1 Defogger problem of the 2002 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 12/10/2007

Hello and thanks for listening, I purchased a 2002 Jeep grand cherokee limited with 47,000 miles about 4 months ago and at around 55,000 miles the passenger heat and defrost quit working while the driver's side continued to operate properly. That was so until I went to a local dealership to find that the passenger "blend air door" was showing "too large of travel" by the dealership computer. What this means is the door that aids in directing the heat to the designated vents on the passenger side is broken. Estimated cost to replace was given to be $737 and that was if I scheduled repair within one month. Two weeks later the driver's side heat and defrost quit working along with the recirculation vent that inhibits outside air in the ventilation system. I am unable to drive this car at present time due to the inability to defrost the windows. After trying to troubleshoot the problem I find this to be a problem due to poor design in the grand cherokee in the years 1999-2004. It is also my understanding failure of these parts was so common that many models were repaired with the same factory parts and failed after being replaced by the dealerships. Then in 2007 the Chrysler corporation acknowledged only to the dealerships that these parts were being replaced with newer designs due to the original designs were insufficient for this type ventilation system. In other words the engineering of the system was sure to be a problem for owners. Please investigate this problem and make Chrysler/Jeep recall these systems and repair with the upgraded parts before someone kills innocent people due to accidents related to foggy windshields. Some people cannot just park their car due to this factory defect. . . . . Thanks. . . . Glenn.

2 Defogger problem of the 2002 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 02/01/2007

Heating system no longer defrosted the front windshield properly. From what I understand this was a common problem on Jeeps equipped with dual climate control. Blender doors in the heating/cooling system failed and as a result. Proper heat was not attainable to defrost front windshield. This was hazerdous, and could cause a crash if the driver's vision of the road bwas impaired.

3 Defogger problem of the 2002 Jeep Laredo

No heat or defroster on 2002 Jeep grand cherokee was told by dealer that the blend motor needed to be replaced at cost of more than $900. 00.

4 Defogger problem of the 2002 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 01/05/2007

1) we were going on a road trip to ne tennessee when the windshiled defrost failed. 2) there is no hot air coming out to properly defrost the windshield which affected our visibility in the mountains. 3) took it to the dealership to get an estimate and found out that it was going to cost ~$900. I opted not to get it done since it was so much. I was charged $110 for them to diagnose the problem.

5 Defogger problem of the 2001 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 01/04/2007

Heat is blowing uncontrollably out of all vents. Can not turn off. . . The "blend doors" are broken. This happens on all these Jeeps. You have to remove the entire dash to correct this issue. This really needs to be a recall item !!!!.

6 Defogger problem of the 2002 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 05/01/2006

I purchased a 2002 Jeep grand cherokee overland in November 2005 and by may 2006 the air conditioning & heat stopped working. During the winter months I was unable to drive the vehicle because of rapid fogging of windows. I recently took the vehicle to a Jeep dealer to have service done, and was informed that the blend doors needed to be replaced as well as the blower. This will cost approximately $1300. The consequences of this heating and ac failurewere mainly due to fogging of the windows. While driving during changing weather conditions. The windows will rapidly fog up and the defroster will not wor, k causing a danger to myself and those around me. As of now I have not repaired this problem due to the high cost.
