Yesterday afternoon my wife was preparing to run errands when she backed over something in our garage. She pulled the Jeep forward, put it in park. She left it running as she got out, and took a couple of steps to the back to find what she ran over. She told me she heard the car rev briefly, then suddenly accelerate towards her. She couldn't jump out of the way and grabbed the door. In a few seconds, she was dragged down the driveway, across the street, across a neighbor's driveway and into his lawn. When she reached ground she dropped and the Jeep continued until it reversed into a tree, smashing the rear.

After parking the Jeep in my garage, I left it running to check for clearance. After ensuring the vehicle was stopped and in park I exited the car. The car started moving very quickly and the door was bent backwards and then proceeded to hit me and travel about an eighth of a mile before crashing.

Power trans failure.
I have a 2000 grand cherokee. With 4. 0l, auto trans. , 4x4 select trac. It shifts hard taking off from a start. Seems like it double shifts while increasing speed, goes from 2nd gear to hiigh gear then back to 2nd gear and then back again all within a few seconds. I took it to a transmission shop where they explained to me about the possibility of an o-ring seal that was to small and to replace it would require the transmission to be removed from the vehicle. Very expensive. I haven't had the repair completed yet. Before I take it in for repair, has anyone else experience this problem and or another fix?.

Leased Jeep on 12/30/03. On 03/04 Jeep was in an accident due to sudden unattended acceleration, report submitted earlier. It was sent to precision auto body, hastings, mi for repair. While at the shop, it has been noted without the key in the ignition the Jeep can be shifted into any gear. This is in federal violation of standard 114. The dealership has been notified, as well as a request for an investigator from Chrysler to come out and look at this problem. No action as of yet.

Another vehicle and mine was backing out of a parking lot and backed in to each other, no damage done, I parked my truck, got out and the vehicle went backwards and backed into the same vehicle again and did damage this time.
When trying to put fuel into the vehicle with the ignition running, the vehicle shifted from park into reverse and rolled backwards. The vehicle was in four wheel drive at the time. The driver's side door was opened and the truck knocked down the driver, and the door caught on the fueling pump, breaking the driver's side door. The vehicle stopped upon hitting another vehicle.
While vehicle was in parking gear, still running, it shifted from park into reverse on its own, hitting a tree and then shifted to drive. The body damage has been repaired. No problems found with the transmission.
