail light socket in this model of Jeeps constantly burns out. I have replaced this socket numerous times at $8. 00 - $10. 00 each and have kept all of the burned out sockets as evidence. When the socket burns out, the tail lights stop working once you turn the headlights on. My vehicle has automatic headlights and this truly causes a big problem. I've visited a Jeep / Chrysler junk yard in my area and checked each tail light socket. Each socket is burned out like each of the sockets that I have in my possession. 2) the outside rail that connects the drivers seat to the risers breaks, converting the drivers seat to a rocking chair. I have spoken with the service and parts departments all of the Jeep dealers in a 100 mile radius of zip code (20744) and was told that these issues are a common problem with Jeeps from 1994 to 2004. I have also spoken with several friends as well as common strangers who I see with this same model Jeep and have learned that they also have this problem and the below problems. I believe that this problems are a safety issue and warrant a safety recall. I have received two tickets on two separate occasions for the tail lights alone. I can understand having to change a light bulb every year or two but not the socket that the bulb plugs into. This is a serious defect that Chrysler will not address. Please help!.

While driving, consumer applied brakes and without warning brakes made noise and skipped. The rear axle seals were leaking. Left front out side mirror was loose. The right front window rattles. The rear hatch light was inoperable. The brakes pulsated and the rotors were resurfaced. Shock absorber makes noise when hitting slight bumps. The vehicle rattle in front at 15-30 mph. The front tires were wearing out due to misalignment. The vehicle was hard to start after warmed up.
Both tail light assemblies failed (brake lights do not work when the headlights are on). The failure was due to the ground connection of the brake lamps, which is part of the tail light assy. The assy is not strong enough to withstand the brake light bulbs when secured and cracks. This compromises the ground connection and the lights do not function correctly. Must replace tail light assy.
